  • Metabolic Syndrome is the condition of having Central Adiposity (belly fat), Hypertension (High Blood Pressure), High Triglycerides, Low HDL-Cholesterol and Hyperglycemia (High Blood Sugar). All five of these things hugely increase your risk of Heart Attack and Stroke.
There are no pills or shots that can cure Metabolic Syndrome, NONE. But, there is a diet which can reverse all 5 of these risk factors, and protect you from Heart Attack and Stroke.
Big-medicine has failed to offer any solutions for metabolic syndrome, as has big-pharma. What works is fixing your diet and fixing your life. Let me show you how...
This will fix Your Metabolic Syndrome: bit.ly/KETO101

Dr. Berry, Thank you so much for preaching against the standard American diet (SAD). Following (not-so-strictly) the ketogenic diet, I have lost 25 pounds and reduced my HbA1c from 8.9 to 5.6. I’m a sociologist who studies food systems, obesity, and hunger, and what I’ve found is that the SAD is killing the middle class and starving the less fortunate. We’re not meant to eat that way. Thank you for what you do!

KenDBerryMD I'm afraid I'm eating too much fat... Is this possible? If I am eating fat every day why will my body ever need or want to use my stored fat? If anyone can help me understand this I would be grateful. I haven't lost a pound in over a month now despite training for a 5k and trust me I have plenty to lose...over 60lbs at least

Dr. Is 100% correct! Within 1 month of quitting sugar and reducing my carb intake...my BP dropped from 145/90 to 120/80.....my fasting glucose dropped from mid 90’s to low 80’s......my weight dropped from 202 to 190.....in a little over a month! Give your body a break,,,,if you cant quit the sugar and carbs,,,,slowly reduce them. 👍

Thanks for the video. I’ve been doing keto for about 6 weeks but low carb for about a year and have lost 50 lbs. since going full keto I have thinned out without seeing a move on the scale and have gotten a little discouraged. I initially started changing the way I eat because I wanted to be healthier for my son that was born in 2015. I think I lost site of why I was making changes and worrying about the way I look. This video helped me realize that again by you listing out all the diseases that a obese lifestyle can bring. I appreciate your videos. Thanks again.

I am IF everyday most days Omad I am feeling better already. I want to . I am still trying to figure out why Dr. So and So says , concentrate on protein and the fats that are with it. Then I am hearing concentrate on meeting my fat macros. I respect your advice and the research you put into all your videos..I am totally committed. I just want to be doing this right...

I am 63, have been doing keto for 5 weeks, am type 2 diabetic, and my A1C dropped from 8.4 to 7.7 after 30 days. But, I am not losing any weight. I plan on eating this way for the rest of my life however I wanted to know if you have nay additional suggestions? I do have metabolic syndrome, all of my fat is in my midsection, I do take Metformin, I do try and do the proper macros, etc. Losing weight would be a bonus and help me stay motivated. I am not currently exercising. Is this the culprit?

    • @marucalame

Switch to carnivore diet. The small part of veggies on your diet could be the problem.
5 weeks is not too much time, you put all your health problems trough your entire life. The body response and heals sometimes fast, sometimes slow.
I can tell you’ll won’t need to take metformin if you’re are in carnivore diet because there is no sugar in protein. I prove it myself with the glucose meter.
You need at least to start to walk, the body needs movement.

Just getting started with your channel. Love your information. Simple to understand and solid lessons. Q: My husband cut his hand on Sunday, required a trip to the ER for several stitches. When he first went in his BP was 188/? when all was finished & he was stitched up they re took his BP it was 173/106 (two hour time span). He won't go see a doctor so I told him I would make a deal with him...2 weeks keto diet and if he didn't drop a significant amount in his BP he was going to the DR. He agreed. Well, here's the actual Q: As per this video, he has the belly and elevated BP. Without knowing a single number for cholesterol/triglycerides etc.... Is it safe to assume they are out of whack and he not only would have Hypertension but also borderline (if not actual) diabetes? Am I safe starting him here on Keto as opposed to waiting over a week to get to the Dr office? Thanks I appreciate your help.

