  • This week’s episode of The Metabolic Link features an illuminating conversation between our host Dr. Dom D’Agostino and Chad Vanags, a successful entrepreneur who is navigating a stage 4 cancer diagnosis with courage and purpose.
After being diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer in 2022 at just 39 years old, Chad has been documenting his journey to becoming “metabolically, physically, and mentally elite” to continue pursuing his life's vision.
In this wide-ranging discussion, we cover:
💪 Chad's backstory as a thriving entrepreneur before his "unlucky" diagnosis
💪 His shift in mindset after being told he has just months left to live
💪 Becoming "elite" across metabolic, physical, and mental health
💪 The stress-health connection and cancer as a "metabolic disease"
💪 The motivation gap - why many patients don't embrace lifestyle factors that could help outcomes
💪 Chad's advice for navigating a diagnosis with mental resilience

Amazing content! Was recuperating after a cancer surgery and my Mom forwarded me this video via text. I listened straight through. Had to Google the word "Metabolic" and a few others as they were new to me. Immediately, I made the decision to go Keto and forego all the poor dietary decisions I'd made. Thanks, Chad for explaining the mental and financial cost of an adverse health situation...especially in our hustle-culture-obsessed world. I've been blessed, yet the financial burden can wipe out someone's retirement savings quickly - I wish for more people to understand these consequences while making lifestyle choices. Keep spreading the word - it needs to be heard. My life has been changed.

The visible frustration with our heath care system is so prevalent in this video. My husband and I share in your frustration. Why does the patient have to stress about the best care, treatments, and habits, etc… to try and live longer!?! Shouldn’t the patient’s job be to focus on healing?

Dr Thomas Siegfried is a Powerhouse of information on the metabolic causes of cancer and you should avoid any fruit that's got fructose in it fructose may not give you a sugar Spike but it's still causes uptake in the cancer cells just keep your sugar levels and your glutamine levels as low as possible and check into those alternative drugs Lake Thomas seyfried's drug that he likes to talk about called Don and another alternative like B-17 in conjunction with Thomas's press pulse therapy

Hi Dr. Dom, 62 yo male with Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma Stage 3, with a cancerous lymph node sitting behind my clavicle (after 2 surgeries, TT and 12 months later, right neck dissection removing a number of cancerous lymph nodes). I follow Dr. Matt Phillips, Neurologist Waikato hospital, Hamilton New Zealand. Low carb diet, cut out sugar and wheats, with intermittent fasting. 3 day water only fasting every 3 months, with a 24hr water only fast once a week. I've moved between carnivore and keto depending on how I feel, probably 2 - 3 months a time. I agree with what you mentioned here, move between carnivore and keto (Mediterranean etc) as I need too. The key for me is cutting out sugar, albeit when I swap to keto, I do have fruit but its cool. And I feel great, thanks guys!

My nutritional coach uses a bioenergetic testing methodology perfected by her father who was a clinical nutritionist. It measures my body's response to a varietiy of triggers. On a monthly basis we review the responses and mitigate with only supplements that correct the imbalances. The digestive enzymes were critical. I monitor my own bloodwork and inform my oncologist who loses all his patients and offers no guidance beyond chemo and immunotherapy protocols.😊

An LDL-C level of less than 20 milligrams per deciliter (mg/dL) is considered extremely low, and some studies suggest that lower LDL levels may be beneficial. For example, one study found that participants with LDL levels below 20 mg/dL had a lower risk of cardiovascular events than those with higher levels. Another study found that lowering LDL to 20 mg/dL or lower did not increase the risk of adverse outcomes like muscle aches, liver dysfunction, or strokes. However, other sources say that very low LDL levels may be associated with an increased risk of certain health issues, such as cancer, depression, and anxiety. The potential risks of very low LDL levels are still being debated

Jeeez! How scary and what frustration this guy (all of those who suffer this sort of health blow)! Our whole allopathic medical system needs a big wake up call. It’s SO IMPORTANT to take in the psychological health along with the physiological side. To exclusively focus on the data/physical (as medical oncologists often do) is myopic; the anecdotal evidence available from innumerable people is almost always disregarded by the oncologists. Is it because they are restricted in what they can say/do within the systems they operate (HMO’s, insurance?) I’ve heard that nurses who care for chemo patients are the ones who often offer supportive suggestions about adjunct interventions to patients-not the oncologist.
