I performed in the Harrah's Orchestra (1985-1990) in Reno, NV. I played The Don Rickles Show many times! Mr. Rickles was the nicest, kindest person I have ever worked for! His act, which he was incredible, was an act! He didn't have a mean bone in his body! There were only a few entertainers that stood above all the others! Don Rickles was one! RIP Mr. Rickles!
I knew someone who was a waiter at a famous restaurant a lot of these famous guys went to, like Dean Martin, Milton Berle, and Frank Sinatra. They all gave him handsome tips. Don Rickles was probably the most talented entertainer that he ever met, and a nice man. He was Greek but Rickles called him dago XD.
The woman with the wild hair is the infamous Phyllis Diller!! She was one of the best female comedians ever, and her "looks" were always a part of her comedic acts!! Don Rickles was just one of the many GOATS in comedy in the Twentieth Century!! I love watching you guys discover all of this wonderful talent!! Keep up the great work!! 💯🥰🤗🤣🤣💕
in reality, one of the nicest humans to ever work in hollywood. literally everyone loved rickles. everyone. i've never heard a single person say anything bad about him in the 50 years i've been on the earth.
Don is a true insult legend. No one has ever done it better. Back when people could laugh and not have their feelings hurt. He destroyed everyone.😄 RIP Mr Rickles. 🙏
I understand, but it did hurt and people are a lot more sensitive to it now. There is an underlying racism in this humor with Rickles, even though he says he wasn't a racist (I'll take him at his word), but he sure made a lot of money doing it, especially in Las Vegas with that older white population. Sure it didn't hurt white people,s feelings, but it did hurt others, looking at what we know now.
@@erichvonmolder9310 You've clearly never watched an entire Don Rickles show. If you listen to the end of his shows, you'll hear him talk about how we all need to laugh at ourselves to realize we are all the same. Don talked about everyone, race, religion, country, region, creed, celebrities, even real Italian mobsters - to their face. As he would say - he never picks on a little guy, only big people. Meaning that if was ranking you, it's because he accepts you as you are. You've got to remember that Rickles was breaking through during segregation. Don Rickles made it easier for people from different backgrounds to sit next to each other and laugh together, even make contact with one another at a time when everybody was afraid of one another based on looks. Don Rickles helped break social barriers. He barreled right through them, in fact, for the benefit of everyone. This is the nuance that you're just not getting. You're thinking too literal with a modern, oppressive viewpoint. Believe it not, you're rebuilding the walls that Don Rickles helped tear down.
Cause its not about the one who makes the jokes, its about who uses it to fuel their hatred. You have the ones laughing, haha its funny, and you have the "haha goddamn right!" gotta be careful of the later.
@@positively_broad_st3780 , I know what you are writing about and don't think he was mean or unfeeling but he tapped into older white people angst (from his generation) and he capitalized on it and the times. Who went to his shows - older Americans. He had his niche which he used very well, affording him and his family a wonderful living. I'm not sure how much nuance he used to make a bigger point. Who got his nuances, Grandma from Sacramento? Carlin on the other hand, also had his niche in the 1960s, 70s, 80s especially, became mainstream and enduring and took comedy to another place.
I'm glad to see some younger people getting to know the late, great Mr. Rickles. He represents an era that, in many way, I wish we could go back to. It's not a direct quote, but I heard him say once that the reason he was able to make the jokes he did was because he never did it out of hate, it was always out of love. He definitely went hard in the paint during his act, but he was one of the most generous, big-hearted humans you'd ever want to meet. The people he made jokes about always ALWAYS laughed with him, because they knew "they're just jokes" and he truly didn't mean to offend anyone.
Back in 2009, Don Rickles appeared at a casino my grandfather frequented. Because he was indeed such a regular, he got free tickets AND VIP passes for Rickles' show. We got to go backstage and meet him before the show. And yes, he was a man of pure grace and kindness. BUT WAIT! Midway through the show,, he looks into the audience, looks at me, and has me come up on stage. Most of the memory is faded because my mind was practically blanking out from the sheer terror as I walked up onto the stage. We did a WW2 act where we were POWs, and he kept smacking my side with his mic (it had a big foam cover on it) gently when I messed up and making some wise cracks about it in his usual way. But then when we were done and I was leaving the stage, he gave me a big hug right in front of everyone, thanked me for being such a good sport, and wished me all the best in life. And I knew he meant it. He was a great guy. That is a memory I will always treasure.
