Oh! 50’s when you can get to it, he starred in the movie Loving You at that time. At the end of the movie, he’s inside on a stage wearing jeans and and jean jacket. He’s performing “Got a lot of livin’ to do” if you watch it, near the end when he jumps down and walks down the aisle, his mom is on the right in a blue dress, clapping as he sings. She passed away about a year later.

Charles Laughton was the host for this particular broadcast of the show - with Ed Sullivan still recovering from a car accident. They audience was instructed to stay calm.
The networks were not allowed to film him from the waist down.
He was also told to tone down the movements.
He did concerts where the clothes were ripped from his body,
chunks of hair and skin were ripped from him. Women had never
seen a man move his body on stage.
A photographer wrote they even peed in their pants they got so excited.

You might not know, but Elvis was credited as being the co-writer of this classic. Crafty move by his management, when the song was actually written by a black guy called Otis Blackwell. The same thing happened with 'All Shook Up', again written by Blackwell. Devious dealings indeed by 'Colonel' Tom Parker.

It only took 1 listen to the demo for Elvis to have this song down pat. Just one listen. And then went into the studio, arranged the instruments and backing vocals, and down the master version pretty quickly.

Believe it or not, our boy is already being censored here. Filmed mainly from the waist up, see, our boy's hip gyrations made the ladies knees buckle. 😂 Too funny.

Hi I just discovered you here. Well a song before this one. This was at a time when I was still too young to appreciate Elvis or rock n roll. I could not understand why the o0lder girls were so excited and crazy about him. In these days, they were not allowed to show him from the waist down, because they said his moves were too controversial, sexy maybe? Anyway, I got older and fell in love and became one of excited crazy teens in time too. I am 72 yrs old. Just a note, I saw your reaction to In The Ghetto but comments turned off. I have to say, I have not seen a bad reaction from anyone concerning that song. I did see some reactors get very teary, and emotional, and appropriated that Elvis would do that song, one even said, he did not have to put himself on the line like that for them but he is. Want you to know, I appreciate you did react to it.

Presley was born into poverty; near the black neighborhood which had similar financial challenges! Growing up, Elvis was exposed to black blues and Gospel; when off stage, Gospel was Presley's go-to choice of music to sing...he even made a few Gospel albums.

THIS was the appearance where Elvis was censored and filmed from the waist up only. He did three performances on the show, and all 3 were sensored. Ed Sullivan thought his dancing was sexual or suggestive....lol he'd have a heart attack seeing what performers do today.
At the end of the show, Ed Sullivan called Elvis back out and praised him. Sullivan stated "This is a very Decent, fine, and very nice young man! We have never had a Pleasenter experience on our show than we've had with you Elvis."

The great Muhammad Ali said this was his favorite Elvis song. He actually sing a line of it in this beautiful, moving tribute to his friend Elvis in this link below. Would love for you to perhaps consider doing a reaction to Muhammad's memorial tribute
    In honor of Elvis.
I spent time with Muhammad Ali's brother (Rahman Ali) a couple years ago and he verified their friendship to me and the respect the Ali family had for Elvis.
    Great Reaction again Simone!
Here is the link below for that video.