I can’t stay on a Ketogenic diet. It is too expensive for my food stamp budget, and I always feel thirsty for sugar, presumably fruit. But, overall I have cut down on my carbs and increased my fat intake. I go on fasting mimicking diets occasionally. Those are Ketogenic but do not make me crave for fruit. Improvements are slow and painstaking. In one year, my A1C went down from 6 to 5.6. My triglycerides went down from 362 to 230, and my HDL went up from 40 to 60. That’s not a cure, but definitely an improvement. Judging by that, I know your advice is good. Dr. Gregor wrote about how not to die from diabetes, but those people were taking insulin. Insulin is not prescribed for metabolic syndrome. He also referred to a study of a in vitro experiment that showed a droplet of saturated fat could kill a beta cell. Also fats within our cells contribute to insulin resistance, hence my daughter thought I should go fat-free. I’m sure that dietary saturated fat does not translate into saturated fat getting into our cells.

That’s amazing your A1c from 8.9 😮to 5.6. I have a 5.9 A1c which is borderline( I was freaking out at this) I have been supplementing , IF, restricting added sugars and grains etc. I can’t wait to do my blood work on A1c, doc was suppose to order but forgot to add to lipid, CBC, metabolic panel. But, my lipid panel improved drastically other than my HDL actually dropped 2 points?!? Buuutttttt, my triglycerides went from a 233 back in October to 96 today 😊
The biggest problem I have is going over to BF’s or Mom and Dad’s with all kinds of bad food lying around. I try to explain to them that having this around is no different if I was a recovering cocaine addict and they had plates of cocaine sitting around. People just don’t get how strong the addiction to sugar is. The first step, imo, to alleviate the diabetic/obesity epidemic is for these baby formula companies to TOTALLY reevaluate the ingredients. Did you know that Breast milk is 52 percent fat and that formula has zero fat in it??! Smh!!

hi Dr Berry, i have been doing the ketogenic lifestyle with about 20 carbs, no whites (sugar, flour, pasta, rice, etc) since 1 March . Yet my blood sugars fasting is around 110.
I do intermittent fasting, no snacking. 2 meals a day, had most of my thyroid removed due to a goiter about 30 years ago. I am not hungry throughout the day, so fasting is no issue. Now I am hypo thyroid, yet I can’t get any thyroid meds since my standard tests come back „normal.“ i have all the classic hypothyroid symptoms as well as adrenal fatigue . My blood sugar is about 110 fasting and I have a pharmacy of supplements trying to cure myself. Currently I am 60 pounds overweight, I have lost slowly 15 pounds so far but seems I am hitting a plateau. My waist is 41 inches, it’ was 45. it seems the weight is coming off my legs and some off my hips, I am a Apple shape. When I eat my belly swells up. Can you please give me some idea what I should eat for thyroid Keto foods and to crank my metabolism . Very frustrated, I do walk about 30 mins a day and stay busy moving through out the day.

I've noticed that all the swelling in my hands, feet, ankles, and lower legs are completely gone, but will the keto lifestyle help me with fat loss? I'm unsure because of the adrenal issues and the excessive cortisol in my body. And can Keto possibly help reverse cushings?

Question...as I was doing the "new" measurement to calculate my health "risk" (I think you told us about it)...which is your waist in inches divided by your height, in inches...I was wondering how to account for bloating. I am still healing some digestive issues (9 months on keto), and I am bloated most of the time (although not as much as I used to be!).
How do the inches added on my waist due to bloating (only an inch or two), factor into this calculation/measurement of risk, please? Thank you very much. Blessings to you! Jan.

I was diagnosed with a non-alcoholic fatty liver 3 years ago. I happened to be on Keto at the time and lost 60 lbs. Well, I got derailed by other medical issues going on, have had 4 surgeries over a two year period and gained 30 back twice, lost it. Keto didn't work, so I switched to Carnivore and now I gained 35 back, have insulin resistance and Metabolic Syndrome, Carnivore won't work either and yes, I hard core have done ITF too. I feel like I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place. I know that carb creep was my down fall and I don't' mean processed food or anything like that, but fries and wine, chocolate. I take full responsibility for that. I have cut those out...wine being the hardest. It's only been a week, so I'm trying to learn as much as I can to see what else I can do. Now, due to multiple medical issues, hard core exercise is out, I can only walk about 10 minutes, but I am going to start swimming and bike riding(if that is possible with my issues). I have added in some more supplements. I guess I'm just mad because I was 12 lbs. from my goal 3 years ago and now I'm 42 lbs. from my goal. Look, I was nearly 300 lbs. 25 years ago, so I have lost over 130 lbs, not even including all the times I gained and lost over the year, probably 2 people. I've come too far to give up, but I feel close, so I guess add in depression on top of all that.

