The more I watch these 1950s clips of Elvis, the more I see how his mannerisms, playfulness and at-one-with-the-other-musicians was all there from the start. A complete, natural talent ❤
This is rigbt after Elvis got in trouble for his "Gyrating" on stage on the Milton Berle Show While Singing "Hound Dog" so they Sensored him by only filming him from the waist up....thats why he did that little upper body arm thing at the end....just a little touch of rebellion for his fans !! ❤
I’m a 79yr old and still love Elvis, love your reactions, you have such a calming voice, I feel privileged to have been a young teenager in the sixties, with Elvis and all the other talent around at that time
I absolutely love this performance and song. You can't help but smile when he does and laugh at his antics. You would never know that he had suffered from "stage fright" before he went on. Once he did, he was so comfortable and the stage was his home. He did perform with the Jordanaires, Scotty Moore, Bill Black, and DJ Fontana for quite some time. They were all so great at following his lead. Then later during the Vegas years, the TCB band and backup singers were also great at following his lead. Yes, Elvis loved to dress flashy and it does make sense as he surely would be noticed 😂...P.S. loved your smirk when Sullivan said " Oh how I wish I were young again" 😂...Exactly! That's why you filmed him from the waist up huh ED? 🤣...Thank you for a wonderful reaction 🙂
Get well soon. You know you’d never see any artist do those things that Elvis does on stage. Where he goofs around. But he also makes it cool. Added with his smile.
Elvis definitely have the best smile of anyone that I have ever seen. He was beautiful here even in black-and-white. This is a few months later that I’m seeing this but I hope you got well soon. I wish you the best and thank you for this reaction.
I only knew of elvis because of movies, cartoons and other media making parodies and jokes about him. then I actually cheked out the music and concerts, instantly became a fan.
This was when TV dictated a rule that they would film ELVIS only from the waist up...almost at the end Elvis said "here we go"and he let go for the audience! Lucky them. His fan, then, now & forever.
Oh, I absolutely adore Baby Elvis. Love him in all these early tv appearances....so sweet and beautiful ❤️⚡💯 Get well soon and thank you for your Elvis reactions 🙏🏽
If you were on the Ed Sullivan show back in the 60's , it meant you had made it Big time, even though Elvis would of made it whether he was on his show or not. Hope you feel better soon.
This was the first and ONLY time (all 3 performances this night) Elvis was filmed from the waste up. You may notice the Elvis eyes go up to see the audience but at one point towards the end of the song his eyes go even higher. I think he is looking at the monitor and realises that he is only being filmed from the waste up even though he complied with instructions to limit his moves. I think his extra moves at the end was to say to the producers if you don’t play fair, then neither will I.
Actually, during 2 of his appearances on Ed Sullivan he is filmed from the waist up. During the one other appearance he was filmed full body part but his legs were largely obstructed from view for most of the performance so you barely see him moving them.
I could watch this over & over. I agree with you about Elvis and how he changed over the years. WISHING YOU A SPEEDY RECOVERY over your cold. I pray it is just a cold and not pneumonia or etc. GOD BLESS! From Alicia in Kansas
PLEASE REACT TO NEW ORLEANS HIS MOVIE SCENE FROM KING CREOLE AND HIS OTHER SCENE FROM THIS SAME MOVIE CRAWFISH THAT'S A DUET SONG WITH KITTY WHITE U WILL LOVE THOSE PLEASE AND THANKS!
He was just 21 here, & so shy. Amazingly, Elvis was also a shy introvert, until he got on stage, when he became extrovert, but he was always nervous before doing a concert, & his bodyguards travelling with him to a concert, would constantly chatter to him about inconsequential things to keep him relaxed & focused. After the concert, no-one spoke as they travelled back to the hotel (but in Las Vegas he performed in the hotel), unless it was to say that it was a great show, & Elvis would respond with a one-liner. He would usually be exhausted, as his performances were quite athletic. In the Ed Sullivan Show, Elvis was censored from the waist down, as viewers had complained about him moving about the first time he appeared in this show. When you look at it, one would wonder what on earth they could see that was indecent or vulgar or sensual, but different times back then.
My husband told me several years ago that Ed Sullivan decided to show him from the waist up when he performed that time due to how controversial his moves were at the time. He said he watched it live and was 11 years old.
Elvis in those 50s tv shows highlight how much a raw untrained singer can grow into a strong polished performer, whilst still enjoying himself. Such a shame 1958 and the draft came along and it was lost.......
Just to think Elvis wasn't allowed to dance or move back then..If u notice they wouldn't shot him from his waist down..He was actually warned from a judge not to dance.." Truth." Thank u for your reaction..
Great reaction as always. A suggestion: "Steamroller Blues" Aloha From Hawaii, Rehearsal concert, 1973. The full concert was done twice; the first was for in case something went wrong with the satellite coverage of the second concert. Elvis seemed more relaxed during the rehearsal concert although both were great shows. ruclips.net/video/4vAuXP4hIoo/видео.html
They would only show him from the waist up because he was too provocative. He was threatened by judges, banned in certain states, and from t.v. show. Think about the late 60's early 70's. Elvis had black black up singers, which was unheard of at that time. Bob Dillion put it this way, "if there was no Elvis their would be no bob Dillon the proformer," he said elvis knocked down the door so others could walk thru it. Do you really think micheal jackon, who copied elvis in a lot of ways, would have been grabbing his crotch on stage if elvis hadnt been thrusting his hips the way he did. Elvis did 2 versions of the moon walk. One is known as the sideways moonwalk and the other regular one that jackon is praised for , he did on stage while on tour. In his middle to late 30's he was doing polk salad annie, suspicious mind in the same concert he held 2 to 3 times a day. Amazing!
This was Muhammad Ali's favorite Elvis song
Many could probably write the music but only Elvis could really tell the story! Forever the King 👑
The more I watch these 1950s clips of Elvis, the more I see how his mannerisms, playfulness and at-one-with-the-other-musicians was all there from the start. A complete, natural talent ❤
Can you imagine being just 21 years of age and having that much talent and confidence?
Elvis always the best
One of his Memphis girlfriends Barbara Hearn gave him the vest he is wearing. She said she was so proud when he wore it on tv🤗

Great reaction and a demand from the 'bosses' and Ed Sullivan no filming below the waist.
Seriously wow.

Aww. How cute was he.
please react to solitare by elvis
Sad song, but his voice is so incredible !

Yes he was just filmed from waste up. Did you notice how still he was standing.
Feel better soon. A hot toddy should help…

You notice that they won’t film him from the waist down. He was considered to be vulgar by the older generation.
