Historically, the comfort-women issue is one of the reasons why Korea, and China, among other Asian countries, still have hostile feelings toward to Japan. But we believe that it’s in everyone’s best interest that this issue gets resolved as soon as possible so that we can move forward and work together to solve bigger problems.

@@San37815 you're right that they don't neccesary define the army of today, however, trying to just "move on" is what the jp government has literally been doing since, and it's not working. To move on there needs to reconciliation to ease tensions. There hasn't yet.

Damn, I am Chinese and my grandma used to tell me scary story about the Japanese army invaded our village when my grandma still a little girl. My great grandmother had to shave all of the girls hair in order to let the Japanese soldier believe they are boys not girls.

I am not good at English. I'm sorry about that point.
I don't want to fight with the far right Japanese.
The far right Japanese say "South Koreans, Chinese etc. are a liars", "Japan military sexual slavery is a prostitute". It hurts me. So I don't want to talk anymore.
Some Japanese friends admit this and feel sorry. It really matters to us. The horrors of the Japanese military in Korea, China, Indonesia, Taiwanese, Philippines and Vietnam etc. should be judged by the keywords below. I am not going to reply any more. If you want to see the remaining historical material, please search it. It's up to you to judge.
I know Japanese chief cabinet secretary Kono and some prime minister have apologized and tried to solve this problem. However, it is a matter of consistency and attitude. Japan's attitude changed whenever the Liberal Democratic Party politicians took power in Japan. Also, it still does not teach relevant history to Japanese children, and Japanese media ridicule Korea day after day. In addition, there is a separate "Korea hate section" in bookstores in Japan. Some Japanese saying "Japan military sexual slavery is the prostitute" in street parade.
Of course, there were bad humans in Korea, and there may be cases where girls were abused. You want to believe it was mainstream? why don't you blame the Japanese army for their terrible deeds? Even after watching these videos, you don't blame the Japanese army until the end.
And this issue should be approached as a matter of human rights ethics. I understand your love for your country because you are in Japan. However, they should admit and apologize so that such things will not happen again in the future. That's justice. The small material you bring is a small fragment of 35 years of sad history.
In fact, it's natural for them to be rewarded. Because Japanese soldiers can't make them 14-year-old girls again. But they prioritize consistent apologies from the Japanese government before compensation. So '2015, the Japanese military sexual slavery agreement' refused. Because what is more important than compensation is the consistent apology and attitude of the Japanese government. North Korea also has the Japanese military sexual slavery survivor. She says needs the Japanese government compensation, not the private fund. That means first a proper apology from the Japanese government is needed. I'm sorry that there are no English subtitles.
Of course the reason why they went there is also important.
Any Korean adoptive father or anybody Korean who did wrong should be blamed in history. All of them. But only, Japanese accusations do not include the atrocities of the Japanese army. That makes me angry. Should I find more Japanese atrocities and show them? And do you affirm that there was no "human trafficking" or "false recruitment" of the Japanese army?

I also want to apologize to my Vietnamese friends as a Korean. For the first time in school, I heard In detail about the Korean army in the Vietnam War from my teacher. Since then, I have learned the horrors of the Vietnam War more deeply through many Korean media. Moon Jae-in, Roh Moo-hyun and Kim Dae-jung conveyed the mind of apology to Vietnam. but this is not enough. Victims should be prioritized. The Vietnam War is a battle in which Koreans participated in the war between the United States and Vietnam. Most Koreans acknowledge and apologize for the atrocities the Korean military committed in the Vietnam War. There are far-right groups in any country. They speak of the honor of the Korean military first about the Vietnam War. Of course, we cannot hate the Korean troops who participated in the war from the perspective of Koreans. But if they are bad for women and children's civilians, it should of course apologize and compensate. It's a separate matter. There are also people in Korea who naturally have opposing opinions. But the mainstream thinking that society is pursuing exists. I think most Korean thinking should apologize for the atrocities of the Vietnam War, and that is the universal values and lessons that mankind has to pursue through war.

