One thing that surprises me is how willing Japanese people are to share the price of something (I'm just assuming this from your video). In my family, we don't ask about how much something costs or tell others how much we paid *unless* we're bragging about how cheap it was. The larger the sum of money involved, the less likely we are to share how much it cost. We were raised believing that to ask how much someone paid is rude. On the other hand, we might ask in an oblique way, for example, "That's a nice bag. It must have been expensive." If the person doesn't want to tell you, they'll say, "Yes, it was," or "It wasn't that bad," but not name a number.

At 1:42, it's just "cost" for both present and past tense in American and British English. "Costed" is used sometimes in Canadian and Australian English though.
No one says ‘costed’ in Canada. It would be regarded by any Canadian as a grammatical mistake. “It cost Tanaka a loonie yesterday, but today it costs a twoonie!”

English is pretty much my first language but I also know Burmese since I live in Myanmar. Its a blessing because Burmese has same exact grammar as Japanese. Huge respect to anyone learning Japanese whilst only having English or other similar languages in their brain because its so difficult and different to learn. Luckily knowing Burmese made Japanese so easy and intuitive in terms of grammar.

"The whiskey cost me 10,000 yen." (not costed) Basically the only appropriate use of the term 'costed' is in an accounting setting when you're discussing the total expenditures for a business, manufacturing process, etc., and it's always 'costed out' not just 'costed'. "After considering all the variables of materials, labor, equipment rentals, as well as allowances for errors and delays, we have costed out the price of production to be $xxx.xx per unit." I have a business degree and now work in a field where I cost things out plenty. It's valid, used frequently in that context, and printed in numerous textbooks.
This can be explained by regional English dialect differences. Both "cost" and "costed" are correct, but which one is used depends on the region. Though, I'm not sure what the two exact dialects are. Where I live, people use both and it largely depends on personal preference.
