There's a funny story about this bit. This routine was filmed in North d.c... most of the black folks in that area have good gov jobs, college educated, it's def a middle class black crowd. And they loved the bit. Next week he did the same show in Oakland.. the audience had a lot of ganstas in it.. and they were threatening to kill him for calling them stupid. Security and the police had to rush him out of the venue as soon as the show ended. Shows the divide, at the time, amoung black folks.. 2 totally different cultures amoung one people. Goes to show you can't pigeon hole anybody because of their color. There is no broad brush.

@@stevenwilliams1805 absolutely. I lived in Arizona for years. And there is even a huge cultural difference among nations in that one state. The white mountain apache are far different from the pima.. and both are far different than the Navajo. I had friends among each and I swear I could tell which nation someone was from by their mannerisms.. long before they told me.

I know there's all different types of crowds that is totally true but if people can't laugh at themselves when a lot of it is based on truth and history and I'm talking history just like the last 30 40 years I've never been to Oakland so I can't say what it's like there but what I can say if you open up a business that's restaurant or Club related in any City if you start attracting people that are going to scare other people away your business is not going to make it! And when I say the people that are going to scare business away it doesn't matter the race it could be black it could be white it could be Asian it could be motorcycle clubs it's a very complex situation for what example look what happened to Baldwin Hills Mall which is now a ghost town it could happen anywhere in any City in the world and if people don't believe that then just continue to believe that everything is fine in the world Chris Rock just had the balls to say it

This was such a pioneering comedy routine. Nothing else like this existed before it. It raised the bar on what you could get away with and the simple observations no one had even thought to make a joke of. I suppose we had about 15 years of freedom from this (1996) until around 2011 when stuff like this started getting censored and today... you'd certainly not be viewed the same way as this was back then. A legendary stand up show, maybe the best ever done.

He’s humble enough to not brag about it and confident enough to bring it up to everyone else and in front of a camera for RUclips. I don’t want to believe any of it is rehearsed for showmanship, so I’m choosing to believe that’s how he lives his life and if so, he’s the kind of person who’s going to make a positive impact on the world. lol legendary bit. As a white dude I almost feel uncomfortable laughing at some of the stuff in this bit, but it's objectively hilarious. I think the reason it works so well is because he draws a clear distinction between the two groups and makes it clear that he's fed up with the way certain people act, not those people themselves; it's a critique of certain people within his community rather than just a group of people, if that makes sense. Also I think it's surprisingly relatable to all people, because it basically is a rant about how annoying ignorant people are. We all know certain people in our lives that are just constantly getting it wrong and they think they know everything, regardless of their skin color.

Rob Lowe was the host and The Spice Girls were the musical act. Dejected, my buddy and I walked away and saw that Chris Rock was performing right around the corner and RCMH. When we saw the ticket prices they were way out of our price range. Then an old couple outside the venue said that they didn't feel like going to the show and asked us if I wanted their tickets. WHAT!!!! Heck yeah!!! Took our seats and realized I was sitting right behind NBA legend, Dr. J. I agree with your comments on jail. It all started when jails became "privatized." Once jails became for profit, the legal system focused on YEARS IN JAIL instead of REDUCED CRIME. Thanks for another great reaction.

I watched this special so many times and I feel like Rock is the only person who could do this bit. Eddie Murphy is probably my favorite stand up comedian and I don't know if he could do it the way Chris Rock does. What he says applies to every race, that's just part of the human race, but its just Rock's ability to tell a story that makes it hilarious. Yall do a good job, I enjoy watching yall videos.
