That was easy enough, glad you didn't fire it up RK. Brand new old stock👍
Yeah Buddy!! I wish they were all that easy!!☺
Love hanging out with you guys!
The NOS 5S is a rare find. And getting it to break loose is a bonus. Thanks of sharing Buddy
Sweet :) Glad to hear that you won't be starting it buddy!
Nice work. Well, if you aren't going to start it, will you at least make it beautiful?
Thanks Newman!!☺
It cleaned up nice. A dandy little NOS 5S to take to engine shows. I'm glad you decided to not run it and just clean it up.... maybe make sure it has spark, but other than that, leave it as-is. If other tubers was to see it run, drag another one out of your shed and fire it up.... it will look and sound exactly as this NOS 5S would. Show the NOS one sitting there, with one from your shed sitting next to it running lol....
That was certainly a unique find and thanks for sharing the 50/50 solution, never tried that and certainly have something to try it on, always a great video !
Nice work there Buddy. Totally understandable that it won't become just "another" sitting on the shelf.
Looking forward to your next adventure.
Brother RK,
Great movie!! Learnt me 50-50 auto trans fluid and acetone. Niiiiice
Watching this video has made me want to get some of my old engines on the bench and do videos on my channel of sorting them. Good video and good job 🙂👍
Another great video! Going to try this on my B&S 5 with the rusted & stuck intake valve stem. Heat & penetrating oil didn't work but maybe this will.
Use it as a never started engine at the show you go to
Awesome, and it was great to see the Dirt Bike family again :)
That's such a cool find!! It'd be a really good one to display with your custom built Briggs engines to show what you guys start with!
Glad I found you thanks for the help
I say give it to little dirtbike to carry through life with him, to always remember the nights at roadkings garage
I was gonna give him the Coupe, but I like your idea better!!☺
You're breaking my heart getting acetone all over that original paint.
The acetone would have evaporated very quickly, so there wouldn't have been any left to damage the paint.
It is really quite the find ! A GEM !
That’s a gem. 5S gem? I can smell it from here.
Thanks Buddy!!☺
Test the compression and spark! This is a rare opportunity to find out what the original compression of a 5S should be. And what the spark should look like.
At least to see if it will generate a spark.
One wonders why someone bought a new mower back in the day. Never ran the engine and took it off. Set it off to the side and let it rust.
Imagine if it never got rusty and looked like the day it was made
A friend of my dad's bought five Toro reel type mowers, removed the engines, turned the clutch dogs in the wheels around, so the blades would run like a old school push mower. He welded up an apparatus to pull the five reel mowers behind his garden tractor to mow his huge yard. It worked really well. He gave me the five brand new engines back in the late 70's.... the engines were all 1967 3 hp Briggs & Stratton's. I used them over the years on other projects, but one I sold to a friend. He still has it and I don't think it has ever been run either. The 65's were aluminum engines. Just maybe someone else did the same thing.......
good to see the Dirtbikes again..
I love watching a good engine get un stuck!!!
That was easy 😊👍👍👍👍
Yeah Buddy!! I wish they were all that easy!!☺
Great job!
You did what you said you were going to do! Thumbs up!
That 50/50 is the best economical, effective cleaner, penetrating fluid and all around shop juice ever made! She is NOS ready now!
I spent 3 mos. trying to free the valves on a 1952 model 5s. The piston freed easily but no matter what I used to lubricate the valves they stayed stuck. I bent 3 bolts trying to drive the valves out from the inside. Finally they came out and had no rust, just crude around the valve stem. The valves didn't get bent at all and seated well. Now I'm trying to get a spark.
That was easy glad to see it wasn't seized up bad. I do agree with you its probably best to leave in its current condition even if you just repainted it people might not believe what it really is. You should put it on a shelf to look at I'M sure that is a rare engine being that old and never being started. Thanks for sharing buddy.
What a great find!!
Nice one R.K.. I always enjoyed playing around with those small gas engines.. Do a video when u start it up.. God Bless you my friend..
Good job Keep going. Make that little guy run.