I noticed how offended some of you were. I find that very sad. This man would never hate on people. This was not an attack behind the backs of the people he made fun of, it was an attack in the face of the people he was making fun of …. With love and respect. Try and keep your minds open when you watch a comedian do their acts.
Don was also very kind. I remember in the 70’s watching him on a variety show and he was teasing and insulting the audience members. He asked a uniformed veteran to stand up and immediately realized that the man had been injured in the war and was shaking. He then praised the veteran and ended it with “God bless you.”
There is no one more savage than Rickles. He was all about equal opportunity insults. What this doesn’t show is that he took as good as he gave. When someone got a good one on him, he laughed so hard. He’s from an era of comedy where people understood it wasn’t personal. It was about poking fun at stereotypes.
Have you seen the roast of Rickles by Foster Brooks? He had Don laughing so hard I thought he was going to fall out of his chair. It's hilarious, check it out.
The best part of Don Rickles is that he was GREAT friends with all those guys he was roasting. Sammy Davis Junior was one of his very best friends. The old school Rat Pack were the best of friends and they held no animosity regarding race, but found great delight in making fun of each other and used it at every opportunity for laughs. If anyone gets touchy or finds it offensive, they are missing out on what’s behind it: great friendship, comfort in that friendship, and 100% security and knowledge that your friends have your back no matter what.
I do not think they were exactly close, but they highly respected each other, and you gain friends that way, and they truly loved each other, and it shows here. I say all this cuz I remember Rickles talking about his relationship with him in comparison to Dean and Sinatra.
Sinatra himself defended Sammy Jr back when places wouldn't allow black people in. Sinatra said if you don't allow Sammy in, we aren't performing here.
Don Rickels off stage was one of the most generous people in show biz. He gained a reputation of being very generous to hotel and restaurant staff. After he died, his staff at his house paid a wonderful tribute to him as a gentle and kind man.
No one was safe when Don Rickles was roasting people, not even the audience! Don was a legend!! When people went to go see Don perform they fully understood exactly what was coming and they laughed. It was considered to be a honor getting roasted by Don.
He did not have a bad bone in his body. He made people laugh for 50 years. It's amazing the stories of how actors and actresses would come to see him just so they can be insulted by him. One of the greatest comedians
Don Rickles paved the way for today's comedians like Ian Bagg. They know how to hit the audience and get them involved. Insult the heck out of them and they laugh all the harder. He is a National treasure who insured the 1st amendment was for everyone no matter how bad you think it is something that doesn't exist today. And the best part is people had thick enough skin to take it and love it. Please God bring this country back. BTW watch Ian Bagg, you'll love him! Love you boys and proud of all of you and your accomplishments.
Don was basically the first true roast comedian. His nickname in the industry was Mr warmth which was to contrast how cold and brutal his style of comedy was but also because he was known as one of the nicest guys in Hollywood with many people praising his kindness and charity work

And notice,, with All those SUPER STARS in all these clips,,, No punches or slaps or slashes from anyone.. Crude, rude? Yes.. But all done with finesse, open hear-ted humor & CLASS.. thanks for recognizing him guys.. Rest In Heaven Mr. Rickles..
He was the last of a generation where people made fun of eachothers flaws as a way of acknowledging an issue but pointing it out in order to confront it and get over ot. A lot of his racial jokes are satirizing the stupid people who actually feel that way.
Thanks for reacting to one of the greats! Mr Warmth himself. One of the all time greats. Sad thing is, someone like him wouldn't stand a chance of becoming so well-liked and beloved these days. People can't take a joke. Everyone who was on the receiving end of Don's jokes knew they were just that, jokes. He was actually one of the kindest, loving people in the history of entertainment. And that's why he could tell jokes like that.
Thank you!!! He was the best... everyone could laugh...Back then everyone watched the same shows and laughed at the same things. The Celebrity Roasts were unbelievable!!!
