This is probably going to sound kind of strange but I just graduated with my BS in Forensic Anthropology and I handled dead bodies. I saw every single one of someone's organs outside their body. I've seen a body go from completely fresh to a skeleton in a month or two. I learned every single bone in the human body, where it's located, and how to identify it from a two square inch fragment.
These experiences honestly made me respect my body more even for its faults. My stomach may have too much fat and stick out but it holds so many of my very vital organs. My neck might be a little too thick but it helps me sing in the choir. My legs are kinda flabby but they carry me where I need to go. My whole body might be heavier than necessary but it took me through my degree and my brain soaked up all this incredible information.

I used the HCC today! There is ice cream in my freezer at the moment and I found myself wanting a bowl at 10.30am 😂 instead of denying myself, I had 100ml of ice-cream blended with a scoop of protein, a cup of almond milk and a handful of berries for a delicious protein thickshake. Satisfied that ice-cream craving, filled my up and it was actually a healthy snack 👌🏻

Intuitive eating is different to everyone!
Personally, when I started recovering I was eating around a 1/3 c of oats with strawberries and would get super full, but nowadays I have to eat around 1 1/2 c of dried oats + protein powder + peanut butter and fruit just to stay satisfied -and still need a filling snack between meals!
Yes, it’s a process to get out that scarcity mentality, but after some time it just becomes natural and you get to find what works best for you
    Anyway, love this videos!

I honest to god love broccoli. This afternoon I made a bowl, and then stopped and thought, "that's not enough." I added a good blob of my home made nut butter (almonds, walnuts, Brazil nuts, chia, hemp seeds and peanuts all blended up) and then sprinkled a good handful of my tofu (crumbled, seasoned, and baked, with nutritional yeast, soy, sriracha and lime juice) and it was AMAZING!!!
I would have had chocolate or something later - but I just didn't want it.

Great video! I definitely had to do a lot of checking in with myself before, during, and after meals when I first started eating intuitively because I had completely overridden my hunger+fullness cues with dieting. But, like you said, it eventually becomes intuitive (lol) and I don’t really think about food until I want something to eat. I’m glad to see more and more you tubers and tiktokers embracing intuitive eating.

This is totally relatable. I cook in big batches whenever I can cook, but I also freeze a lot of meals when I’m in a better space. This means that sometimes I’m eating the same dinner for a week, but at that point that’s all I can manage and I also don’t really have a preference when I’m so depressed anyways. I also fall back on things that are really easy to chuck together, like yoghurt with granola and mixed nuts and frozen fruit. Also I will eat the same things for lunch and dinner. I eat two warm meals a day since being home with covid and having access to a microwave, so if I don’t feel like making lunch I’ll just pull a frozen dinner out. It really doesn’t matter what you eat and when you eat it, as long as you eat it. Making sure that at least your body has enough fuel to run on will help you to feel better mentally. I start feeling very anxious and panicky and cry-y (?) when I haven’t eaten enough.

It’s exhausting. I try to listen to hunger cues, but it can be a constant battle when disordered eating is at play. I love that you gave some timelines and tips to go by! I do try to snack if my belly is hungry, obviously baby is needing a snack if that’s the case. I really love watching your videos and learning more about what is a healthy relationship with food. Right now I am in anorexia recovery, and it is really helpful to hear that if I am craving a certain type of food or a certain quantity of food it’s because my body knows best what it needs since it’s been restricted for a really long time, and that I shouldn’t feel guilty or scared to give it what it wants. Working on allowing myself to feel more free around food, but I am on the right path, so thank you! 💕