Several yrs later....... well you folks haven't seen an old 5S rebuild in a long time, I went out to the shed and found this old 5S I forgot about..... lol
Good morning buddy,it needs a glass box to sit on a shelf lol :o)
I've had very good luck using PB Blaster to unstick old engines.
Reminds me of the old 1930s original NOS Harley W engine 'unboxing' I saw on Wheels Through Time. Dale [Wexler] Jr put it right back in its crate! Lol That 'never used' equipment, while of questionable 'real' value, is priceless to the 'collector'. If you ever do start it, you'll know YOU were the FIRST!
Now you need to go to a few yard sales to see if someone is selling cheap a nice display cabinet from the same era :-)
LOL, if I was about 60 years younger I'd put it on a go cart!
☺ Happy Holidays!
Welcome to Everetts 5hp museum, location unknown, private showings by invitation.
Thanks for sharing but my vote is for starting it up. YOLO!
My question is if it’s new old stock then how come it’s missing oil bath air cleaner one that be on it if it was new old stock I mean it is possible but I think that that engine has possibly been restored at some point because that paint is pretty shiny that’s left on it. And if that was original paint one of the muffler be either black or chrome and not green
Make another nice looking oak stand for it, with a little show card " New Old Stock - Never run", would be my suggestion now. That would beat storing it away where nobody will see it.
Take it to shows you go to, show it off.
...good one, nice work, keep safe......
Thanks Bob!!☺
Very cool buddy
Thanks Lil' Buddy!!☺
So many engines; so little time!!
so awesome, the best part of my night. what would it be worth?
Considering the condition that one is in it would probably bring about $125 around here!!☺
The loose head bolt is where the kill switch tab would go.
Well done, they're only original once.
Never been run? that's pretty incredible
I like those 5s motors to run and work on ! Simple and parts are mostly available yet ! I bet you have a dozen of those laying around ! Lol. 😅
Gonna drop my old mans recepie for anything stuck: one cup balsamic turpentine, one cup ATF and one tablespoon oxalic acid.
Should put it in a museum, oldest known engine to have not been run... :D
If it ain't worth at least 200 bucks I'm gonna start that thing and run it at the next engine show
Alright, looks like a lucky break on this one. Thanks for the look.
Yeah Buddy!! I wish they were all that easy!!☺
That's an engine from a gas powered reel mower -- the throttle choke cable is the distinctive clue.
Take that thing and sit it on a hot plate, that usually frees stuck engine stuff expands parts ect.
That’s cool 😎
Tear it down, de-rust it, lube it, put breaking oil in it, and then drive the crankshaft with a drill to circulate the oil, but don't put any gas in it. Make it ready to run as if it had just come from the factory, but don't run it.
It sure ain't Pepto Bismol!
Strawberry Milk!!☺
Good call, on keeping it in original condition, RK. It can only be a virgin, once! 👍
Did it have spark?
We never checked but I'm sure it would have!!☺
If you do sell it I’d love the chance to buy it back! For a bit of a mark up of course😂
We'll probably keep it for a while, but you'll be the first to know if we decide to sell it!!☺
Roadking ..... how much are the membership dues to get into THE CLUB ??? I gotta work in a 20 below zero degree shop. I'm tired of freezing my ass off
I've been there Bud!! I use to work in a Shipyard in my twenties right on the River, in the Drydocks and on the unheated Battleships!! Sub zero temps were commonplace!!☻
@@805ROADKINGWOW I can imagine. I WORKED for a cable company then hydro. Working on the lines in -30 in Manitoba is no picnic either. I'm moving to the east coast. I'll take my chances with the wind and precipitation over hot muggy summers and cold winters. I'll come visit sometime 😉 Nice talking T/C
You had ol' BSA/AJS/Matchless/Maico/Bultaco and Honda/Yamaha/Kawasaki/KTM sumped
Or daddy dirtbike and little dirtbike
Please do the three circle engine again
At least an update with Mike
Thanks
50/50 did the job!
Yeah Buddy!! Ya can't be stingy with it!!☺
nuffa this.
It's a rare motor don't start it do another motor
