I consider myself fortunate to have stumbled upon this set of videos. I have only had the time to view the first one but will be back for more. My grandparents had two Eclipse mowers. One with the lever starter and an older one that had a rope pull that was nothing more than a handle on one end of a rope and a knot on the other. After you got that one running you had to put the rope someplace where you could find it in the future. I seem to recall knotting it loosely over the handles. The lever starter may not be common but it was a major selling point for Eclipse, and they pointed this out in their advertising that it was exclusive to Eclipse mowers. Further, the B & S engine on my Eclipse mower is in original paint which is a teal green, so it isn't out of the question that your blue one was an original color as well.
I've recently started a rehab on an Eclipse mower manufactured in 1959 and have had no luck determining the model number of the B & S engine. If it is an online source that allows you to determine model of engine by serial number would you pass that link along to me. I am having zero luck determining what model my engine is. Really enjoying your videos.

Nice job there RK. For sure, like you said, off a reel mower. The top bracket was to hold a rod that went to the handle bars. We had an Eclipse reel mower but had the "economy" version with a rope start. No fancy lever start for my Father.....LOL Our engine was painted black, called "Putt Putt" because the smoke blew into your face.

My neighbor built a go cart for his son. This was back in the 50s.I remember him cranking and cranking to start it.That lever starter didnt work well. When he finally got it going that same motor couldnt drive it.I thing that the gear ratio was too high. His second attempt was much better and I can recall getting my turn to drive it around the back yard.

Any time I see broken fins at the flea market I just tell the man someone must of been a DILDO or a SPLOOGE and there are millions of them around. They sell them real cheap then. The flush head bolt was made to either clearance a belt, less chance to catch something or someone, keep from over tightening the fastener. Where did you find the engine fella ??? The silvery side cover is a zinc alloy. Just like the flywheel. This engine is definitely a low hour unit. Where are you located Sir ??? Thanks and have a great day too.

As I watch this dismantling,.you mentioned a 'gun' to take them apart and concern about using that to assemble. I'm in your 'camp'. Wwe sold and serviced air impact wrenches for a number of brands of air impact wrenches, and always remember that we had to test them for 'power' i.e. torque strength,...most all manufacturers will tell you that an impact wrench is a "dismantling'
tool and not an assembly tool. When you read the pounds feet rating on a lot of 'higher quality tools' you'll often see that they have two numbers of ft. lbs. The higher number is
the rating for removing fasteners, and then of course, the lower number is for tightening.
Some folks confuse an air tool by the sound it makes and think they are all 'impact' tools, in that they assume that because it makes a ratcheting sound it's impacting, in fact it is not.
I just thought I'd throw that bit of info. in for kicks!
