It just demonstrates that kids don’t have a prejudice against gays, hatred of others is something that is taught. It also demonstrates that teaching kids about different families (a mom and a dad, two moms, two dads, single mom, single dad) will not cause them to be anymore than a kid.
@@heatherkaye8653 They are, indeed, good friends though. They have just clicked from the beginning...Stephen's said as much...and they just understand each other's humor. It's always a really great chat. If I see that Tig will be a guest, I never miss the show. Or, the video on RUclips.
Tig is absolutely one of my favorite comedians of all time. She is brash, bold, courageous, smart, kind, and absolutely inoffensive. She is 100% the real deal.
I love your son's perspective. It is a testament to your parenting. Love is love. Family comes in different shapes and sizes. To him, it just is. And it is beautiful.
I understand the story about her son not knowing that his moms were gay. When I was growing up I heard all the schoolyard slurs, but never really understood them. Even when I was 12 and my older brother said he was gay l didn’t understand. He explained that he loved men. I understood what love was, but the sexual aspect of love wasn’t yet on my radar. So, yeah, an eight year old being a bit confused? I understand that. ❤
I hope Tig compares this interview to ANY interview from 5 years ago or longer. She smiled, and was just joyful through the entire interview. It's so great to see Tig so utterly happy. She deserves it.
This is vaguely reminiscent of it suddenly dawning on my French daughter when she was about 11 years old that I have an English accent when I speak French. The look on her face when she realized it was something that will remain with me for the rest of my life. I think our kids just think of us as “their beloved people” and pay zero attention to labels until society conditions them to see differently.
I get in trouble all the time at work by different people cause I apparently walk too quietly and startle them. I do have quiet footsteps, but I am fat and I swear you can hear my thighs rub together when I walk. 😅 so I just tell them it's not that I'm too quiet, it's that they need their hearing checked. 😂
My hope is in the future all kids don't know what being gay is, because thats beautiful her son just saw 2 loving parents regardless of anything else society has tried to put out there. I hope some of my LBGTQ friends have a moment like this, it's really precious and I can see her glowing while talking about how proud she is about her son. Love Tig, I wish her and her family nothing but the best.
I was 10 when it dawned on me that my dad was gay. My parents split when i was like 2 I had plenty of time to figure it out. Lmao. He passed a few years ago. I loved him very much. Still do.
I love Tig Notaro! I love that she and her wife have made her boys' lives so normal that they didn't even know they were gay. Her wife getting startled is me with my spouse.
There's no prejudice in a family of no prejudice. They didn't think you were "what? the butler"?, hahaha. They just think you are ...Mom. And obviously a great one. Happy pride! To all y'all. LOVES! Top fave (and yes, sexy) comedian :-)
Tig Notaro also has that light you can read by. When she smiles, it’s just a thing of beauty ~ like her very essence radiates out. A great combo with that wit and intelligence!
At some point, we all as parents have to explain how it works to them, it helps them understand how love for one another works whether is gay or straight or any denomination of couple of parents ....and bees and honey or something etc etc .😅
What a heartwarming, gorgeously funny exchange between two very lovely people who have the utmost respect for one another. I could watch this 100 times.
I like that she is quiet when she walks. This speaks to many levels of consideration. And to change something like the way you enter or “appear” or pre appear makes me think that she is a great person who loves her spouse very very much. I’m a silent walker and have had the same sitch. Then flip it. It doesn’t go over quite as smooth whenever I tell my wife she is too loud. The compromise seems to be a little one way. Being frightened by a silent appearance and frightened by non stop noise is not a topic of discussion at our house. Or my house would be out back.
I love the fact that the kids did not know their parents were 'gay' ... they simply knew that they were loved and a family. THAT is what is is ALL about! 'Love IS Love'!!! ❤🧡💛💚💙💜
I agree. I added "Handsome" to my podcast rotation a month or two ago after all three co-hosts were guest contestants on "After Midnight With Taylor Tomlinson." It's a great podcast.
This is my new favourite interview ever! I loved this, everything about it! Well, except for how short it was. I could have watched an entire episode of Stephen and Tig chatting away in their comfortable but hilarious chemistry. They come across as great friends who both very much respect each other. Tig is just so naturally funny. I love her. Love them both.
I enjoy Tig Notaro mostly when shes acting, where her quirky personality shines through. She reminds me of Alice from the Brady Bunch, funny and quirky in her own way, enjoyable to watch and very likable/relatable.
I have to say, I love a bit of Tig. I only came across her through her role in Star Trek Discovery, but then went back and watched some of her comedy acts and other performances and she is just wonderful.
Love when Tig is on ... And not only was she an action hero in a movie, she is also the chief engineer of Discovery in Star Trek ... and she is kick-ass and awesome in that role too
Reminds me of my son, when he was about five. We went to visit my Dad and his hubby, we lived across the country, so we didn’t see my family often. We were sitting at the table, and asked “So who IS Granddad Jeffrey?” “That’s Grandad’s husband.” “WHAT!?! They’re married!?!”. Silence falls across the table, I say “Yeah, they’re married. I was at their wedding.” My son’s response, “Grandad isn’t married to Grandma!?!”. 😂😂
I grew up with half cousins and even though I knew I had an extra set of grandparents and a different last name. It took me an embarrassingly long time to realize we were half cousins and that was the case for a few of us. Her story reminded me how adorably oblivious kids are about their family. That family is family no matter how it originated or the circumstances of how we got there.
I never heard of Tig. Yes, I live under a rock. When Stephen Colbert introduces me to someone I trust their value, and I’m still right. What a delight!
