"Breakfast in America" is a phenomenal LP and this song was new and fresh. Man I love this group!! ❤👍🏽
still fresh!@
For real, an all-timer.
i remember when i first heard this as a kid in the early 90's growing up listening to so much with my dad and going to see bqands like jethro tull, kiss, zz top, quiet riot , and soo many others. but then my dad got breakfast in america and was like this albums bitchin lolol. well turns out this album on cassette along with a couple other albums my dad had on cassette could always be found on my cheap litttle boombox
crime of the century is a really great album too
One of the best overall albums ever
Anything from the Breakfast in America album. Take the Long Way Home, would be my first suggestion.
Child of Vision as well
No doubt. Don't forget "School ". That piano going off sticks with me
Supertramp and Electric Light Orchestra are STAPLES of the 70s. Keep goin!
They’re such great musicians. All Supertramp songs are fantastic. “ Brakfast in America” or “dreamer” would be my choice for the next song.
Now you must do the studio versions of "School", "Bloody Well Right" and "Goodbye Stranger"! You WON'T regret it!
You can't forget Hide In Your Shell
Absolutely. School..... studio
"School" is a complex, cynical take on society's norms, while "Give a Little Bit" is a pure, fresh benediction. Such a multi-faceted band!
Well there are three other songs of theirs that I particularly like:
Give A Little Bit
Dreamer
Breakfast In America
Take a look at my girlfriend...she's the only one I got....
My favourite of Supertramp is "Fools Ouverture". Epic.
SuperTramp is a hell of a band. After I told my mom I loved their music she told me it was my dad's favorite band (Never met the guy). That stung a bit, but still. I enjoy the music.
Supertramp was my favorite band when I was in high school, and it was my daughter's favorite band when she was in high school. I like to think I raised her right.
There are generally two schools of thought on which of their albums is "best".
(1) Breakfast in America
(2) Crime of the Century
I personally love both albums, but I believe that I favor, minutely of course, Breakfast in America. Simply because that was how I was introduced to the world of Supertramp. I'm so very glad that you liked them as well.
I love Supertramp! My personal favorite song from them is Goodbye Stranger. It is also off of the album Breakfast in America, which is one of my favorite albums of all time. Seriously, any song off that album would be a great pick.
Wholeheartedly agree.
Mannnnnnn, this is such a great band and this song is outstanding. I particularly like the way the sax is used and the way it just blasts in to lift you up. One of my favorite groups.
I love this song. The older I get the more I'm confronted by the fact that Supertramp had the time and the money and whatever else to lay this down in such a cool way. It's....relatable?
Supertramp "Take the Long Way Home", "Breakfast in America", and "Goodbye Stranger", all good songs from the same album. They have a lot of very cynical/meaningful songs.
Agree with everyone recommending the Breakfast in America album. This song is one case where the studio version may have more to offer. The sax on the studio version, for instance, sounds a little more passionate, a little less studied.
yeah, i love the sax on the studio version, definitely a bit more passionate
Nice! Great live performance too. Supertramp dropped that classic when I was in eight grade. I remember the social studies teacher would sometimes let us listen to pop songs in class on Fridays and then discuss the lyrics with us afterward. This was one of the songs we reacted to. Love that sax solo! When you're ready for more from Supertramp, check out "Bloody Well Right" and "School" along with the other tracks from Breakfast in America -- "Take a look at my girlfriend, she's the only one I've got..."
This is the very first album that I purchased with my own money. Excellent album that always reminds me of how awesome my father was for opening my mind to all music. You Sir keep that alive for me me , thank you !
I absolutely love Supertramp. One of my favorites and some of their deep cuts are some of my absolute favorite music.
Cannonball
Child of Vision
Asylum
A soapbox opera
The lead singer toured solo a couple years ago and it was one of the best shows I’ve seen in a while.
Supertramp is one of the greatest bands ever. There music is utterly unique and brilliant.
This album came out my senior year of high school and it totally spoke to my angsty-teen-soul !!!!
Try THE LONG WAY HOME! 🙂
For me this song is the internal struggle and external pressure I felt all the way until my 40s, about what being a grown up woman means. I don't believe I have to be cynical or that I had to lose my joy of life. I love this song from the very 1st time I heard it.
Goodbye Stranger is an absolute amazing production.
supertramp is phenomenal. timeless stuff.
Supertramp's 'Hide in Your Shell' is my recommendation! Great band, I like the studio version of this song best
It's my favourite as well. I remember lying on the floor and just letting the music just wash over me. There is also one part in the music, a high pitched wavering sound. Years ago I saw someone play a musical saw on tv. It sounded just like that
@@badplay156 yeah the chorus is so emotional, using a musical saw, and that sweet saxophone riff!
