  • Here is a quick video on How to assemble a Northern Tool Ironton 40 x48 trailer. I plan to use this trailer for a wide variety of uses around my property, but one more specific project that I will tell you about at the end of the video. As always, thanks for watching:)
    Music sourced from the RUclips Audio library. Credits are as follows:
    First song: Plastic or Paper by Wes Hutchinson
    Second song: Not Too Cray by Huma-Huma

    Hey Buddy! Thanks a bunch for this video, I'll be buying this for my motorcycle probably tomorrow. You seem to have come to the same conclusion about the cost effective nature, but not only did YOUR particular analysis make me feel good before I make my purchase, but we are both pretty seemingly hands on and intuitive... definitely made me comfortable knowing it is user friendly... I dig how you didn't need the directions until the leaf springs, which I would've probably double checked also! Again, thanks for the review... you and I think alike!

    Interesting little trailer! I've been looking into getting a smaller trailer to pull with my patriot than my 5×8 or the 4×6, this one you've described and built rather easily looks to be just the right size I've been looking for. Thanks for your informal video!

    Good video, but ... I really need your guidance for the wiring. You just skipped that part as if it were easy and automatic. Was it, for you? Did you just use the guillotine connectors they furnished? Maybe I, not the connectors, am the defect, but they just seem like junk.

    Hey, if its cost effective, there's no shame in that game... Could you standardize your bottom plate size and make your "platforms" interchangeable - fire - water container - etc ??? Fire trailer is a good idea. Uncle Mark could use something like this at the ranch. He has an electrical power water tank that fit on the back of the ATV, but a trailer would give him some additional capabilities. After you finished the first test ride, I figured you would have installed a child seat... Maybe with rails around... :)

      It includes nylock nuts. If you want to do better, you need Nordlock washers. Loc Tite and lock washers have been tested for holding under vibration, and they do not hold. The only sure hold is by Nordlock washers, bend up flange washers that lock the nuts or castle nuts with cotter pins.

      @@Smokeyfilms_ Good Morning and thanks for writing me. Well, I've been watching lots of videos on Bicycle Nomads who have built their own towable campers, including those built upon trailers. I suspect that the trailers they used were of a lighter weight than the one pictured above, but according to my chat interactions with them, apparently a larger load can indeed be towed, even without an electric power assist. Have you built a bicycle camper yet? I'd appreciate any advice you can give me.

    One thought Joe, when you were driving around with it down that steep little incline it looked like the trailer bed came really close to the rear basket on the quad. Maybe a longer or lengthened tongue? With that IBC tote or taller items attached to the front it definitely looks like it would hit the quad...
    Love that you didn't need the directions for the most part, those are generally just "suggestions" anyway, right? LOL!

    • @homesteadonomics
      @homesteadonomics  7 лет назад

      Hi Tracy, yes it's a bit close with the extended quad shelf/basket that extends off the back. I'm going to have to take that into consideration when placing the pressure tank for the brush fire build. I think lengthening the tongue will be the easiest solution... but I'm going to build it first and see if it looks like it will hit... if so then I'm most likely extended it. But hopefully there will be enough clearance;)

      homesteadonomics thanks for the reply Joe, always look forward to your builds and videos. While I may not put it all into practice you really do get me thinking. Snakes? Nope… uh-uh. No way Jose! LOL! They (rattlers) are around in Central California, but I give them a wide berth. Black widows are my worry.

      lol... I hope it didn't look like that. The IBC tote that I have in the video has the top cut off and it is for hauling trash. It's cool how you compared the cost of building one from scratch versus a kit and choosing the more economical one- cost wise. Love the footage at the end on the bicycle!

      haha... yes, it actually pulled pretty darn well with the bike... but probably not so much once I get a few hundred lbs of water and steel on it...lol

    Nice video. I would like to have seen how you secured the plywood to the trailer, though.
