勝手 has been an infamously tough one for me. Wanikani labels it "as one pleases" which with context now makes a bit of sense, but was always one I struggled to remember. Thanks for breaking it down for me.
I was thinking the same thing, in fact there are countless other words/phrases from Wanikani (and even textbooks, for that matter) that I "learned" but never truly understood the meaning of. Videos like this are extremely helpful.

Yeah. I think Duolingo is great but it's just one resource. I'm getting close to the end of the Japanese course. I think Japanese media of whatever kind is very helpful. Personally I like the videos of Japanese Vtubers doing Duolingo for English. It's the same lessons but in reverse. Pretty funny and I learned some Japanese. I learned temee from Suisei. She was seeing which pronouns it would accept.

The one used here is katsu (勝つ) "to win", they have a similar root and conjugate sometimes similarly (in the て form) This is not the case tho, since katte is 勝手 (かつ "to win" + て "hand" = かって)
This is really useful, thank you! When I lived in japan, I often heard 勝手にする and understood to mean "acting selfishly", but I didn't know you could use it for objects moving on their own, or in the 勝手が違う or 使い勝手 phrases

One thing I noticed in this one is that you're translating もういい as "I got enough!" or "It's enough.", but we don't really say that. I think "I've had enough!", "That's enough!", or just "Enough!" is more idiomatic. Your English translations are very good, but I just thought I'd offer a little native speaker tip. :)

By the way, I felt the translation to “comfortable” when describing using the websites seemed weird to me a native speaker. I also find my Japanese students often misuse this word. Perhaps you could do a short piece on expressing this concept in Japanese. English and Japanese don’t seem to match on this concept.
For me 、勝手(な)、is such an essential word, I わざわざ looked up the equivalent in Korean for when I'm talking to my Korean friends. There's very good word equivalence between Japanese and Korean, so that's better than trying to convey it in Spanish or English.

1:34 this reminds me of one time when I used the word エアコン in a Japanese exam and the teacher marked it as a mistake 😅 (I never actually bothered to look up which word she was expecting me to use, I had been studying Japanese on my own for years and I was just taking the exams at uni to get the credit so I didn't study all that hard... I passed the exams anyway so it was fine, I just find it a bit funny now. I guess I shouldn't have used the abbreviation?)

By the way, I felt the translation to “comfortable” when describing using the websites seemed weird to me a native speaker. I also find my Japanese students often misuse this word. Perhaps you could do a short piece on expressing this concept in Japanese. English and Japanese don’t seem to match on this concept.

For me 、勝手(な)、is such an essential word, I わざわざ looked up the equivalent in Korean for when I'm talking to my Korean friends. There's very good word equivalence between Japanese and Korean, so that's better than trying to convey it in Spanish or English.

Thanks again! I'm wondering if you can do a lesson on useful non-specific time phrases like "some time ago" or "a while back". There are times where I want to say "a long time ago", "a while ago", or "in the near future", but I often do not know the right phrases
1:34 this reminds me of one time when I used the word エアコン in a Japanese exam and the teacher marked it as a mistake 😅 (I never actually bothered to look up which word she was expecting me to use, I had been studying Japanese on my own for years and I was just taking the exams at uni to get the credit so I didn't study all that hard... I passed the exams anyway so it was fine, I just find it a bit funny now. I guess I shouldn't have used the abbreviation?)