And I really identify with the lyrics!
I think we would all be a little better off if we could hold on to a piece of the child within.
I think many in the younger generations are holding on way to long to their childhood. I would like to see them grow up.
SUPERTRAMP - GOODBYE STRANGER
Don't know how you've never heard Supertramp. I hope you do more of their music soon.
Very easy for people not to know bands they didn't grow up around. I bet you don't know very many flamenco artists
Great group, but there are people out there who've never heard of the Rolling Stones!..I've been running into that lately..Or who have heard of the Beatles, but aren't familiar with even one song of theirs!..And these are people in their 30's!..So, Yeah, there are a ton of people who've never heard of Supertramp.
Ohh goodness your first Supertramp song !!!! yes!!!! wonderful rabbit hole.. you gotta check out the vinyl version you are missin so much....
Supertramp - take the long way home
This is a great paired-down live production. The album version is much more highly-produced, which stood out at the time. Compared to film, the production on this was the equivalent of Apocalypse Now. The record company basically gave them a blank check and they ran with it.
I love Supertramp. Their music is intelligent, well spoken, amazing and almost whimsical at times..
I just love your reactions - very thoughtful, intellectual and heartfelt at the some time with a real appreciation for music and comedy.
I seen supertramp 35 years ago in the royal Albert hall London. They were amazing!! I still love listening to them still.
Supertramp-Give A Little Bit
Crime of the Century is my favorite album. But they haves a lot of great songs, School, Good-bye Stranger, Bloody Well Right, Take the Long Way Home, and many more. I'd love to hear more Supertramp on your channel.
Every time I hear supertramp all I can think of is my dad singing it in the car and then letting out a big sigh and saying "I used to get so high listening to this"
lol
They had a string of about 5 albums that were quite excellent. This was the peak of that period
Breakfast in America is one of my favorite album's of all time. So many great songs from that album to choose from. I'd go with Goodbye Stranger.
I was 12 when The Logical Song was released. I liked it. At age 54? Omg, I feel it in my bones.
Same here.
Took me a bit longer cause I got distracted by,
“You show us everything you've got
You keep on dancin' and the room gets hot
You drive us wild, we'll drive you crazy
You say you wanna go for a spin
The party's just begun, we'll let you in
You drive us wild, we'll drive you crazy
You keep on shoutin', you keep on shoutin'
I wanna rock and roll all night and party every day”
But I got there
Have a few years on you but feel the same way.
The whole album Crisis What Crisis is absolutely amazing. Al time fav bands underrated. Wish you would do more of their music.
I was fortunate to have that one high school teacher; the one that made you call him Joe and sat on his desk while we talked about feelings. He would play this song every day to remind us to not be cynical, not be a vegetable.
Thirty years later Joe is long gone, but this song is still in heavy playlist rotation - and I am still trying not to be a cynical vegetable.
Those days and teachers are gone 😓. Sadly too many ppl and groups want you to change to their liking and not be individuals 🤦
Lol!
LEGENDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Supertramp rules ! "Give a little bit" is great, and "goodbye Stranger"
The record "SuperTramp Live in Paris" is a Must-Have-Record in every collection!
What memories this brings back! No one hit wonder.
Fantastic Song.
...just after 5 seconds you got a little smile on your lips... - and that's what the song is! Innersmiled from Germany - best regards to you...
Logical song is not about growing up and becoming all those things first listed: dependable, logical, cynical. But about the soul-crushing experience of children in the boarding school system in the UK after WWII and the damage done to those children by teachers suffering from shell shock, PTSD and their own upbringing in the same system.
Saw the thumbnail and knew MrLboyd would be into this. A generally upbeat message and melody with something the think about. The whole album 'Breakfast In America' is worth a listen. It creates a tapestry or patchwork...
Still own the 45 record for this piece. Love their musical
Roger Hodgson - lead singer and writer of most of the SuperTramp songs - is a true musical genius. He plays keyboard, piano, and guitar. He did solo concerts 25-30 years after the release of this song, and he sounded just as great in those performances!
Ah Super Tramp. I had forgotten how good they are. Thank you.❤
Yes its all about the concept of growing up, well put.
LOVE Supertramp!!! And Styx-Paradise Theater!!!
Supertramp belongs to the classics from the seventies and eighties by now! 🇱🇺❤🎸🎵👌🏼
I JUST discovered your channel...no lie. This is the second video, i havent even watched it yet....And while I was watching your reaction to WAR PIGS...the very first video Ive ever seen from you I thought to myself "I bet he'd like The Logical Song....and here it is! Missed it by 3 days...😂🤣😅
I went to high school with a brother named David Quick who was OBSESSED with Supertramp. I've often wondered what happened to him.