Back in the day, we could joke with each other and not take everything so seriously! It wasn't mean spirited. It was friends razzing each other in fun. It was way more fun then. Now everyone is offended about everything! Sad really. We didn't go forward, we went backwards! Makes absolutely no sense to me
Rickles "skit" on stage was to do insults. But when the cameras were off, he was one of the friendliest people who you could have known. He famously stuck by his friends through the years, and when he died, NOBODY had a bad thing to say about him as a person. His 'skit' would get calls for people to cancel him today.... but back in his day, being "IN ON" the insult is what made them so funny.
Don Rickles was one of the best. No one was spared. As you were watching everyone was laughing. When he was on TV everyone watched, all races. Today so many people are offended. It was because of people like Don and many others that back then we were able to laugh at ourselves. I sure do miss all of those comedians.
Rickles would roast everyone from every race and background, and he would always end his show with the message of all of us having a laugh together for the better of mankind. A GOAT comedian.
What is missing is the heartfelt lovely things he said to the people he roasted. He was actually a very soft and gracious man. He loved everyone he insulted. It was very, very touching.
The Late Don Rickles was the Master of Insult Jokes. & in 2024, a lot of people would give him Backlash because of his “Sharp” tongue. I am glad I grew up in the 1970’s when folks knew his jokes were just JOKES!!! CONTINUE TO REST PEACEFULLY, SIR!!!
It was considered an honor to be insulted by him, even in the audience. Nothing was off-limits, which is what made it good. He was like Blazing Saddles, he punched it all in the face, and did it with humor.

Old dude was one of a kind.
Correct. He would roast the sitting President, prime ministers, royalty, sheiks, premiers, heads of state - everybody.
Absolutely true. After he rips people a new one he makes them feel like the most special, loved, cherished human on the planet. Especially Carson and Reagan.
It’s cute to watch all of you young men watching Mr. Don Rickles!😊 After what’s been going on in comedy, I needed to come to RUclips and see some comedy from my younger days and came across this video. I don’t know what happened that made us get so sensitive in life. But I’m glad these videos are still around because, doggon it… It’s funny! No malice intended. It’s comedy🤷🏽♀️💞
Could you imagine what he would do with Biden 😂🤣😂🤣
The good old days when we could be honest and laugh with each other and not be “offended” 😅!
Rickles was one of the first comics to talk to and obviously, insult the audience but never in a mean way - he was a good guy
And now you'll never forget him .
A truly great comedian ...lethal onstage ...sweetheart off stage .
Glad to see the younger generations getting to see some classic comedy!
Bro y'all gotta do RODNEY DANGERFIELD! He was the king of one liners in this era! 🔥🔥
He gets no respect, I tell ya. 😂
Back in the day when comedy was actually funny and everyone could laugh at themselves!! Loved Don
RIP DON RICKLES! The best comedian ever! He lived in a time when we weren’t so sensitive…
A comedian of ICONIC status. There will never be another to come close.
The goat as far as insult comedian with no routine or practiced bit.
growing up as a child in the 70's , i always thought she was the ugliest woman ever ... haha
in reality, one of the nicest humans to ever work in hollywood. literally everyone loved rickles. everyone. i've never heard a single person say anything bad about him in the 50 years i've been on the earth.
Don Rickles is one of the best roasters of all time.
Thanks for posting this !
I'd love to see him and Jeff Ross at a table in the back of the comedy cellar
DON RICKLES WAS ALL TIME INSULT COMIC!!! HE GOT EVERYBODY OVER HIS LIFE!!! HE LOVED EVERYONE😍😍😍 Saw him in Vegas twice...HILARIOUS!!!!!
He was active on twitter until he passed. He was always so quick with the insults.
Don was a comedian , that no one could touch. 🤣 bought back memories of all those Actor's.
Been a fan for years. He always said it's all a joke. he will be missed. Thanks for the shows.
I love the way these lads can take a Joke 🏴😁
@@PhazonInfuserbrilliant story brother, don will be missed by millions worldwide ❤

Don was also very kind. I remember in the 70’s watching him on a variety show and he was teasing and insulting the audience members. He asked a uniformed veteran to stand up and immediately realized that the man had been injured in the war and was shaking. He then praised the veteran and ended it with “God bless you.”
