We had a 91 cavilar 4cyl that ran for 27 miles after it blew the head gasket and threw a rod and whole piston out of the block. Held it wide open and used the clutch to keep it running at lights and stop signed. And it was still doing reverse doughnuts when it went to the scrap yard.
@@michaelhungate7506couldn’t have been the exotic 2.2 because they started producing them in 99 but yes very reliable after you update the timing chain oiler. My dad had a 2004 Saturn ion he bought new he drove that fucker 450k miles it went through one timing set (a lot of ignition modules) and the ORIGINAL clutch it was gonna be my car until a Deer decided to become a pancake
Those 2.3s were as legendary at being tough as they were weak. That's an incredible amount of abuse even though it was kind of helped along. Still the basic toughness of the engine is not in doubt.
Instant favorite for me since you towed the engine after it wouldn't run on its own! Thing was literally kicking & screaming at 8:17! And that piston blastoff was spectacular!
When assembled years ago, no one knew that piston and rod would achieve a flight altitude of over 20 feet in the sky....... beautiful. Once installed, internal engine components can assume they'll never see the light of day again.......let alone unassisted flight and internet fame😂 Btw, killing a 2.3l like that takes skills, congrats.
So many of our projects have this type of thinking attached to it. No one knew that piston would fly. No one knew the jeep would do a wheelie. The Cadillac become a legendary rally race car. Or my random 350 engine block would be used as a wrecking ball to decimate what was left of my sister's car.
Facebook marketplace be like, Rare well kept ford ranger, it was my grandfathers truck. $5600 runs great saves on gas. Super reliable and all highway miles. I will not respond to “is this still available” or I will block you. No low ballers. No joy rides or test drives. Bring me cash and drive it away.
That was the most hilarious thing I’ve ever seen. That piston just flying out the block with flames and sparks 🔥 . Bloody awesome. I laughed so hard at that guys. Just Brutal destruction. Loved this guys.🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣👍😉 Subscribed 😉👍 👍👍👍👍👍THUMBS UP👍👍👍👍👍 Anthony, United Kingdom
The 2.5 (same engine as tye old 2.3) in my '99 Ranger did that to cylinder 4. It dropped a valve, destroyed the piston. Took the head off and all that was there was the rod. Chuncks of piston in the oil pan.
Nope🤣 woulda been smart. If we ever do this again it would have to be a carbureted engine. This is the second time we've done this now and both times it ran decent for a few minutes then the computer just started doing wacky things
@@japhethbonnema and that's just time and wear happening to it and time was not nice to that one. Though it happens but give the chance to build it better tho.
I want to do something like this except use a second engine coupled to the first, that way once the dying engine tries to seize, the second engine forcibly runs the dying engine until all pistons fly out.
That piston launch was just beautiful
Just like Colin Furze's Alfa
❤❤❤❤ WOW 🎉
"I am free!" as it launches and leaves that engine. NO more pain my guy, no more.
Definitely one of the most iconic piston launches ever. You could put that on a billboard.
Man that piston firing up into the air was beautiful, i needed that today

The ecotech 2 2? Another very tough engine.

Oh shit you sent that piston to a low earth orbit 😂😂😂
Expecting a call from Elon musk to invite me to join space X. Any minute now surely...

I got another video with a compilation of a lot of abuse we gave her
I saw a video of one in a Mustang with a 2 stage dry nitrous kit (300hp worth) and it lived 3 hits
That piston and rod shot out of there so perfectly! Let's get that in slow mo next time 🤣
This is a masterpiece. That piston taking flight made my day
I am at a loss for words, this was the funniest and most inspiring video I have seen in a while
"Where we're going, we don't need pistons!"
😂😂 next door neighbors at 3 am be like
Wow! You managed to replicate Colin furze piston take off experiment with the same method! Good entertainment guys!
Gotta give credit to the OG
Instant favorite for me since you towed the engine after it wouldn't run on its own! Thing was literally kicking & screaming at 8:17! And that piston blastoff was spectacular!
Piston 2 was like "ight, ima head out"
the 2.3 is such a good engine though, RIP to that inline 4.
Huge compilation in the works.. she's been through it all
It literally ate and chewed up one of it's own pistons internally and kept spinning.. I will say that's is very, very impressive engine quality..
@@japhethbonnemayou should rebuild it

OMG that was the most epic piston launch ever LOL
Haha this is like the young gasser version of zipties and bias plys channel😂🙃
That flying piston was just awesome! I'm surprised it didn't go into orbit!

Number 2 piston: I identify as a rocket now
You absolutely made my day with that piston launch!!!!😂😂
Well done gents! Piston launch was magnificent as was the overall burn-down without it even running.
Best piston flyjng video ever
We will rebuild
Products of boredom with dutiful perseverance 🇺🇸
Jesus Christ I've never seen a piston blow up with no head 😂 beautiful

Nothing a machine shop could not skim. Put in oversize bearing and piston rings, and your good to go.

The Fricken connecting rod end cap was glowing in the air!!!! 😮😮
Tell that to levi. He's colorblind and still doesn't believe me
@@japhethbonnema Hey its clear as day on that slow mo, you can even frame by frame it, that thing is emitting light 🤣
8:39 i know the problem with it, it has no gas in it
Gotta make some art out of that piston. It has an unbelievable story behind it. That was awesome
We still got it! On the display shelf for now but yes we gotta think of something
8:38 wow that piston launch!
I subbed
best fire crackers I've ever seen on a 4 of july, f..k !!! what an ending!!!. magnificent video, aloha man
You guys are absolutely amazing keep these videos up
Awsome! You really gave it hell.
Best piston launch I've ever seen
if "Diding diding diding Engine Gabutt" needed a visualization, this video would be it XD
Those little 2.3s are pretty stout. I dropped a valve hooning and drove it home 4 miles on 3 cylinders
This deserves way more views lol! Esp. that piston making a proper exit.
Huge thanks
How does this not have a million views yet?
It is because I forgot to pause the video right before it blew up to tell people to like subscribe and smash that like button and buy my t-shirt 😭

That was rad!!!🤟
Well when The piston won't come out, you make it come out the hard way wether it wants to or not!
8:38 AWESOME!!!! Why am I watching engine blow-up videos? HAHA
3:26 man it sounded as it was runing on one piston, its was sounding like a boat
That’s the type of rot box that always has a recent bill of sale so u can drive on the road for a couple days haha
Underrated comment and it ain't even rated yet
Houston we have take off!
Image the reaction of someone finding a piston laying in the middle of the road.... That was spectacular! That'll fit well in a meme somewhere.
Great video guys looked like a blast!!!
4:37 POV dads weed waker
commander we have Lift off!!!
When I thought it was over, you spin the engine without the head.
That was EPIC
definitely one of the most brutal destruction of a car/engine ive seen on youtube gawd damn
We try our best 🥰
Beautiful
That was excellent
Geez that engine was probably as broken as you could ever break an engine!
Did you plug off the oil passage on the crank for the missing rod? It'll keep the oil pressure up for the other cylinders
Nope🤣 woulda been smart. If we ever do this again it would have to be a carbureted engine. This is the second time we've done this now and both times it ran decent for a few minutes then the computer just started doing wacky things

Next time, maybe it could make it to low earth orbit.
Punchouts piston Honda would be proud first launch of a engine part to the moon

New space organization FASA launched a Pistronaut into orbit.....lol
Don't underestimate any I 4 motor. I have a 2.2 eccotec in my 02 cavalier. No check engine light and it still runs tits