[Diary written by Korean worker at comfort stations in Burma, Singapore found]
The diary written by a Korean man working at wartime brothels in Burma, which has been found in South Korea.
SEOUL -- A diary written by a Korean man working at wartime brothels in Burma (current Myanmar) and Singapore during World War II has recently been found, a discovery that could shed light on the truth behind the role of the Imperial Japanese Army in controversial comfort stations for Japanese soldiers.
The Korean man took part in the "4th comfort corps" that left Busan Port on the Korean Peninsula in 1942. He returned home in late 1944. His diary is the first of its kind found in Japan, South Korea and elsewhere. On the issue of so-called "comfort women" for the Imperial Japanese Army during the war, many of the testimonies were made several decades after the end of the war. The diary written by the Korean man -- a third person who had actually witnessed wartime brothels -- is important material to pave the way for cool-headed discussions on the thorny issue.
The diary was discovered by Ahn Byong Jik, professor emeritus at Seoul University, who specializes in modern Korean economic history and is knowledgeable about the comfort women issue. A museum in the suburbs of Seoul found a diary and other materials at a second-hand bookshop about 10 years ago. Ahn found the diary while combing through the materials.
The diary was written by the man from Kyongsang-namdo on the western part of the Korean Peninsula while working at the wartime brothels from 1943 to 1944. It was written in Chinese characters, katakana and Korean alphabets.
The man was born in 1905 and died in 1979. His diary written from 1922 to 1957 can be seen today.
In the diary, the man wrote on July 10, 1943, "At this time last year, I boarded a ship at Busan Wharf and took a first step on the southbound trip." On April 6, 1944, he wrote, "When a comfort squad left Busan two years ago, Mr. Tsumura who came as the head of the fourth comfort corps was working (in a market)."
A research report compiled in November 1945 by U.S. soldiers who questioned managers of comfort stations caught in Burma says that 703 comfort women and about 90 business operators left Busan Port on July 10, 1942. The accuracy of his diary is backed up by the fact that the date of their departure is the same.
Ahn says, "It is certain that the records compiled by the U.S. military refer to the fourth comfort corps." As opposed to the view generally held in South Korea that comfort women were forcibly conscripted by Japanese military and police, Ahn says, "Comfort women were recruited by business operators in Korea, and there was no need for the military to abduct them."
In the diary, the man touched on relationships between comfort stations, comfort women and the military. He wrote on July 19, 1943, "Two comfort stations that belong to a flying corps were handed over to the logistics command." On July 29, 1943, he wrote, "I've heard that Haruyo and Hiroko who had left (a comfort station) to have conjugal relations (with their husbands) returned to Kinseikan as comfort women again."
The Korean man also wrote in his diary on Aug. 13, 1943, "Comfort women went to see a movie, saying that the railway corps will run a movie." He wrote on Oct. 27, 1944, "I was asked by a comfort woman to remit 600 yen, so I withdrew her deposit and sent it from a central post office.”
The diary author himself earned 43,000 yen in two years’ time-an enormous sum when one considers the average monthly worker’s salary during that period of time was just 40 yen. The author managed an orchard after returning home, and also served on the board of a private elementary school.

This is a malicious fiction by Koreans.
In Japan, there is a historian named Yoshiaki Yoshimi, who is famous for defending comfort women. However, even he could not defend her testimony. His articles can be read by searching for "吉見 義明 金福童" in the Chuo University Academic Information Repository.
In an attempt to somehow defend her, he created a false image of a woman who acted according to the historical chronology while denying her testimony. But, of course, that false image has nothing to do with the content of her actual testimony.

(1) The contents of this person's testimony and the actual deployment of the Japanese military unit are completely different. (2) At the age of 14, she could not register to engage in such work at the police station during the document examination stage. (3) Japan began recruiting female workers and student soldiers on the Korean Peninsula toward the end of the war, and she should not have experienced this when she left Korea in 1941. (4) If the story that Japanese soldiers abducted many women in Korea is true, a large amount of historical data on this matter should be found. However, Korean historians have not been able to find any evidence to substantiate this, despite their exhaustive search. If such a thing existed, the RUclips comments section would be filled with posts about that kind of evidence.

It’s not your fault. Sure, your country made terrible decisions but you shouldn’t have to pay for it. The only way for you to apologize is to keep an open mind about what happen and educate those around to to not believe the lies of the past. To be honest, I’m very fond of Japan even after watching this video. I’ve always knew about this as I was growing up so this really didn’t bother me much.