Most important they are talking about this diet good effects but not about side affect. So well balanced diet and whole grain its necessary to restore your metabolism after keto. A lot of vegetables good carbs and exercise you and everything will be good. They all only want to sell keto brand. I know many cases including myself because i was on the low carb diet and my metabolism completely changed.. good luck everything will be good

I suffer from severe metabolic syndrome, so I tried many things but the best thing that helped was alpha lipoic acid, chromium, biotin, cinnamon, lower carb diet (not no carb I kept my carbs around 200 grams per day which was way less than I used to it. but then I went through the worst change of life I can ever imagine, to the point of being suicidal, couldn't figure out why it was so difficult than I remember I have a history of antibiotic use and I think when my estrogen came down so quickly maybe candida die off? I also found that my body temps went up, for years and years I would be around 96 degrees on average now I am at 99.5 regularly. I am also can eat some pasta and fruits with little problems, I just have to watch the amount of dairy because I think it raises insulin a lot. I did lose some weight and so far it has not come back.

Years ago I was told by my doctor that the reason my TG was high was due to eating too much meat. And that eggs and cheese was the same. To cut back on them.
One big problem. Just recently I ran into this thing called Keto.
Basically I ate nothing but meat, eggs and cheese and such with some vegetables on the plate.
My TG went from 240 to 55. I told my doctor that I ate exactly the opposite of what he told me not to eat. And mind you for the fist time my HDL went from 40 to 60.
    What does this mean?
It means I will never him again., ever. Period.

Hi, love your videos. They are so informative. I am a 51 yr old who has had RNY gastric bypass surgery 3 1/2 years ago. I had a 20 lb regain and started following the Keto diet 2 weeks ago. I first week I lost 7 lbs and feeling really good. Now the weight is up and down 1 or 2 lbs. just don’t know what to do. Carbs are under 20 grams a day. Fats are around 80 grams per day and protein at 50 to 60 grams. Any suggestions?

I am 76 don’t know if that matters but I will continue , Lord please help us both to lose the weight we need. I have discovered I have a shin bone. Lol but want a waist again.

Michael Palermo, Dr. Berry covers statins in a couple of his other videos. You’d have to go watch them to find it, cause I don’t remember what their titles are. All of his videos are fairly short tho. I’ll be going off mine once I finish this last script.

For lots of people that's just a way doctors say "you have too much fat tissue crushing your wind pipe at night." So, you have to reduce the adipose tissue there and however you achieve it by whatever means you got it. Goodluck!!

Great information Dr. Berry ...wanted your take on this dilemma so i have been for about last 3 months intermittent fasting every single day usually between 16-18 hours per day. I also have cut off prob 85% of my carb intake and cut out almost all the sugar I used to eat. I have lost 24 pounds which is great. However my concern is i'm a type 2 diabetic and my sugars have been running high on days when i do not take my insulin shots on about average 280-330 and this is before i eat my first meal for the day. I have been drinking 2 - 3 cups of coffee per day and usually at night which i do add sugar free liquid creamer and sugar free powered creamer and a some Stevia extract as well. I've also switched to ketchup made with Splenda instead of sugar. Do you think that the creamers are the main reason that my sugars are not under control ? Or could it be other factors as well ? I appreciate input from all who have experienced this and what you did to correct it. Thank you all in advance.

antonio ruiz Dr. Berry has a least a dozen Keto related videos on RUclips. They are all short & plain spoken. I can tell you based on his videos & what I’ve studied... read all your ‘sugar free’ ingredients most all of them have a high glycemic index Splenda/sucralose, Equal/aspartame, etc... these raise your blood sugar. :-( The Keto friendly sweetners are: Swerve (erythritol), 100% pure Stevia (liquid tastes better to me), Xylitol and some Monk fruit sweeteners. Switch those fake creamers for a tablespoon of HWC (Heavy Whipping Cream) instead. Best of luck on your journey to good health.

Judi Pauli good information and I started studying up on sugar free alternatives recently and found out how bad they still are for type 2 diabetics which is crazy because
they advertise it as being safe for diabetic patients. I'm going to try heavy whipping cream as I have never have used it ever before and stop drinking my diet drinks flavored with splenda. Thank you for your input much appreciated!!

Well, it would seem that I have Metabolic Syndrome, but I didn't know it until I watched your video. I can check off all five of the characteristics you have stated. I've just started on Keto, and it seems to working quite well so far. I was wondering if you have such a thing as a maintenance plan, or do I just keep eating this way even after I have reached my goal weight?

    • @wtglb
      @wtglb 6 лет назад +2

Gail Moniz you should if you don’t want to gain back the weight and be back at square one. Maybe go low-carb but that can be a slippery slope, carbs cause you to crave carbs, healthy carbs is key I think.
