    I'm still trying to wrap my mind around using used motor oil for the deck. Sure does eliminate using the trailer for hauling anything like furniture. Should have coated all sides of that wood before bolting down. The bare wood on sides and bottom will absorb water and finally rot.
    Most of us don't have a sawmill worth ten or more times what the trailer would brand new. Nice mill!
    Love the idea of using the bed-liner for paint. Better than powdercoating

      The oil is an old school thing, works very well and you have to do something with burnt oil anyway.

      Buy treated lumber. That way the wood lasts you 5 years plus no matter if you only put oil on the top part. I use rustoleom paint to help keep rusting to a minimum.

    Adding my 2 sense worth, I would replace the toe boards. On the front and back with 1/4 inch x 2" strap. It will be a lot tougher and probably outlast the trailer. Also it would have a slimmer profile.

    Better the overspray gets on the driveway than the house or car (don't ask).
    I see a lot of people use a skinny board in the middle of trailer decks, but if you have the lumber, better to saw 2-3 of the other boards slightly narrower so a wide board can fit in the middle. Those skinny boards are always the first to break or rot out.

    Why didn't you make the front and side rails higher to the height of 3 feet? With higher trailer sides, you can haul high profile stuff like furniture, bed mattresses and box springs, refrigerators, freezers, and other stuff securing them to the sides during travel. You had a welding machine, it wouldn't take you long to extend the rail height.
    That way, the trailer becomes a much more utilized trailer. Your trailer is very limited in carry design the way it stands.

    • @RedToolHouse
      @RedToolHouse  2 года назад

      I can do that easily with wooden rails and not have to alter the trailer frame. Having a utility trailer with tall side rails would be problematic for other uses.
