The BMW M 1000 R is the winner of the 2023 bikesales Bike of the Year award, proudly presented by Youi Insurance.
Slotting into BMW’s prestigious M range, the M 1000 R features a 999cc inline four-cylinder engine capable of 210hp, a lightweight and agile chassis, a full electronics suite, semi-active Marzocchi suspension, premium BMW brakes and ABS, and high-end styling and build quality.
After a week of thorough testing in Victoria’s High Country, our expert judges found the M 1000 R naked bike combined incredible performance with user-friendliness and accessibility, making it an obvious candidate for the Bike of the Year trophy.
It beat seven other finalists across a range of different genres, with the judge’s votes resulting in a unanimous win.

Guys, this video has been up for 2 days, over the weekend, and achieved only 12 likes. You really need to sit down and have a think about why. Personally I don’t want to see any half decent bike review type channel fail, especially one from here, down under. It is half decent, so onwards and upwards please guys. But soul searching, figuring out why I too have remained like button agnostic.

Nope seat is way to high especially at the back .. cant swing a leg over that .. ugly as sin and no fairing or screen . Manufacturers need to revisit the past .. take a look at the Honda Cbf 1000 2008 model mk1 !!!
I just checked that out, thanks. Been thinking about a 919 Hornet but that CBF1000 looks unreal for the second hand price.
A real hidden gem
Please stop saying Ak-ROP-a-vic and say Akra-PO-vic as it's spelled. Apart from that, I can't see riders choosing this as BOTY, probably because not enough could afford one. 200HP nakeds are a dying breed these days.
Hi @simpletonballsack, thanks for your feedback! The correct pronunciation is as per the video - it has been confirmed by Akrapovic staff. However, like the pronunciation of 'Porsche', we reckon just say it how it feels comfortable! As for the M 1000 R - we don't choose the winner based only on value for money. As far as innovation, technology, and performance go, the BMW was head and shoulders above the rest in the eyes of the judges. It is a great example of what other brands should aspire to. We agree that $35k 200hp nakeds are not everyone's cup of tea, but the innovation, craftsmanship, and safety tech of this bike can be applied to other genres and price points. That is why it is BOTY.