I think you're both right and wrong. Calling her a despicable woman is taking it a little too far. Try to consider the pain and trauma she has experienced as well. Although she may say she just wants an "apology" (I am aware of the facts you have stated about all of Japan's apologies), she's been through something horrible. But yes, I must agree that rebelling in the sense of rejecting apology letters and funds is quite stubborn and rude. She shouldn't lie by saying that Japan hasn't apologized, however, I believe that she has the right to be angry for they took something away from her that she never would've been able to take back.
@@yazinxi5639 They should have invited these women to Japan (all expenses paid) and the Japanese Prime Minister should have shaken each of their hands in front of the world's press whilst apologising and then handed them a signed formally written individual apology letter together with a financial sum which would have made them extremely comfortable for the rest of their lives.
He should then have made a speech saying these women were entirely innocent of blame, that this was a shameful event in Japan's history that would never be repeated. He should also have called out for blame the individual ministers at the time who set up such disgraceful acts and publicly shamed them.
That's the ABSOLUTE MINIMUM that should have been done after what Japan did to them. I suspect that the reason she was upset about their attempts was that it was very clear the Japanese Government was just "going through the motions"...

Probe finds gross misappropriation of funds at care facility for Korean camp follower

A large portion of public donations, meant to be used for Korean camp followers in the WWII, was found to have been set aside for other purposes, including buying land, a probe team said Tuesday.
The House of Sharing, a shelter for the victims in Gwangju, Gyeonggi Province, collected approximately 8.8 billion won ($7.43 million) in public donations from 2015-2019, Song Ki-chun, the head of the probe team, said.
Of the total donations, only 200 million won, or 2.3 percent, has been used to cover the living expenses of the Korean camp followers, the team found, adding the rest was used to buy land to build memorial centers, parks and facilities or earmarked for future construction.
The shelter is the house of five elderly "camp followers," who worked at brothels during World War II.
"The process (of raising funds) remained largely murky, with the total sum (of the funds) and its usage not being properly made public," Song said during a press conference held at the office of the Gyeonggi government in Suwon, south of Seoul.
Last month, the team, comprising public officials and civic experts, conducted the probe into the alleged mismanagement of the shelter in four major categories -- facility management, book keeping, human rights and historical value.
Song, a law professor at JeonBuk National University, also pointed out that the shelter failed to report to the Ministry of Interior and Safety about donations more than 10 million won, as required by the local law.
The team also found evidence of verbal abuse by caregivers toward some ailing victims who have difficulty in talking and moving around. The average age of the five victims is 95.
Song suggested the forming of a consultative body made up of public and civic experts to address the issues and urged the local governments to help execute measures suggested by the body.
In May, the decadeslong South Korean civic movement to shed light on the Korean camp followers became embroiled in controversy when Lee Yong-soo, one of the 17 South Korean surviving victims, publicly accused a civic group of mistreatment and misuse of public funds.

Abstract
The protracted political dispute between South Korea and Japan over the wartime brothels called "comfort stations" obscures the contractual dynamics involved. These dynamics reflected the straightforward logic of the "credible commitments" so basic to elementary game theory. The brothel owners and potential prostitutes faced a problem: the brothel needed credibly to commit to a contractual structure (i) generous enough to offset the dangers and reputational damage to the prostitute that the job entailed, while (ii) giving the prostitute an incentive to exert effort while working at a harsh job in an unobservable environment.
Realizing that the brothel owners had an incentive to exaggerate their future earnings, the women demanded a large portion of their pay upfront. Realizing that they were headed to the war zone, they demanded a relatively short maximum term. And realizing that the women had an incentive to shirk, the brothel owners demanded a contractual structure that gave women incentives to work hard. To satisfy these superficially contradictory demands, the women and brothels concluded indenture contracts that coupled (i) a large advance with one- or two-year maximum terms, with (ii) an ability for the women to leave early if they generated sufficient revenue.

There is no evidence in Japan, Korea, or the United States that there was a 14-year-old comfort woman. According to a survey by the US military, the average age of comfort women is 20 to 21 year old. The group that supports them is a group called "한국 정신대 문제 대책 협의회". "정신대" is a factory worker, not a comfort woman. The group seems to have comfort women change their testimony to suit their claims. Comfort women change their testimony content frequently. This "age problem" is one of them.
And if a Japanese soldier actually abducted a Korean woman, then a massive riot would surely have occurred. As you know, that is the temperament of Koreans.
By the way, it is unclear whether the women who claim to have been comfort women were truly comfort women.