Don Rickles was a legend. Most woke and inclusive dude ever. He wrecked everybody and never held anything back
The Dean Martin celebrity roasts were the best!
Was my favorite comic
Exactly. Dude was Savage towards everyone. No one was safe 🤣🤣
@@NoOne-kr4jc they were best friends. It is well documented.
The rat pack back in those days, were what your entourage or your crew are now
@@Blackhawks007 best friends as long as you didn't cross Frank.
Glad to see the comedy was able to transcend a period of time and these men were able to enjoy it. Good to see.
No one was safe when Don Rickles was roasting people, not even the audience! Don was a legend!! When people went to go see Don perform they fully understood exactly what was coming and they laughed. It was considered to be a honor getting roasted by Don.
Back when you could laugh at jokes without worrying about being cancelled!
He did not have a bad bone in his body. He made people laugh for 50 years. It's amazing the stories of how actors and actresses would come to see him just so they can be insulted by him. One of the greatest comedians
I heard he was a really great guy when not doing his act.
Can you imagine having Don Rickles as the funny uncle at parties?
Seen him live and what he had going for him was everyone knew he wasn't serious and had love and respect for all folk.
Insult comedy is really a lost art. This was amazing.
Don was basically the first true roast comedian. His nickname in the industry was Mr warmth which was to contrast how cold and brutal his style of comedy was but also because he was known as one of the nicest guys in Hollywood with many people praising his kindness and charity work
Love him.. Believe it or not he had A lot of CLASS & behind the scenes he was a sweet Man.. So Beloved & missed.. One of The GREATS.. So missed..
Love Don Rickles...behind the quick wit and sharp tongue was a heart of gold.
One of the greatest. And you kids…great job. Love your work. No snowflakes.
Love Don. He was and always will be the best.
The Dean Martin roasts were loaded with talent.
Thank you!!! He was the best... everyone could laugh...Back then everyone watched the same shows and laughed at the same things. The Celebrity Roasts were unbelievable!!!
My favorite of those Celebrity Roasts was Red Buttons 'Who never got a dinner'
There are not enough superlatives to describe just how good the Don was.
R.I.P Don Rickles
Darn. Don didn't call anybody a hockey puck and it was considered an honour to be insulted by him. RIP. '
He cracked jokes on everyone but in life he loved everybody and was a sweet man. Hes not been gone too long but is very missed.
If you have never watched the movie Kelly's heroes it is a must. His humor is there as well as his ability to act.
I enjoy this program. They are a nice group of young men. There is hope in our world. Thanks, and I subscribed.
Rickles knew the secret to comedy; always be funny and you can say anything. He was the best insult comic ever by far.
What is missing is the heartfelt lovely things he said to the people he roasted. He was actually a very soft and gracious man. He loved everyone he insulted. It was very, very touching.
Back in the day when people could laugh without always being offended
Yep, back when closets were made for hanging youth clothes, not a cry closet.
Glad yall reacted to an og. Mans a legend rip🙏
Grew up with Don Rickles so savage but hysterical he made fun of everyone no one was off limits. I miss the old comedy
One of the quickest wits of comedy history! Half of the people he clowned didn't know it until the laighter was halfway through
He was brutal on stage; but a real sweet guy in real life. Loved by everyone around him.
LOL love this guy. He comes from an age in which we were still able to laugh at each other.
Love it! Love him! Nobody was off limits when it came to his jokes. No matter what race or sex you are he laid into everybody lol
Don Rickles never met a person he couldn't insult! He was the best at it!!
Mr. Don Rickles is a BEAST‼️ WW2 Veteran, Actor, Comedian, and a voice actor as Mr. Potato Head in Disney's Toy Story series... miss his type of humor.
People would wait in long lines to get insulted by Don. What a fantastic legend.
Everyone he insulted was a great friend to him. He was the most generous human being you could ever meet.
When Don finishes his sketches, he ends it with humbling words. He makes sure to say I love you to everybody
Don is the king of the savages, but by all accounts the sweetest guy ever!
