He didn't move much because they wern't allowed to film him from the waist down. He was considered vulgar back in his time. I love Elvis, thank you for this reaction.
Csme here to say just that lol my mom went to 1 of hid concerts at 13 my grandmother was non to happy she did t know because they didn't show him below the waist on tv lol
This was on the Ed Sullivan Show which he appeared several times. This particular one as you saw he was shown from the waste up because of his "wiggling" watch more from This time period.. He had so much talent and love for his fans.. I don't remember a time when I wasn't an Elvis fan.. Also from his movie King Creole which was filmed on Location in New Orleans before he did his time in the Army, look up Crawfish and Trouble. Thanks from all us Elvis fans for helping to keep his legacy going.
Also i want to point out to you that after a few live tv performances were deemed to be vulgar and indecent for the time, Elvis was told to tone it down and they began filming him from above the waist only. Thats how strict it was back then, and why Elvis seemed reserved and calmer in this one.
I've been sitting here watching you React to all these Elvis videos. I found myself smiling and laughing at your reactions, because they are so pure and honest. You have brightened this old lady's day. ❤️
Right at the end of the video you can see Elvis the moment he realised he was only being shot from the waist up. You can see the mischievous look on his face just before he breaks loose in the last few seconds of his performance.
Hi Pzo... discovered your channel today. I've subbed because it's Elvis! 🎸 This man is phenomenal, and is still loved worldwide. More Elvis please! 🌍🇿🇦
I have watched a couple of your reaction videos to Elvis and I am really impressed with the fact that you are very open to things outside of what your generation knows. Elvis was my mother's time so I grew up loving him because of her, but I'm happy to see how you understand his humor, changes of tempo, tone, dance moves and the way he interacted with the audience. I think it shows that even though you are young you are very intelligent and understanding in a much deeper old soul kinda way. Keep it up!
I'm really enjoying your reaction videos and that you are so passionate and appreciate Elvis' performances. It's nice to go on this journey with you that brings back so many memories for me. I look forward to receiving more of them. Thank you for sharing. 💖
He is known as the King of rock and roll but also sang gospel. Ironically at the time promoters pitched him as a white guy who sounded like a black man.
There’s the 50’s, 60’s, & 70’s Elvis. So many unique songs and ways of singing as he matured. If you haven’t done Bridge Over Troubled Water live 1070, it’s phenomenal & though I e heard it covered by many people, once you’ve heard Elvis sing a song, it usually becomes your favorite. A really powerful song that grows in power is Tomorrow Never Comes ( not done live but a terrific song) to react to. Thanks for doing Elvis & you’re an enjoyable young man. God bless. 😊❤❤❤
@@polocash11 Yes, he was very young in this clip. He was born in 1935, so I’m not sure of the yr but it was in upper 50’s. He was about 21 or so. It’s sad to think he was already about half way through his life.
On this one he was already in trouble and threats to arrest him and even death threats were everywhere. Host Ed Sullivan (the most important TV host of the century and ever) gave Elvis the ultimate break but nationwide anger was penetrating even this show. Sullivan said he had to chill out the dance moves and he did until the end. But the cast was set. Elvis was a huge hit on every Ed Sullivan show appearance. Add in Hound Dog and even a Christian gospel number and Elvis was the most popular singer in US history just like that. Ed Sullivan was more powerful than even todays internet as some 80% of US homes watched that show. That’s insane power.
The amazing thing about it is there was no auto turning back then. His voice was perfect. As a matter of fact because of the way his voice landed on the "note scale" his voice could not be auto tuned. If anyone tried it would end up being distorted. Look up youtuber " pegasus"...
The censorship at that time was very strict; therefore, Elvis could not move like he wanted to. He was prohibited to move below the waist. If you notice, this video is above the waist (to ensure) that Elvis would adhere to the restrictions. He still managed to inject his personality into the performance. Things were different then. This is way before my to time, but I know that in my time there were remnants of that era. Elvis was instrumental in changing things, in his time. He was a trailblazer. New artists owe a debt to Elvis.
When Elvis sings he feels every second of it but the really amazing thing is his fans ( me for one ) I feel it deep down in my soul and my heart beats faster than it should I feel my heart beat in my throat and deep down in my stomach and my legs get super weak !! That is when you know you just heard the best there is on the planet !! Even at 70 years old it still happens to me. I LOVE ELVIS !!