But when i go back to japan and ask if any one of my friends know about anthing that japanese did to other asian country such as korea, china, or singapore, they just laughs at me and says 'that's not right, infact we the one who suffered because of the nuclear bomb'. @Linseed I was granted an scholarship by China when I was young. I'm not against China and favour Japan. In fact, as political regimens both (plus Korea) are lacking, restraining and distorted. They blended wrong Confucianism with everything else on purpose to get those extremely huge and corrupt States. Politically I dislike them three, but culturally (traditionally) and their regular people, I love them all, and are my favourite culture entities (that's why I applied for the chinese scholarship to begin with). A senior judge overseeing the criminal case against Rep. Yoon Mee-hyang, the former head of the Korean Council accused of embezzling public donations meant for wartime sexual slavery victims, died suddenly on Tuesday just ahead of the first trial, Seoul police said Wednesday.
Lee Dae-yeon, a 54-year-old senior judge on the Seoul Western District Court, was found dead around 9:45 p.m. Tuesday night, Gangnam police said. He had collapsed in the restroom of a building in Samseong-dong in Gangnam District, southern Seoul, in the midst of a dinner with a group of fellow judges at a nearby restaurant.
Emergency responders performed CPR on Lee, who was then transferred to a nearby general hospital where he was pronounced dead at 11:20 p.m.

This report is based on the information obtained from the interrogation of twenty Korean "comfort girls" and two Japanese civilians captured around the tenth of August, 1944 in the mopping up operations after the fall of Myitkyin a in Burma.

The report shows how the Japanese recruited these Korean "comfort girls", the conditions under which they lived and worked, their relations with and reaction to the Japanese soldier, and their understanding of the military situation.
A "comfort girl" is nothing more than a prostitute or "professional camp follower"
The interrogations show the average Korean "comfort girl" to be about twenty-five years old, uneducated, childish, and selfish. She is not pretty either by Japanese of Caucasian standards.
In Myitkyina the girls were usually quartered in a large two story house (usually a school building) with a separate room for each girl. There each girl lived, slept, and transacted business. In Myitkina their food was prepared by and purchased from the "house master" as they received no regular ration from the Japanese Army. They lived in near-luxury in Burma in comparison to other places. This was especially true of their second year in Burma. They lived well because their food and material was not heavily rationed and they had plenty of money with which to purchase desired articles. They were able to buy cloth, shoes, cigarettes, and cosmetics to supplement the many gifts given to them by soldiers who had received "comfort bags" from home.
While in Burma they amused themselves by participating in sports events with both officers and men, and attended picnics, entertainments, and social dinners. They had a phonograph and in the towns they were allowed to go shopping.
The girls were allowed the prerogative of refusing a customer.
In the latter part of 1943 the Army issued orders that certain girls who had paid their debt could return home. Some of the girls were thus allowed to return to Korea.

Japan preaches peace these days, but to truly reach peace, they need to apologize to the people that have been hurt.

Her life was taken at 14. When she came home she felt like a burden, she couldn't talk to anyone and had to pretend everything was normal. She said she didn't want to marry because it was unfair to any husband she might have. She lived her life alone with no children, no grandchildren because she felt worthless.

SEOUL--A South Korean citizens group that has criticized Japan for decades over the “comfort women (war prostitutes in the WW2) ” issue now finds itself accused of misappropriating donations that were intended for the wartime victims.
The Seoul-based Korean Council for Justice and Remembrance for the Issues of Military Sexual Slavery by Japan has denied any wrongdoing, but the scandal shows no signs of relenting.
News media in South Korea have generally shown a reluctance to criticize organizations that support former “comfort women,(camp follower)” a euphemism for women who were forced to provide sex to Japanese troops before and during World War II.
But one of these women, Lee Yong-su, 91, opened a can of worms on May 7 by publicly saying that money donated to the council has “not been spent” for the survivors as promised.
“I have been taken advantage of by (the group),” Lee said at a news conference.
She also urged the organization to cancel its weekly protest rally, which has been held every Wednesday near the Japanese Embassy in Seoul since 1992, because it “does young people harm.”
South Korean newspapers and TV broadcasts are now flooded with reports about suspicious money transactions involving Yoon Mee-hyang, the former head of the organization.
Yoon ran as ruling party-affiliated candidate in the April general election and won a seat in the National Assembly.
Lee, one of the plaintiffs who have sued the Japanese government for compensation over their suffering during Japan’s 1910-45 colonization of the Korean Peninsula, was reportedly against Yoon’s foray into politics.
The Korean council has opposed the Asian Women’s Fund that the Japanese government established in 1995 to send redress money to former comfort women.
The group also criticized the 2015 Japan-South Korea bilateral agreement on settling the comfort women issue on grounds that it does not acknowledge the Japanese government’s legal responsibility.
But the conservative newspaper Chosun Ilbo, in its May 9 editorial, criticized the advocacy group for “shifting its focus from ‘solving problems’ to ‘keeping problems’ at a certain point and pursuing narrow interests.”

