Two legal battles then began that interfered with the band's working on another release. Volcano Entertainment-the successor of Tool's by-then defunct label Zoo Entertainment-alleged contract violations by Tool and filed a lawsuit. According to Volcano, Tool had violated their contract when the band looked at offers from other record labels. After Tool filed a counter-suit stating that Volcano had failed to use a renewal option in their contract, the parties settled out of court. In December 1998 Tool agreed to a new contract, a three-record joint venture deal. Then in 2000, the band dismissed their long-time manager Ted Gardner, who then sued the band over his commission. During this time, Keenan joined the band A Perfect Circle, which was founded by long-time Tool guitar tech Billy Howerdel, while Jones joined The Melvins' Buzz Osborne and Carey drummed with Dead Kennedys' Jello Biafra on side projects. Lateralus (2001-2005) was their next album released which contains "Ticks and Leeches". Napster was giving Tool's music away for free pissing the band off to which the label seemed not interested in protecting the band. Leading to longer songs that were not radio friendly.
The record company wanted Tool to record a hard angry song like they did on Undertow. The ticks and leeches are the record execs. By this time, Tool started to evolve as a band. They were getting older with more substance to their writing but record companies want the $$$.
This is a myth. Tool had a record deal that gave them 100% artistic control of their music. Plus, most of the album was already complete before the label had even heard the song
Myth or not, it tracks, makes sense, and based on Hooker with a Penis, is not beyond the realm of possibility. They could have just felt that way about their record deal in general. Much like Weird Al having a long ass record contract and needing to produce to make the label happy. Meh.
I saw Tool for the 3rd time in 2020 and they are still as amazing as ever. This time I was able to see them with my daughter. I was about her age the first time I saw them, this time the crowd was full of GenX parents with their teenage/20-something kids, the vibe was so cool.
This is so great!! Happy to see another TOOL reaction! Ticks and Leeches is another favorite of mine bc of the fact that even as we try and evolve the typecasters want to throw us back into a bucket. Although none of us ever believed TOOL was in any bucket. They just have no idea what to do with them. But there is no denying them!! Spiral out 👁️🌀 👁️
It's about the record industry sucking the life out of the art and the artists. The reason for the long, slow section in the middle was to make it purposefully non-radio friendly. The radio execs wanted a heavy and fast song for radio, so TOOL gave them one... sort of, but not really.
I mean you say that but look how long it takes them to give us a new album. It takes concerted effort to do what they do. Its not some magical skill they just fart into the aether. They work. They work HARD.
Man your Tool reactions are really cool to watch. I'd love to see you listen to some of the less angry/more introspective songs by them like Lateralus or 64&2. But I know for sure you'd enjoy The Grudge.
What you said in evaluation plus they made and delivered that radio hit. With a good ol’ fashioned timely radio edit of the albums version’s snail sped breakdown within the middle section. Just cut it out and ride right into transitioning to the album version audience, much anticipated climax and conclusion for fans of Tool and the radio, of coarse. Impatient radio listeners won’t even know it wasn’t a 3:30 sec song which means intros got to go to. Still need to find three minutes to cut to keep radio crowd engaged and interested in it though. I’m sure the rec execs would be all over that. I think they should release this to the radio in 2024, almost 23 years after the album was released. But only the first verse as the songs entirety. I just hope people can be patient enough for a 30 sec rock hit this day and age. Everybody wins and those who suck, go on sucking and don’t feel slighted at all about this. It could change the coarse of history, depending upon who’s got the Rex execs balls on their office desk in a jar.
glad you had some live chatters to help you out. Nearly as good as having the lyrics up when there's someone who knows what's up in the chat. hahaha. cheers.
I bet they do it again eventually. They're doing The Grudge and Rosetta Stoned on this current tour which are challenging vocally + megaphone usage. 🤷🏼♂️ Fingers crossed anyway 🤞
LMAO. Yes he means all of that. But no. He doesn't. Welcome to the spiral friend. Enjoy the ride. TooL has always had one stance. "Think for Yourself". While things can be taken at face value in almost all cases, it's not, and if you think about it a little more than that you see how deep the rabbit hole goes.
Holy shizz!!! Cliff reaction to TOOL. I never thought I would see the day ! Thank you brother Please do more good sir! Heck I wouldn’t complain if you did the whole discography 😂. Spiral 🌀 out bubs. I know you don’t need the views - however you will gain an insane fan base lol. This man asked “ did he just say choke on my D?” 😂😂😂. Yo you are cracking me up me with this shizz. Spit out my drink. “Just thinking about the guy listening to this “ part taking it out on his GF 🤣 bro I’m f’n dying over here. That middle part is were have a nice little vice to. 😊
Long time subscriber and supporter of your channel.. glad you keeping it up and growing. I have to make a suggestion. You HAVE to check out Norman Pain from Sindhu World!!! He's the crazy 1 from Northern Boys. He just came out with new song few days ago and I was shocked how good it was. His best so far. A must to check out. Thought of your reaction when I heard it. Check it out.
Thanks for the music volume change around the 6 min mark but your mic is still so loud it's ear piercing if we don't turn it down on our end...Us Tool fans like these songs LOUD so help a brother out here...LOL
Great song but it really doesn’t really fit the theme of the album in my opinion. Supposedly Danny played the drums in one shot on a bet while the rest of the band tried making him laugh.
Exactly. It's drawn out because of the decade long legal battle they were put through. It's drawn out so that it definitely wouldn't end up on the radio
It says blood sucking parasite over and over again. You’re overthinking it. Nobody was interested in doubles when writing rock and roll. (Yeah they show up from time to time but they’re not central to writing styles)
@@soude85 no. It’s just that everyone that comes from a rap background tries to turn things into what they aren’t in a lot of cases. Did you see the part where I said that doesn’t mean it never happens? As far as being disrespectful, that’s just gay. Stop being gay. I’m willing to bet I listen to far heavier music than you do.

