Thank u God for everything we are and everything we will be
So nice to wake up on a Sunday morning, sit here on my deck enjoying a coffee in my beautiful garden on the Gold Coast Australia 🦘🐨🦜🇦🇺 & discover this beauty 🙏 especially needed during these times with such horrors happening in our poor broken world 🇵🇸💔, i feel grateful that in this moment I feel less sad 🙏❤️
Love this band. Mark Isham (trumpet) went on to be a successful film score composer. Peter Van Hooke is my favorite of all the Van drummers. RIP Pee Wee Ellis. Bassist Hayes, guitarist Platania and Allair on organ continued to play with Van (at times) for decades, into the 2020s.
What a fucking band
I'm here!
Its 4:26 am Christmas morning and I'm listening to this as loud as it goes sitting alone in my 08 Trailblazer at a truck stop in South Carolina - licking the wounds of addiction yet again at 50 years old, instead of with my incredible, amazing, gorgeous, very very special 13 and 14 year old daughters showering them with love and laughter and gifts. For the last few hours Ive been feeding my soul with 91 and 93 JGB and 89 Dead just to not jump off a cliff and then somehow this show just popped on so i let it play. Not gonna lie thought numerous times today about just bowing out and then Spirit came through Van out of nowhere seemingly just for me 44 years later from the Great Spirit Above, smacking me sober with "when your giving up hope and you're down in despair...and you turn to the One, and turn inside for a while, And you follow the road that'll get you back out And you follow the road that'll GET YOU BACK HOME, and ya follow the...road that'll GET YOU BACK HOME, when you're giving up, When you're giving up hope and you're down in despair when you're giving up and you keep walking on and you keep walking on and you keep walking on and you follow the road... Joyous Sound indeed...got to change it on the inside first to be Satisfied. All i know the Spirit don't ever die. Stoned me to my soul. So now its time to be quiet, roll up my sleeves, work at this like never before and let the chips fall where they may. Sorry for the novel but i cant afford therapy right now. Thanks for letting me share Good People
Stay strong man. Sending you love from Spain
@Matt-h2s7j be safe my friend and merry Christmas, you are not alone tonight, let the music guide your soul ♥️
Hang in there 🙏
Dude , just watch The Big Lebowski! Stay strong!!!
@11bumzh11 I do mind, the Dude minds. This will not stand ya know, this aggression will not stand man
My wife stumbled upon this last night. We watched the entire concert crying and moving. Best Christmas present of 2024.
I see the crying thing. Wow
Does not get any better. Always walked hos own path and we are Blessed for him sharing his soul and talent with us.
Very nice. Happy New Year. And if nothing else works, Van always does!
Saw Van at the Paramount Theatre in Paris, July 2001. Great venue, greater concert. Never forget it.
The band sound so freaking good.
25:57 thank you universe for bringing me this today 💖 This past year was so hard. Rest easy, Mom i live love you 1/29/55•1/29/24
Spirit don't ever die
❤
Easy to see and hear why Van decided to release this concert on DVD. This band is one of his finest, not a weak link anywhere. He seems relaxed and lets the band do their thing, fine solos everywhere, two drummers is a special touch also. Huge fan for years.
Pop
@@sevenunez791soulful Rock N Roll / Celtic influenced Folk. Sounds blues influenced to me.
@@sevenunez791nothing wrong with POP music.
Great concert
❤ LO MEJOR Y MAS GRANDE!!!
For me, there is one musician who plays outside any competition. Van Morrison. My musical hero since the 70s. I have all of his records and dozens of bootlegs.
This concert here, “Live in Montreaux 1980” is one of his best. I've seen him live more than a dozen times myself. And he is difficult. A “little pyctical asshole”, like so many geniuses. Absolute perfectionist, dictator on stage. And always on the road with the best musicians. Everyone wants to play with him. Every concert is extraordinary, but normally always exactly 90 minutes long. Perfectly played. And every now and then there's a great moment. Then the master is suddenly in another world. He forgets his entire, carefully prepared concept and simply begins to play - as if in a trance. And the musicians are always so good that they can realize his ingenious ideas. Then a jolt goes through the hall and the audience finds itself in another world. I was able to experience it twice. This concert, which I unfortunately wasn't able to experience and only knew as audio, is one of them. I hope it comes across in the same way. Open a glass of wine, smoke a joint, turn up the amplifier and enjoy. Have fun. 💖💕💞💓💝☯☮🎷🎶 Too late to stop now!!!!!
so true!
I just ran into another upload last night, and I can't stop playing repeatedly.

