  • In this InDesign video, David Blatner shows how to re-arrange pages on the pasteboard individually, so they act more like artboards in Illustrator, for instance. Using the Page tool, he re-sizes them and even uses the align tool to keep them neat and tidy.
    This comes from David’s session with Anne-Marie Concepción and Mike Rankin, “Favorite Tips from InDesignSecrets” at CreativePro Week 2021.

    This is great! I find it very useful because in my job we use illustration to make some digital publications because of the artboard feature and the ability to see the slides side by side, so I'm definitely using this on ID. Thank you so much for sharing!

    Thank you so much. I hadn't idea that doing that in indesign was possible and instead I just use illustrator, but I prefer 200% more indesign so this is a lifesaver

    Such an underrated feature! Thank you so much!!! I use Alternate layouts not for different page sizes with the same content but for different content/products for the same project. That way when I mail merge information in bulk updates EVERYTHING. I feel like I'm alone in this but I wish I could do basic animation in InDesign. It would make social media so much easier as Indesign has way better linking, exporting and mail merge that the rest of the suit believes isn't necessary.

    If anyone can't move the pages away from each other with the page tool, make sure that facing pages are checked off under properties.

    This tip about clicking the pages tool to drag and add horizontal spacing between pages on the same row is priceless! The one caveat I would add is that if you already have content on your pages, you will have to manually reposition it on your pages after you space them out

    Wow! I'm using "unshuffle", but I never went to "Artboard mode". Having one text on overlapping artboards can be useful when you have two different sizes of the same content and control one text which is coming on two products, eg. Adds.

    Got a problem. Following step-by-step, but even when 8 pages are selected with the page tool, align will not work and neither does 'use spacing'. Any suggestions?

    I can't do "Paste in Place" between the pages when I use it this way! Is there a way I can do "Paste in Place"? Thank you.

    • @CreativePro
      @CreativePro  22 часа назад

      Paste in Place is spread based... since those pages are all in a spread, now, it pastes it in the same exact spot. You would have to allow the pages to shuffle and drag them to separate them first. -EG

      yeah, me, too. Seems like kind of a waste of time to try and mimic an inferior page layout tool. If you want that, just use AI.

      There are many times where having pages of different sizes laid out in the same pasteboard comes in handy. For instance, if you're working on a letterhead, business card, envelope, all at the same time and/or you want to export the PDF for a client proof all on one page. This is just a different way of working than in the single shuffled page mode. Sharing items across pages is easier in this way. Laying out a multipage spread like a wrap around book cover (ruclips.net/video/nUGNLd8LmEM/видео.html) is another example. There are several reasons why it might (or might not) work with your workflow. -EG

      I can see this being insanely handy for laying out a billboard with individual panels that need to line up. Being able to overlap the boards is probably going to be amazing for doing things that require printing of multiple panels with an overlap, like large wall and window graphics where your print media is only so wide.