S. Korea's Top Court Reverses Ruling against Comfort Women Book Author
South Korea's top court on Thursday overturned a lower court ruling that found the author of a book on so-called comfort women guilty of defamation.
The Supreme Court sent the case back to the Seoul High Court, while indicating its intention to acquit the author, Park Yu-ha, honorary professor at Sejong University in South Korea.
In June 2014, former comfort women and others filed a criminal complaint against Park, saying that some statements in her book "Comfort Women of the Empire" had harmed their reputations.
In the book, first published in August 2013, Park said that comfort women, or those who worked as prostitutes for Japanese troops before and during World War II, had a comrade-like relationship with the Japanese side.
In November 2015, prosecutors indicted Park, arguing that she had severely damaged the public reputation of former comfort women and deviated from academic freedom. Meanwhile, some intellectuals in Japan and South Korea criticized the indictment as a violation of academic freedom.

Politically, countries don't admit their wrongdoings so they don't have to be held accountable for the crimes. A diary written by a Korean comfort station manager was discovered in 2013, and it makes it clear that Korean businessmen not only recruited Korean women but also owned and operated comfort stations. The diary contains the detailed account of Korean owners wire transferring huge profit they made from operating comfort stations.
Comfort station operators were non-military civilians. Monthly reports by local Japanese consul generals in various Chinese cities identify comfort station operators with Korean comfort women as Korean. No Japanese-operated comfort station was reported with Korean women. The comfort stations were civilian-operated businesses.
The diary author himself earned 43,000 yen in two years’ time-an enormous sum when one considers the average monthly worker’s salary during that period of time was just 40 yen. The author managed an orchard after returning home, and also served on the board of a private elementary school.

The author of this story has not researched the timing or content of Japan's policies on the Korean peninsula. Nor has he investigated where the Japanese units that appear in the testimony were actually sent. So the content of the testimony differed greatly from actual history. The testimony of a woman who was actually a comfort woman is worth listening to. However, since her testimony differs from actual history, her testimony is of no value in elucidating the reality of comfort women.

I am not good at English. I'm sorry about that point.
I know Japanese chief cabinet secretary Kono and some prime minister have apologized and tried to solve this problem. However, it is a matter of consistency and attitude. Japan's attitude changed whenever the Liberal Democratic Party politicians took power in Japan. Also, it still does not teach relevant history to Japanese children, and Japanese media ridicule Korea day after day. In addition, there is a separate "Korea hate section" in bookstores in Japan. Some Japanese saying "Japan military sexual slavery is the prostitute" in street parade.
Of course, there were bad humans in Korea, and there may be cases where girls were abused. You want to believe it was mainstream? why don't you blame the Japanese army for their terrible deeds? Even after watching these videos, you don't blame the Japanese army until the end.
And this issue should be approached as a matter of human rights ethics. I understand your love for your country because you are in Japan. However, they should admit and apologize so that such things will not happen again in the future. That's justice. The small material you bring is a small fragment of 35 years of sad history.
In fact, it's natural for them to be rewarded. Because Japanese soldiers can't make them 14-year-old girls again. But they prioritize consistent apologies from the Japanese government before compensation. So '2015, the Japanese military sexual slavery agreement' refused. Because what is more important than compensation is the consistent apology and attitude of the Japanese government. North Korea also has the Japanese military sexual slavery survivor. She says needs the Japanese government compensation, not the private fund. That means first a proper apology from the Japanese government is needed. I'm sorry that there are no English subtitles.
Of course the reason why they went there is also important.
Any Korean adoptive father or anybody Korean who did wrong should be blamed in history. All of them. But only, Japanese accusations do not include the atrocities of the Japanese army. That makes me angry. Should I find more Japanese atrocities and show them? And do you affirm that there was no "human trafficking" or "false recruitment" of the Japanese army?