@@XunluT suuuper late reply, but I think you should consider external factors. First, if you have a history of disordered eating, restrictive EDs, or using food as a coping mechanism (boredom eating, emotional eating), diving headfirst into IE may not be the best option. You've basically trained yourself to ignore hunger cues, and other bodily signals telling you the food you're eating isn't good for your body. In that case, the authors of the book recommend you go through a period of mechanical eating, to once again get in tune with your body and establish a normal eating pattern. This usually means following a meal plan, journaling about your food experiences and going to therapy to address any issues you may have. In fact, therapy is the most crucial step in adopting IE since it will help you address the root cause of your food issues, which will in turn help you heal.
Second is something nobody acknowledges, not even Abbey and that is-the inherently addctice properties of ultra-processed foods. To be clear, these foods are not morally bad for you. But it's naive to say they aren't addictive. The Lays manufacturers straight up admitted that they own a $40,000 machine that simulates a chewing mouth, so that they can perfect the mouthfeel and crunch factor of their food, to keep people coming back for more. Food companies spend millions trying to engineer foods that have the perfect combination of carbs, fat and salt (it's called the bliss point) that will override your natural hunger cues, and keep you mindlessly eating. So while it's easy to say 'allow yourself to eat this stuff in moderation' in practice it isn't always feasable-especially when the food is literally made in a lab to not be eaten in moderation.
Then there's also childhood habits and previous eating patterns to consider. It's a well-known fact that our parents pass down their eating habits onto us. So if you've spent your entire life eating processed food, then this is an ingrained behavior that's going to be very hard to break. That's why a lot of obese parents produce obese kids.
Then there is the cultural element. In some cultures, eating hyper-palatable ultra-processed foods, and going out to eat is a common occurrence. For example, I'm always shocked to see that Americans and Brits eat fast food or restaurant meals multiple times a week without batting an eye. It's a normal thing over there. And while there is nothing wrong with treating yourself occasionally, we can't pretend this food is healthy, especially if you consume it so frequently. IE is also about health, not just food freedom, and consuming this stuff regularly is not intuitive, since it's going to make you feel like garbage. Therefore, if you've grown up in a culture where stuff like this is the norm, you're going to have a hard time doing IE.
To end this massive tirade, IE is great if you come from a background where eating nutrient-dense food was the norm, but you screwed yourself up trying to diet. However, if you've spent your whole life eating nothing but processed, it's difficult to achieve. I know restriction leads to binging, but when it comes to certain foods, you definitely have to limit them because they're literally designed to override your natural instincts.

I just finished a peanut flour cookie, well, decided I want no more. And I really, really wish I had eaten a salted tomato, but I'm not hungry, so after a bit, I'll chew some gum. I'm not always after high fiber salad, but given a choice between fried food and $17 salad, I'd go hungry.

Oh that video comes handy! I've been collecting data on my eating experiences to intuitive eat for the last 4 months now (wow time flies!) and I still have struggles :)
Like finishing or not what's on my plate... Last time I was at the restaurant and I was pleasantly surprised to be enough in tune with my hunger to feel when I had enough and leave a few things on my plate. My mom and sis, who are also struggling with food, were there. I felt proud to explain to them why I was leaving food and how I usually knew what I wanted as snacks. My mom seemed quite interested in the "smelling the food", when I gave the example of the snack & smelling the food to choose between apple or chocolate or yogurt. Thanks to Abby I now am confident when choosing (and sometimes I have all, because hunger crushing combo! ^^), and my mom was surprised to see that I wouldn't just eat all... As I'd do when I was overrestricting and just missing tons of calories :$
    So thanks Abby! :D

Victoria seems so positive and fun. I also love that she showed everyone what her bloated tummy looked like. I think it’s important to see that thin people can get really bloated too. I’ve dealt with weight issues for years, and it’s hard not to blame bloat on the fact that you’re overweight instead of a natural part of being human of any size. So thanks, Victoria.

I’ve cooked for myself so much that I normally always finish my plate! I do weigh things like pasta and rice, but only because of food waste. I weight how much I know makes me satiated, and I add more if I know I’m going to want more, and less if I’m in a less hungry way. It doesn’t freak me out which is why I see it as intuitive :)

When my husband and I were dating many moons ago, we both stayed at the college for a summer and worked, took classes, and hung out. I remember telling myself I was giving myself a break from dieting and worrying about my weight. I had just come off the binge-purge cycle with laxatives, and I was so weary of all of it. He was dating me for me and not my weight. Best summer of my life. I didn't gain any weight that summer. I don't believe I lost any either (that came later from being ill). I just lived, and it was glorious.

But the lesson of being allowed to leave food on the plate has made such a huge difference. Just the difference in feeling from being comfortably full v being uncomfortably overstuffed has been amazing, even if it's taken a really long time to stop feeling guilty over it.

Man, the way her stomach was when she was saying she’s bloated right now…that’s literally how my stomach is every single day, even if I haven’t eaten, due to severe gut issues I’ve had for years. It’s so SO discouraging. No matter how much I workout, how low my body fat percentage is, how long I don’t eat, all the thousands of treatments and diets (for health reasons) I’ve tried…. I have no control over it and it SUCKS. It’s one thing to have to accept that as an exception, but every day, forever. It also causes a ton of pain and tension and issues throughout my body, being distended like that all the time 😭