All his concerts are AMAZING from start to finish😢😢
@@agnieszka2313 That is correct. He's an incredibly good, exceptional musician with always great bands. I've never seen a bad concert either. But the standard is higher with Van Morrison. Always AMAZING, but sometimes, sometimes when the master is in a really good mood. The environment, the audience and everything else is right, then a miracle happens. Then the master crumples up his plan and throws it into the corner. And then he just plays freely and directly. His fellow musicians are fantastic at this. And then you float and never want to land again. 💖☯☮
You hit the nail on the head!! He is a very difficult individual to deal with....His music is not difficult to deal with!!
His response to people in general is to "Sit Down"..."Shut Up" and "Just Listen"!! Or maybe another take on things...
Just "Listen to the Lion"
@@floydmeyer9736 That´s right - "Listen to the Lion" Perfect!!
That's a first class band right there.
Good lord that intro to Wavelength is magical.
Van is a musical genius. Been listening to him since he was with Them in 1964. Been to 50 of his concerts. Appreciate all you Vanites.
This is Beautiful. Im so glad I lived during this time.
Take me back. Take me way way way back...when music like this used to be played.
Lord. He’s only 35 here. A baby!
One of the underappreciated talents of yesteryear..thx for posting it
I’m 78 have been listening to him since 1978 ❤ Thank you!
He looks so good here, and sounds even better. Thank you in 2025!
We're still on his wavelength
I have never had the privilege to see Van Morrison live, God willing one day I will. This concert was absolutely great, what a performance by Van and his band. What a collection of fantastic musicians.
What an effin band!!! What a group of amazing musicians backing one of the best ever. Good Lord doesnt get much better than this
Compliment of the season 🎄
What a band. VAN IS MY FAVORITE ARTIST. I emailed the late Pee Wee Ellis and he responded which blew me away and said Van was great to work with and they hung out quite often. RIP PEE WEE. What a gentleman
For “Paddy” rest in eternal peace my love .
50 plus years must qualify as genius.
Wow, unbelievable!!! This is what music sounds like!
Adjectives are insufficient
Probably Van's best band ever. Everybody in outstanding form, I believe Van's best concert recording ever.
Ellis was his arranger for years. RIP PeeWee
He finds THE BEST musicians to play with. Nothing compares....
Van at his finest-band vocals and songs-in recent years Van's albums have been frequently awful to poor but 70s to 90s he was easily the finest male artist- this is magical and special! My deep love for him will never die-- needs to release more!
Deep stuff love me some van Morrison just get lost in his music,
Troubadors is mind altering. Mark Isham opens with that theme, love the story and vocals, all the dynamic changes, Pee Wee on command going back through the break several times and each one eclipsing the time before all just so astonishing. Vans voice is so right on this entire show.
so much amazing pee wee, all so good... van is absolutely foundational to me...saw him most recently in 2017... broke my heart that he and clapton decided to be such self absorbed pathological assholes during covid that i decided neither would ever get another dime from me... but that can't take away from 50+ years what both had already done... extraordinary.
I would assume, if one is backing Van Morrison, one would have to have his s**t wired pretty damned tight. What an amazing concert! Thank you!
Saw him in concert early 90's one of the tightest bands ever, today's bands can't compete
I understand where you are coming from - I love Van and agree he is as top tier as top tier gets and this version of his band was TIIIIIGGGGHHHT, but I don't think you've heard a few of today's touring bands. If you haven't already, check out Tedeschi, Trucks Band, Widespread Panic, Bela Fleck, Allman Betts Band, Government Mule, Leftover Salmon, Billy Strings and many more - they're are all super tight and are carrying the torch high in their unique and creative ways. Merry Christmas!!
@Matt-h2s7j great bands all of them, but not necessarily today's bands
i was headed for this concert from Greece via Istanbul.... got there, after adventures of the road, and the festival featured Yahoudi menowin sp grrr I stuffed up the musical festival, it was classical not the jazz one ! Oh well, watching now 40+ years later & love Van just as much.
1977 , On a trip to Australia I came across Wild Night , Tupelo Honey , Cleaning Windows
and Gone Dead Train. I was convinced ---" He really got me " till today . Thanks Van for this beautifull Concert. 💯❣
The incredible Jef Labes on piano
The interplay of all the instruments is amazing. You can hear Van's voice simply as one instrument among the rest.
I have experienced Van live 3 times so far. There was some nice concert, but sometimes he just tears his concerts down. "Live in Montreux 1980" is the absolute highlight, Van in top form, great accompanying musicians, all focused to the point. Montreux concerts was produced on video at 1974, 1980 and 1990, however Van visited the Jazzfestival 21 times. All videos are nice, but this one is on the Top.
I have been listening to Tupelo Honey for well over a year and didn't realize it was from this concert. Somehow somewhere the link popped up today. Wow what an incredible showman that Morrison is.
This is probably his best band, certainly his best era of music making with Mark Isham and Pee Wee Ellis.
The sound quality is amazing

Van is one hell of a task master so if you screw up once you wont be playing with him again . He himself plays 5 instruments , the piano , the sax , the harmonica , the guitar and the bass guitar so he knows . A genious simple as that . Brilliant song writer some of the greatest songs .He has soul and the blues in so many of his songs .Played with Muddy Waters way back when that says it all .
Thank you Van. Fran. And. Family. Hall. Van. Morrison. Canada 🇨🇦
Troubadours is ungodly good. The interplay of Ellis and Isham never ceases to give me chills. I have had this DVD for many years and still watch it regularly. 19:10
They all look like they are having a good time.
Great upload. Much appreciated. Especially not having commercials throughout. Could make dinner while listening with no interruptions. 👍
I have this on DVD. Extremely good music and singing.
he's the man, and he's been consistant

What a gem. Why have I not seen this before? Thanks for uploading.
I can't but play my part on my table too. Every one of these players pulls my heartstrings. And then, then comes Van. Crazy!!
Same here. ❤
Tremendous mixing
Throughly enjoyed listening. He has always had something special.❤
Awesome Song

Damn, this hits the spot.

By far the best audio/picture I've seen of this performance from 10 July 1980 at Montreux, very high quality. Thanks.
Only a few of my favourite songs here, but a very fine concert nevertheless - very much thanks to a team of great musicians!

Yes
Musicians and bands often get more adulation than they deserve here on utube. This might not be the best gig I've ever seen but it's certainly in the running.
Grooovy!
Saw him at Tanglewood a couple years ago! BUCKETLIST
They only sound as good as the great musicians they can afford to hire
Moondance starts at 57.50. It's a crackin' version! You're welcome.
Nice mood lighting. I'm sure Van and the band appreciated working under French fry lights.
GOAT ❤️🎶💚
Compliment of the season 🎄
Absolutely 👍 ❤💚🥰
They don’t call him Van the Man for nothing
