The funny part about these is the show is actually pointing out the complete foolishness of racism, so when it gets labeled offensive or racist it’s really the opposite, censoring it and acting like it isn’t real is far worse.

A crazy example of this is the scene where Peter talks about why the army is so great. "Great pay, fly around the world and theres plenty of brown people to rape" The delivery is so crass you might call it racist, but the fact is that those actions are happening in real life. The writers want you to have a strong reaction because it is real, its not a joke on a cartoon and there has to be awareness about these things
@@IplayTeemoasaWard I still can't believe they got away with that the line "all the brown people you can r*pe." Not because it's racist, but because it's so critical of our military. Very few American TV shows or movies criticize the military in any significant way for fear of backlash.

For the most part, those jokes targeted racism and racists. Idk why people tend to react negatively solely if a joke MENTIONS a controversial topic without any further consideration.
Like the slave jokes...basically all of those were making fun of white people. For example, the "but we're cool, right?" one was making fun of what some white slave owners must've thought at the time ans the absurdity of thinking that "were cool, right?" was reasonable to some people. It's obviously paraphrased with a modern vernacular for humor's sake...like they thought the 19th century version of "we're cool, right?" But whatever the actual wording would have been at that time, the sentiment and idea would have been the same as saying "we're cool, right?".
The joke is never at the expense of black people. 99.999% of "racist" jokes today are like that. The reality is that people who flip out and demand cancellation or some other disproportionate retribution through mob justice are just people without the capacity or willingness to understand a joke that doesn't require a particular intellect to comprehend....some people are just simple at their foundation and some, (likely more than are just "stupid") are narcissists incapable of empathy and decide to actively not understand the joke in an effort to cultivate this valuable version of "victimhood" and, in turn, social currency. These are by far the worse of the two because they don't care if someone's life or at least their work is ruined for them to garner some social attention.
It doesnt seem like you guys are like that at all seeing as you're able to laugh at this stuff for the most part. But i do think its worth thinking about because you clearly have the ability to conceptualize these sorts of jokes beyond the surface level that many people choose to stop at.
