Cliff, something you should know about Tool, it's better to first do an audio version reaction, tool video often is a different metaphor than what you get from the lyrics.. Stinkfist is definitely a banger, do the audio version

Song about a relationship that fell apart. I always picture the end with a guy just sitting in a corner, rocking back and forth, repeating "I know the pieces fit", driven mad by his inability to fix it.

I love watching people react to Tool's videos for the first time. 46&2 is a great song. Actually, if you start from Tool's first album and just start reacting, you won't be disappointed. LIke what was said in other comments, avoid the video version, it's distracting if you are trying to catch the song :)

Hey brother, I have shown many people Tool because I truly believe that, because of how dynamic and skilled they are, there is something for everyone in Tool. A couple of tips: Don't first react with the videos, they are EXTREMELY distracting as you probably noticed haha. Second, feel free to have the lyrics open to reference. They mix the vocals very low at the same level as the instruments so it can be super difficult to hear what is being said on first listen.
Been watching for a couple years now and I super confident that you will have a strong appreciation for the way they write their lyrics and tell stories.

  • @iancollins65

Tool is known for their odd time signatures and switching them up many times in the same song. They are very technical, but still play with incredible feeling. 4 of the best musicians on the planet. 🌍
This song is about communication and what the lack of it does to erode relationships. And also about trying to piece things back together when it’s all fallen apart. Maybe the deeper meaning is rebirth.

  • @NochSonKerl

I really liked the video, but yeah, watching a Tool music video for the first listen can be really distracting and often I find it hard to see a connection between meaning of the lyrics and the video. Therefore I would advise you to go with just the audio or a lyric video, when reacting to Tool for the first time. For example you didn't comment on my favourite line of the song, because you were focused on the video, it's the following:
"Cold silence has a tendency to atrophy any sense of compassion"
Just pure poetry, I get goose bumps every time.

    • @shanemason4031
      @shanemason4031 7 месяцев назад

Yeah that is my favorite lyric from that song too, it's actually pretty amazing that it is the summary of the whole song in general, and very elegant and poetically written

The song "46 and 2" is an amazing song with a sick percussion line. The song is a mind bender, delving into some Carl Jung philosophy and human evolution.

Wicked reaction brotha! Try Ænima, Eulogy, and Pneuma (Danny Cam). As stated in a lot of comments, watching Tool videos, should be done after you listen to the track first. They suck
you in visually on top of pollyrythemic music. It just happens to be a completely different direction than the music is going. The brain can't choose what to focus on more. It's like trying to read a book and sing any song at the same time. Can't be done. Have fun!!!

This is my ALL TIME FAVORITE BAND AND THE BEST BAND I'VE SEEN LIVE! I've seen them 6 times starting in 1997! They are unbelievable. I've also seen the lead singer's (Reverend Maynard James Keenan) other 2 bands live but Tool is the BEST! The other 2 bands are Pucsifer and A Perfect Circle.
My favorite Tool songs are Lateralus, 46 & 2, Sober, The Pot, Stinkfist, Pneuma, Aenema, Right in Two, Eulogy, Prison Sex, Opiate and strangely enough the hidden track Didgustipated! But really any Tool song is amazing! Not sure if you have done Laterelus but that song is based on the Fibonacci Sequence. They are am amazingly talented and Keenan is a very intelligent and creative writer. He also owns a vineyard and sells his own brand of wine.

Every Tool song is a banger. Not one bad one in the bunch. I think that reacting to the video is hard because their videos aren’t always easy to understand. Definitely listen to the lyrics though. Tool is magic.
Story on the videos: Adam Jones the guitarist used to work in the movie industry and is behind much of the images you see in the video. They are definitely twisted.

The song was released in 2001. The reason the videos all say 4 years ago, is because Tool resisted putting their music on Social Media for many years. Likely due to the lack of control and inaccurate ability to pay correctly for their art. They definitely are about the money, but many artists resisted for long time. They released their entire catalog all at once to all streaming platforms.

    Cliff: WTF?! 😂
Dude!! Tool is a legendary band, but I recommend listening to the audio the first time without the video. Their art in the videoes can be a bit distracting, especially for those not used to the artistic scope of their videos. Schism came out in 2001 I believe. I highly recommend going back to some of their earlier stuff like Sober, Prison Sex and then say Aenima, Stinkfist. Everything they do is gold.
    Much ❤

Absolutely more tool! That said, aside from the drum cam video of Pneuma, don't watch the videos it'll distract you. Reading the lyrics before you listen can be good but you could just go by feel. Maynard treats his voice as 1 more instrument in the composition so it's hard to hear him sometimes. Recommendations, all of them but maybe start with The Grudge, just because I love seeing new listeners minds blown by 2 particularl parts of the song. 1 vocal and one drumming. Welcome to the show, spiral out. We are all here for it and your views will reflect.

Tool videos are very...different. They often have nothing to do with the song and are about different subjects than the song. The only Tool video I can think of that the video has a similar subject matter to the song is Sober.
I've listened to Tool since 1996 and I love their music. Their videos have always been odd and out there and very artsy.

In general for tool videos it's best to watch a lyric video first before the animations so you don't get distracted by them. The music and words are waaaay more important than the animations. Once you've absorbed the content, then go enjoy dessert.

Whether you watch the music video or the audio first, likely you won't get the entire meaning for a song On the very first listen. And that is fine! Just listen to the music. If you rely on focus solely on lyrics then you'll miss everything else this band is presenting to you. Just ride the spiral till the end.

I agree, I've been listening to them since the 90's and still to this day pick up on new shit. A true artist will evoke many different interpretations of their art regardless if that's what their intention behind it was. It's kinda mind bottling.. 😂

@@2TRUTH4SAUCE2 definitely agreed. Ive been listening to them since '99 and was born in 93. To this day, I am still unlocking things in their music. The lyrics are vague but yet you can find hidden meaning as well as your own meaning within them. I think each album is an evolution of humanity. Might be why one can notice each album Evolving. You know what I mean? Hope that made sense