This album was a big deal when it first came out. It was actually the party favor we gave at my Bar Mitzvah lol. I've always had a soft spot for it.
Amazing band, thank you for sharing your reaction with us! One that you might take a look at is their song "Give a Little Bit" contrasted with The Goo Goo Dolls (in Buffalo, NY) cover of it. I think Give a Little Bit is my favorite song that SuperTramp produced.
Great song. One of my favorite bands growing up.
At any given moment the Logical Song is stuck in my head 💃
This is my childhood, now I like metal. thanks for the time machine
Love this song. Ty for the reaction!
One word to describe this song: Timeless
One of the greatest bands ever!
Scooters version was what lead me back in time to this.❤
I’m so used to Scooter’s version I forgot about this original lol
Great song from 1979. The whole album Breakfast in America is great
Thanks pops for putting me on this when i was 7, i still can see that Breakfast in América vinyl spinning..
great reaction, supertramp had a unique sound, you knew it was them within seconds any of there songs started,i got to see them live, just a great experience
In my teenage years in the1970s/1980s we all knew each and every song of groups like Suoertramp, Pink Floyd (dark side of the moon), Fleetwood Mac (Rumours), Talking Heads, Bob Marley and the Wailers. Amongst others, of course.
Fool's Overture and Even in the Quietest Moments are master pieces!!
"Rudy" by them. It's like a movie (The whole "Crime Of The Century" album is great, musically and content-wise)
A song about innocence lost... It's a brilliant song in a brilliant album.
Thanks for this, I've been a fan of Supertramp since the beginning.
One of the greatest and most unique bands ever.
Love what you're putting down brother.
My suggestions would be 'Take The Long Way Home' and 'Give A Little Bit'. "The Long Way Home' is, with The Logical Song, THE signature songs by singer/songwriter Roger Hodgson, the vocalist and pianist in this video. I guarantee, without hesitation, you will truly enjoy this song! Blessings to you! Love the channel!!
The Logical Song is a genius piece of music and lyrically is just soooo rich...I had forgotten about this one...thanks for sharing !!
More great Super Tramp to be had!
Breakfast in America was a (deservedly) gigantic album. There was a period of months where they were inescapable and it seemed like every station was playing one of the singles.
If you're interested in similarly themed material, check out "Child of Vision" from the same album. There are wonderful live versions from both Roger Hodgson (solo) and Supertramp.
Another great song about having to grow up, from that era, is Baker Street by Gerry Rafferty.
Amazing sax!!!
Hey bro I love ur reactions and how diverse the content is - I think you’d love Firestarter by The Prodigy :))
The Professor of Rock has a nice video discussing the background of this song. The singer, if I remember correctly, was sent away to a boarding school at the age of 9, removed from his childhood and his loving family. He did not "return home" until he was 19... This song is a person trying make sense of why they were not wanted at such a young age.
I love the range of music that you do Your reactions to great job keep up the good work
another one of my favorite songs on your channel
"Give a Little Bit" & "Take the Long Way Home" are awesome songs! :)
Love supertramp!
Wow! 1st one here! Holy Cow! Lol!
Supertramp is amazing! And so is this song! And I love all the Live performances my friend!
Wonderful reaction as always!
Can you plz react to
Alter Bridge
"Blackbird" Live in Amsterdam 2008
Thank you very much!
Til the next 1☮
💥💯🖤🎶🤘
Nobody sounds like Supertramp. They are so bluesy and jazzy and funky. They have two great lead singers. Roger Hodgson sang lead on this song. Rick Davies is great on a number of other songs. Every studio album before 1983 was amazing! I'm a big fan, so I also loved Roger's solo album "Brother Where You Bound" from 1985.
You've gotta check out Here Come The Mummies. They're something else !!
School and Goodbye Stranger
First time in years I hear this song - still know all the words. "Breakfast in America" is such a great album, I heard it again and again.
Good Bye Stranger should be the next SuperTramp sing!!
Lol I heard this song coming home today on my way home from work yesterday!!!
Cheers
We all need more Saxophone in our lives.
Wow this song was on the radio all of the time. Still love it!
That's the great Roger Hodgson on vocals. If this came out today it would probably go over people's heads, but that instrumental sounds dope
i born i in late 80´s but this is the song of my life.
Always start with the studio versions of this album.
The logical song is a great song. Yes the message is solid. Peace y’all.