The day this album dropped my local radio station played this front to back twice
Back in the day they had balls❤
The record company wanted Tool to record a hard angry song like they did on Undertow. The ticks and leeches are the record execs. By this time, Tool started to evolve as a band. They were getting older with more substance to their writing but record companies want the $$$.
This is correct.

🤘🌀🤘”Radio Friendly” the Tool version 😂.
The drumming is ridiculous on this one. More than usual.
Not only ridiculous, but he laid this track down in one take 🐙🤘🏻🌀
Woah walk in to cliff reaction to Tool thats awesome.
Legendary, IS Tool, been "subscribed" since 93 lol my band❤
I saw Tool for the 3rd time in 2020 and they are still as amazing as ever. This time I was able to see them with my daughter. I was about her age the first time I saw them, this time the crowd was full of GenX parents with their teenage/20-something kids, the vibe was so cool.

How brand new to this earth do you have to be to ask for a “radio single” from freaking Tool.
The interlude in the middle of the song was to make it too long for radio play. Just to piss off the record company. Savage!
It's about the record industry sucking the life out of the art and the artists. The reason for the long, slow section in the middle was to make it purposefully non-radio friendly. The radio execs wanted a heavy and fast song for radio, so TOOL gave them one... sort of, but not really.
This 100 percent the reason for this song.
Cliff making me lmao. He's saying this a little extra but we get it 😂
Danny recorded this is one take, which is wild!
I’m ALWAYS HERE FOR TOOL!!!!
#spiralout 🌀
keep going! ❤❤
this is a fuck you to the industry.
Danny's the GOAT
My absolute favorite Tool song! Sticking it to the man!
CLIFF: You can't just conjure up a hit, it does not work that way
TOOL: HoLd My MuShRoOmS
I mean you say that but look how long it takes them to give us a new album. It takes concerted effort to do what they do. Its not some magical skill they just fart into the aether. They work. They work HARD.
And Tool won the lawsuit against their label! Epic!!
ticks and leaches is about record contracts and their lawyer who signed the 8 album deal
46 & 2 is one of my absolute favourites from Tool, as well as Right In Two ❤❤ Have fun!!!
Here for more Tool! Check out something of their newest album, 'Fear Inoculum' 2019. 'Pneuma' Danny Carry live drum cam.
I second that!! There's a reason he's called The Octopus 🤘🏼🥁🪘🪇
Man your Tool reactions are really cool to watch. I'd love to see you listen to some of the less angry/more introspective songs by them like Lateralus or 64&2.
But I know for sure you'd enjoy The Grudge.
Everybody likes diss records
😂I never went there with this track. But yeah, I guess? Anyway, those drums be spinning in my head . Sick mix. Great upload.
The volume audio change you did around 6:15 in was sick way louder and better quality 🤘
Tool army here. I think you should listen to it first and on the second listen read the lyrics.

This song reminds me of the band Dope.

#DannyCareyforever
It's a song for the record label people at the time.
TOOL 🔥🔥🔥🤘🤘🤘
🌀👽🌀
They don't really play this one live anymore because it's too hard on Maynard's voice 😂
I’ve seen it twice way back. He used a megaphone.
@@johnnyb6067 Yeah, I saw it in their Lateralus tour but I've seen them a few times since and they haven't played it again.
I bet they do it again eventually. They're doing The Grudge and Rosetta Stoned on this current tour which are challenging vocally + megaphone usage. 🤷🏼♂️ Fingers crossed anyway 🤞
Ticks and Leeches and Hooker with a penis are both underrated TOOL songs imo.
record execs didnt care since this made millions
I thought Schism was radio friendly enough
🤘🏻🌀
It's a fuck you to the record label that wanted them to make a shorter radio friendly song. The this in the suck on this, is the actual song.
Awesome lyrics 😂
Suck me dry!? LOL :D song goes hard bro tool is awesome :) cool reaction!look at him broooo funny stuff

Solid Clinton joke sir😂
I think the interlude in the middle of the song is a fuck you with n a fuck you to the record label.

Yeah!!!!!!!👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 Do all their songs. Spiral out and keep going! "LATERALUS" 👈🏼👍🏼
Want to hear another "BIG FUCK YOU" to a record label? KORN "Y'all want a Single" It's a good one.
Fuck that fuck that shit
Wow if u interpret this track sexually I'm scared 2 kno ur opinion on stinkfist 😅
Angry Maynard is the most fun Maynard
Great song but it really doesn’t really fit the theme of the album in my opinion. Supposedly Danny played the drums in one shot on a bet while the rest of the band tried making him laugh.
But that is the point of the song really.
And this is exactly a big middle finger to the radio execs, and maybe to some of the fans as well. Those fans who wanted their older sound
Exactly. It's drawn out because of the decade long legal battle they were put through. It's drawn out so that it definitely wouldn't end up on the radio

TOOL lyrics are loaded with double entendres. What are you talking about?
That’s not true and actually disrespectful… Do you think they are stupid and just start screaming? smh

The moment you read out what the song is about.. this is why we LOVE Tool! 😂
Exactly. Face value