Oh my god , Elvis Presley is the only one in hundred years happened, he was the one who got everything in top of the world. Thank you to brought Elvis Presley alive . His music would be alive for ever 👍👍👍👍👍
He was born in 1935 so he is 22 in this video. Such a handsome man. Compare his looks to his background singers. They are okay but, he is So freaking cute that females totally melted around him.
Elvis was revolutionary because he used to move on stage. Elvis could dance and swing his ass. Elvis was the first singer you needed to watch sing. All the others before him just stood still and sang their song. Elvis had the moves and he moved. People thought he was vulgar, indecent and too sexy. Elvis moving on stage was a huge scandal and very very controversial. Parents didnt want their daughters to see Elvis. TV networks censored him and would only show him from the waist up in case he swung his hips. In Florida, the police chief came to elvis before his show and told him he would be arrested and thrown in jail if he moved even a finger on stage. So Elvis did his show on stage, didnt move, and held up his hand and moved his little finger to the beat.
The background singers are "The Jordanaires" - 4 brothers who were all ministers. Elvis was very religious. As others have pointed out, they were not allowed to show him below the waist, his moves were considered vulgar.
They basically censored it because he moved too much from his waist down and they thought it was lewd and way too sexy, it just wasn't something you would put on TV so that's why they censored it and only allowed him to be shot from the waist up. Didn't make any difference everybody knew what was happening from the waist down LOL
Fantastic reaction. This is so fun. I think there's one from the same show where he does hound dog and while it was the Milton Berle show a few months earlier which is also on RUclips in black and white, that's the one where he slowed it down to half time without even giving his band any notice and just made everybody go crazy, that resulted in them largely not letting him show his dance moves a few months later when he started appearing on The Ed Sullivan show, as in this performance. But still his hound dog on this is great because you get to hear him come out on stage and he's got about 30 seconds of audience interaction before they started and then about the same afterwards and it just gives you a great insight into his stage persona as well as really, his character.
Also fuaght with mom my between her love for Elvis and mine for Jim Morrison. Now being 58 years old.. He was the king. You were right mom.. Love and miss you
The Ed Sullivan Oct 1956 show, Elvis whole body was filmed. I guess Sullivan, got nasty letters because in Jan.57, it was back to the waist up Elvis. Sexual things were not on TV back then, but Elvis changed the culture, clothing, hairstyles and music and things began to change.
1957 is when Elvis changed everything for the younger generation. If you have time check out the type of music before him Perry Como- Frank Sinatra & Bing Crosby. Then along came Elvis hips moving and the fast beat music was all new and the teenagers loved it
Just wanted to say that Elvis appeared 6 times on the Dorsey Bros stage show from Jan 1956-March 1956, then twice in June on The Milton Berle show, once on Steve Allen’s show and on Ed Sullivan in Sept. and Oct 56. He sang several songs on each of these performances. I think on the Jan. 57 show he sang 4 or 5 songs. My favorite is his Oct 56 performance of Hound Dog on the Ed Sullivan show, because he was such a tease, and showed his sense of humor while driving the females nuts.
Check it out, I was 3 years and 4 months old when this was recorded. This is one of my favorite Elvis songs, I will turn 70 this year and I have never seen this video before. Thank you for turning me on to this treasure. Even I am being exposed to music from my era that I haven't experienced before.

21 year old Elvis, 2 days before his birthday. Was only allowed on Sullivan show this time because he wasn't suppose to move lower body, he was banned from it. He couldn't help it. It was in his soul.😊
Please remember this is when TV and any live shows he was doing were highly censored, they repeatedly warned him not to move like he normally does or they wouldn't have him on their shows. Many time (this one included) they shot him from the chest up so people at home couldn't see his hips and leg moves. Ridiculous when you watch TV today but that is what it was like back then.

If Elvis danced from the beginning they likely would have went to a commercial. It's why he's only filmed from the waist up. He was the bad boy of that Era. Great reaction!
When he first came on the scene in the mid 1950s, Elvis' moves on stage were so wild, he was getting banned and some radio stations wouldn't play his records. In those early TV appearances, they decided to film him only from the waste up and told him to tone it down. This Don't Be Cruel performance on the Ed Sullivan show is a perfect example. Next, try "Hound Dog" on the Milton Berle show where they let him be himself and didn't cut him off at the waist.
You’ve got to watch One Night With You... Elvis sings in his 79’s Come back Tour! All dressed in black!!! Everything he sings he wonderful! So happy to see you enjoying it so much🤗💞