I have Crohn’s disease so have to stick to a low FOD-MAP diet. I had disordered eating a couple decades ago but the Crohn’s diagnosis in 2002 stopped me going down that rabbit hole. (One silver lining!) The part where you said about the skittles and not eating something like trout while on a “binge day” made me laugh. I’m very much an intuitive eater now, especially since my medical condition and medications make me crave foods that are beneficial for me (my body is still pretty rubbish at identifying the best sources for things it needs though. No one needs to be given themselves insane stomach aches eating Indian lime pickle with a spoon because their liver function tests are starting to go wonky and their body knows lime helps with this slightly! 😂😂) I do find I crave things like steak when I’m slightly anaemic, cheese when I’m on prednisolone and need calcium supplements etc. The one part I found the funniest was moving from the U.K. to Texas and literally dreaming about salad leaves and fruit after two weeks of take out and predominately white foods. 😂 I have to be careful to stick to safe foods when I’m flaring - this has resulted in me finding workarounds, like roasted veggies (I eat them like candy!) when I can’t physically eat them in any other form. (I think roasting them makes them easier to digest somehow). I also roast canned chickpeas with seasonings when I’m craving nuts, since they usually cause me an issue) Another good ‘hack’ I found was to mix fortified organic baby food fruit sachets with natural yoghurt to make nutrient dense smoothies if I’m flaring too much to eat normal fruits with pips and seeds in them. It’s amazing how the body tends to know what it wants if you just listen to it. IBD is very unique in that what’s a safe food for one person can be totally off the table for another -my baby brother also had Crohn’s but couldn’t drink hot tea with milk (A2 milk is awesome!!) at all whereas it’s my ultimate safe food and I use it as a barometer for it I need to go to the hospital or not! On the flip side he could eat steak all day every day whereas I struggle with any meat fibres (pork especially, but steak too) unless they’ve been processed into something easier to digest. My son was born in Texas so for many years I’d bring back Idahoan potato sachets. They are a super safe food for me in spite of being super processed. Plus the high salt levels are good since I tend to need more salt than the average person does. (I favour salty cheeses like halloumi or feta along with olives etc) but I did a happy dance the day flavoured instant Idahoan potatoes arrived in U.K. supermarkets! Haha. Thanks for making some really good points in this video! 👍

Recently I've been learning that it's OK to stop eating when I'm full, even if I've only finished less than half of what was on the plate.
On the plus side, I often get two meals for the price of one when ordering out! The portion sizes in the average restaurant in the US is just way too big for me

Wish I was allowed to eat intuitively. Unfortunately my parents think im too thin and make me eat every single bite on my plate, or they ban me from sports. I once became severely underweight due to illness, went to the doctors and they told me to either ‘EAt mOrE MCdonaLDs’ or go to an ED clinic to gain weight. Tried and failed to gain weight the McDonald’s way, so went to the ED clinic and it was an absolute nightmare. They ignored that I was lactose intolerant, and forced me to drink 3 big glasses of milk every single day. Constant pain for nearly 10 months which was ignored because they thought (based on my weight alone) I had an ED, until a new doctor finally told me I could stop. I don’t have an ED btw and never have had one, thank goodness. They only said I had one because after I gained the weight back, I was still too thin according to them (my entire family is skinny too so it’s genetics) and they constantly shamed me because of my size. When people who are overweight/obese (for their body) post a video on TikTok, the comments are like ‘yay queen! You’re so beautiful’. Yet when someone who is considered skinny posts a Tiktok it’s ‘Im NEveR EatING AgaIN, you’re making me insecure’. Yet no one talks about it, or they tell us we’re ‘straight sized’ (which is a lie because it’s difficult to find clothes that actually fit us). It’s so annoying

I want to lose a little bit of fat, I eat very balanced, non restrictive meals & snacks, do a mixture of training like resistance/weights, little bit of hiit, walks and swimming. I feel that over all my health and fitness regime is pretty balanced & fits in with most of the advice you give on your channel.
In order to reach my more ascetic based goals I do want to lose a bit of fat from my body, meaning I need to go into a slight calorie deficit. I want to avoid metabolic adaptation & don’t want to damage my metabolism in anyway. There is soooooo much information & misinformation out there on calorie cutting, it’s hard to figure out what the best way is.
The ways I think I will go about it’s is to calorie cycle. Eating in a deficit for 2 weeks and eating at maintenance for 2 weeks. I got this information from youtuber MissFitAndNerdy in her video “Lose Weight Without Tracking Macros | Four Simple Steps”. My deficit would be just making one of my meals smaller, most likely dinner & cutting out one snack. I think this way I won’t feel restricted & won’t be missing out on eating at any particular time.
I’d really appreciate getting some advice her in the comments, do you guys think this sounds like a healthy, maintainable & non restrictive way to lose fat, while maintaining muscle mass (to a certain extent) & not damaging my metabolism??
Also I’d love to hear your opinion on MissFitAndNerdy.
