The uhaul car trailer weight is 2210 LBS, i rent those trailer all the time when I tow my car to the track, with a 19 Ram classic regular cab short box 4x4 Hemi 3.92 rear gear, it toes nice but not over working the truck but you definitely know your pulley some weight
Nice. Like you mentioned, if you lock out eighth gear, you have the same capability without the hunting. The only reason I would ever even think about 392s is if I constantly toad a lot of weight around town. The difference in mileage on the highway is pretty amazing. Like around 2mpg when not towing. The only thing you give up with 321 gears is your first and second gear ratio. And you saw how powerful the engine was in the low gears with the 321….
I pull a 3500 pound 22 ft bass boat. Alot. Ive gone on 2000 mile round trips. I had a 2013 and now have a 2023 ram. Both Hemi. New one gets great empty mileage. They both get about 13 at 70mph on trips. 3.21 in both
I couldn't agree more with everything you said. I have a couple towing vids with my 2017 Ram that has the 3.21 also and towed my 1320 over 10,000 miles last year and half the time I forgot I was towing anything, even got great mileage when I towed with the uhaul trailer. But I also have a 25' Travel Trailer and yeah, I absolutely wish I had the 3.92s when I tow that, plus the mileage gets chopped in half over what I get towing the 1320. With the RV though I use an Equalizer hitch which makes a world of difference. I don't need or use any kind of special hitch when towing the car.
How much your travel trailer weight im confuse dont know wich one to choose i dont do to much camping but dont want to regret it my setup is about 6000 pound its gonna be a daily wife driving ram 1500 3.21 vs 3.92 🤯🤯
Maybe with an 8 speed trans, the 3.21 is ok, but if you have a gm with a 4l60e with the 3.23, it's an absolute dog off the line, especially towing any decent weight. Ive got a 2012 Silverado with exactly the setup i spoke of and tow a 5k lbs trailer fairly often. I cant wait to regear to either 3.73 or 4.10.
I also believe when the trucks in tow haul mode, it knocks out the 8th gear to keep the truck a better power band for cruising, Mine did that to with the 3.92 rear gear
I’m literally about to send a build sheet to order. Same truck. What about towing a Trackhawk on a UHaul trailer? Close to the 3.21 limits. 3.92 in order?
@@bmasontv that’s the dilemma I’m in. Won’t be towing much. Just to track events. Otherwise it’ll be my daily to work. I so wish the 3.55 was an option.
@Dustin I don't think you will have any problem towing it with the 3.21 gears. I will admit that there are times where I wish I would have gotten 3.92 gears. Not necessarily for the towing but just in the driving experience. Thing is, I do a lot of highway driving so that's why the 3.55.
@@dustin9967 I appreciate that! I will have the content on the gear swap hopefully in about a week or so. Already have the parts. Looking forward to getting it knocked out.
@@bmasontv I’m faced with a situation where I have to tow a 9,000lb rig with my Ram 1500 4x4 5.7 Hemi and 3.21 gears. I’m considering renting a truck to do it.

Glad things are trucking along smoothly. Stormy looks sooo goood! Those wheels make all the difference too!
Thanks for the ride along👍

My 68 f100 has a 9in rear end, I don't know what the gear ratio is.(or how to find it) Great video per usual
The Identa Plate may have a rear axle code. Otherwise count driveshaft rotation when rotating the rear wheel 360°.
I have a 1500 5.7 3.21 and i bought a travel trailer with 7k gvwr! Not good! I have to buy a bigger truck. 😮
Do you know who has the ring and pinions gears 355 i have the 392 and yes i think that 355 would be better for fuel mileage?
Picking up a 2023 ram 1500 v6 , the ram site show one ram 6 with the 321 gear towing only 4200 tons , does that sound right ?
@@jeffanderson9329 it's a v6, so light duty Towing is really all that could be expected from it

What should it cost to put in a 3.55 axel from 3.2. Once the 3.2 comes out does it have any value?
About $900.00. Great door stop

I would probably spec the 3.92...if you plan on towing regularly. I'm actually regearing mine to 3.55.

What is the max weight you could tow with your Ram?
I wouldn't tow more than 7500 lbs. It is rated for quite a bit more, but I would not feel comfortable with much more than 7500 with a half ton truck.

@the_atomic_punk most hitches are rated up to 7500lbs. If the entire assembly exceeded that rating I would pick up a uhaul box truck for the move.
