Great video! M113K Mercedes AMG. I changed the valve cover gaskets. I cleaned both 'suction' orifices in both covers. I cleaned throttle body with a damp 'isopropyl' rag without moving butterfly plate. SL55 now idles rough/surges at idle. I now need to go back and check all the hoses and connections. There isn't a PCV valve on this engine. Code: PO455
It may be that emissions are reduced to burning crankcase gasses, but from a petrol heads perspective, it lowers the octane rating of the fuel being burnt in the cylinders, hence lesser performance. A catch can with breather, and blocking off the pcv cam cover hose, eliminates the pcv system. On my saab the valve is normally in the closed position, so it does not pressurise the crankcase. The car passed it's annual mot with no problems. The car idles better, the oil is cleaner, and their are minimal smells in the cabin. Great video by the wY.
If the fresh air inlet becomes clogged, then excessive vacuum and be created in the crankcase. This can affect oil seals or even create whistling noises on some engine platforms.
Andy !!! Help .... i want proper pcv system on my datsun 510 ? funny i see a 510 in your back ground 😁 i been searching but nobody seems to have it right i think please let me know your thoughts
Is the PCV fresh air inlet into the crankcase connected to the air filter box just to get clean air? What would happen if the hose was not connected to the air filter box?
Yes, the connection is to pull fresh, filtered air into the crankcase. If it was just left open, the air would be unfiltered which is not desired. Some people modifying cars will place small filters on this hose or connection at the engine.
I have a GT500. A Mustang GT has a PCV valve almost the same as GT500, and will fit, but are different in color & part number. Do you think it will suffice?
I do not know off hand. If they are a different color, that might signify that it is a different part internally. However, it could also be a simple change in supplier during production.
hi when i connect the pcv values' vacuum hose to the intake manifold my stratus loses power and when i drive it and come to a stop it will turn off. any help.
thanks for the explanation, can someone explain a bit more on the oil discharge from the PCV valve to the intake? is the oil discharge a normal thing or to suggest a longer hose to prevent the oil discharge from entering the intake? some guys told me its better to disconnect the PCV from the intake and shut the intake valve using a rubber stopper to prevent the oil discharge from entering the intake and to avoid high rpm during engine idle. Appreciate if someone can advise me on this. 😊
The PCV system plays an important role in reducing crankcase pressure. When oil is able to travel through the fresh air hose to the intake, it is often a result of excessive crankcase pressure from another source, such as worn piston rings. An alternative to the remedy "some guys" suggested, you could place a small breather type filter on that fresh air pcv hose and cap the intake side. This would allow the system to function as designed, and eliminate any chances of oil entering the intake.
You would want to retrieve it prior to starting the engine. You could try with a grabber or three finger type tool but may need to remove the valve cover.
I just insert new rubber grommet and insert the pcv valve, is it possible that the grommet can cause any problem in toy engine? My car is honda city 1.5 i-vtec 2010.
Bout time there is finally a video explaining the process of how and why sometging works. As well as the functions of parts. Great video
Thank you for watching!
Nice explanation, thanks from Australia

Real entertaining, Andy. As novice as I am, I understood a great deal so there’s that!

Man I wish I could work in your shop.i really like how clean it is.lol. hate dirty shops
Amazing explication like always, always knowledgeable and very easy to understand, congratulations for your videos
Thank you!
I understood all that, very well explained ...Andy

Thanks 👍

Thank you sir for the great explanation!
Glad it was helpful!
Fantastic informative video thanks 👍
Thanks for watching!
Just found your channel. Great videos with info applicable to all cars subbed and thanks

@@AdamsAnalysis thanks , just noticed my side by side ATV had a loose clean air hose for the crankcase.

Do you no a 2005 Lincoln navigator pvc value where us located every body does a different car need a 2005 Lincoln
It looks like, for a 2005 Lincoln Navigator with a 5.4L V8, the PCV valve is integrated into a hose (PN 3L3Z6A664AA).

What will happen if the pcv grommet fell inside the engine?
