  • This 2023 Brain Tumour Awareness Month webinar "Metabolic Therapy in Glioblastoma" is presented by Dr Matthew Phillips, FRACP, clinical and research neurologist at Waikato Hospital, Hamilton, New Zealand.
    Dr Phillips discusses the idea that most sporadic cancer is a metabolic disorder, followed by a discussion of our current clinical trial in people with glioblastoma multiforme, which involves the most intensive metabolic therapy program, involving fasting and a modified ketogenic diet, that has ever been applied to any advanced cancer.

    Fabulous talk with thanks to Dr Phillips and the Brain Tumour Support for their superb works.
    Dementia is strong in my family and after some research, almost 5 years ago I started an animal based diet utilising OMAD. I quickly realised some fabulous results including a 10% weight loss, systemic inflammation clearance, hay fever cured and a brain fog I didn't know I had disappearing.
    I'm grateful for all the scientist pushing the lifestyle/ nutrition frontiers and best wishes to all the participants through their challenging times.

    Great work!
    I have a brain tumor and I am stable when following the Paleolithic Ketogenic Diet protocol created by Paleo Medicina or ICMNI. I have tried many version of the ketogenic diet and this is the only one that works. It’s hard to follow but very effective. Conventional treatment did not work for me. My tumor cam back and I felt like nothing would work.
    They do have some brain tumor cases with stability of the cancer. Some patients only have used the PKD protocol without the standard of care.
    I am so happy metabolic therapy is being used.

      52:51 I’m surprised you haven’t mentioned Andrew Scarborough or Pablo Kelly😮😢😮

      @@MoveRestEatMeat Thank you - however, Andrew has an anaplastic astrocytoma, and Pablo a grade 4 astrocytoma (this used to be called IDH mutant GBM). These are both very, very different from IDH wildtype GBM in terms of prognosis. We are only enrolling IDH wildtype GBMs in the trial, ie the ones with the most difficult prognosis. Best, Matt.

      Ah so, thank you. My husband had stage 4 GBM and was gone in just 26 months at age 53. His brother died 3 months before him of the same! He only lived 1 year 😢💔😢

      @@MoveRestEatMeat Ah, I am very sorry to hear of this. True GBM is the toughest of the brain cancers by a long shot. This is why we chose it - if benefit can be shown with this one, probably it would apply (to some degree) to many other brain cancers. Sincere Regards, Matt.

    Doctor Phillips, with all due respect, you forgot to mention that fats used in occidental diets are mostly from seed oils which are highly inflammatory. I have been doing fasting and ketogenic diet (only consuming coconut oil, olive oil) for 3 years and i cured from chronic bronchitis and bowel syndrome. This has been the best decision in my life , so I completely appreciate doctors like you doing these clinical trials to support the healing of chronic deseases even worse than mine ❤❤❤ thank you very much and regards from Colombia

    Dr, Matthew, is there an update on the trial? Has it ended? How do we access the results? Thank you SO much for your work! I'm the mother of a daughter with glioblastoma and am trying to spread the word!

    Hi Matt, how about your normal medication, no change in taking them? I've got Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma S2T3aNM0. I've had my second surgery (1 Feb 22 - TT and 23 lymph nodes removed, 10 PTC & 11 Apr 23 - 18 lymph nodes removed, 9 PTC) but want to get in front of this. I've checked out all your work after being introduced to Metabolic Therapy by watching Dr. Thomas Seyfried. I've tried Keto ages ago but never fasting and never successful with my Keto diet. Certainly willing to make the appropriate changes. I'm a male Maori, 60 yo, 175cm at 106kg, living in Perth, WA. My last TG reading was 8, the nuke dr. said it should be below 1, TSH at 0.16 and FT4 at 25. I meet with the nuke and surgeon team next month for my 3 monthly. Starting off with a 3 day fast starting on Tuesday, looking at getting to a 5 day fast every month. Sorry the question about medication, issues, Blood pressure and gout. Thanks again

    What if a patient is thin to start with (bmi 17). Can they still embark and have success on this protocol without losing weight?

    • @drmclphillips
      @drmclphillips Год назад +1

      Hi Audrey, we have two people with a low BMI in the trial (one 17-18, the other 19-20). Both are following the program fully. I have noticed that people with a very low BMI lose much less weight with the fasts than overweight people, so I would tentatively say "yes" to success following the program, although there will still be a little weight loss. Fortunately it is easy to gain back after the 5-day fasts, even with 1-2 meals a day keto. At the end of the day, if a person has a GBM, we treat that as the priority and use different methods to minimize weight loss should the BMI be