I also want to apologize to my Vietnamese friends as a Korean. For the first time in school, I heard In detail about the Korean army in the Vietnam War from my teacher. Moon Jae-in, Roh Moo-hyun and Kim Dae-jung conveyed the mind of apology to Vietnam. but this is not enough. Victims should be prioritized. The Vietnam War is a battle in which Koreans participated in the war between the United States and Vietnam. But if they are bad for women and children's civilians, it should of course apologize and compensate. It's a separate matter. There are also people in Korea who naturally have opposing opinions. But the mainstream thinking that society is pursuing exists. I think most Korean thinking should apologize for the atrocities of the Vietnam War, and that is the universal values and lessons that mankind has to pursue through war.

As of 2007 following money was donated by the Japanese PRIVATE organization.(BBC NEWS 10th/April 2007). From 2007 till 2018 much bigger money was donated to all war prostitutes from the Japanese PRIVATE organization.

But they prioritize consistent apologies from the Japanese government before compensation. So '2015, the Japanese military sexual slavery agreement' refused. Because what is more important than compensation is the consistent apology and attitude of the Japanese government. North Korea also has the Japanese military sexual slavery survivor. She says needs the Japanese government compensation, not the private fund. That means first a proper apology from the Japanese government is needed. I'm sorry that there are no English subtitles.
Of course the reason why they went there is also important.
Any Korean adoptive father or anybody Korean who did wrong should be blamed in history. All of them. But only, Japanese accusations do not include the atrocities of the Japanese army. 【Comfort Women: The North Korean Connection】
Through its "comfort women" framework, the World War II Japanese military extended its licensing regime for domestic prostitution to the brothels next to its overseas bases. That regime imposed strenuous health standards, which the military needed to control the venereal disease that had debilitated its troops in earlier wars. These "comfort stations" recruited their prostitutes (we limit this article to women recruited from Korea and Japan) through variations on the standard indenture contracts that the licensed brothels had used in Korea and Japan. Some women took the jobs because they were tricked by fraudulent recruiters. Some took them under pressure from abusive parents. But the rest seem to have taken the jobs for the money.
The notion that the comfort stations were anything else dates from the 1980s. In 1983, a Japanese writer published a memoir in which he claimed to have led a posse of soldiers to Korea and conscripted women at bayonet-point. Soon, several women sued the Japanese government for compensation. The government apologized (the Kono statement), and the U.N. issued two scathing reports.
In fact, the Japanese author had made up the story. By the end of the century, historians and journalists (in both Japan and South Korea) had determined that he had fabricated the entire memoir. In the meantime, however, an apparently corrupt organization (its leader is currently on trial for embezzlement) with close ties to North Korea (the leader's husband served prison time for passing documents to a North Korean agent) took control of the comfort-women movement. Steadily, it inflamed the ethno-nationalism within South Korea and stalled rapprochement with Japan.
All this took place while North Korea steadily developed its nuclear weapons arsenal. Given the close ties between North Korea and the organization running the comfort women movement, that may be the point. Under pressure from the South Korean left, however, the government continues to launch criminal prosecutions against scholars who point out the genesis of the movement in the fabricated memoir. Readers in the Anglophone world need to realize that scholars who contest the fabricated comfort women story in South Korea face potential prison time for doing so.

A 14 - year - old girl can not be a comfort woman. It does not pass through the document examination by the Japanese military. "韓国挺身隊問題対策協議会" tried to forcely adapt the recruitment age of factory workers to the recruitment age of comfort women. {挺身隊 are factory workers.} So 14 years old and 12 years old comfort women are not mentioned at all in history materials of the world including Korea.

Please let me share the issues of the current slavery working conditions for LEGAL immigrant workers in Japan. Here are some horrible examples and statics that reported.
•Over 85% immigrant workers under “Foreign Skills Training Program (外国人技能研修制度)” are working for less than minimum wage.
•More than 100 labours under the program committed suicide past 5 years.
•A lady from Myanmar worked 100hours per WEEK and received only 60,000 yen per MONTH(600USD). She described herself as a slaver.
•A lady from Vietnam was ordered to have an abortion or cut her contract.
This is happening in 2018. Japan hasn’t learnt that people from Asian countries have human rights that must be respected as much as theirs citizens. As one Japanese, I really feel sorry and guilty for those who were abused during the war and for those who are struggling in Japan.
I just want this to be known by as much as people over the world so that foreign media realise this problem and start criticising. Government and media here are collapsed. People’s voice can hardly change them.

I believe there is something inherently offensive and horrifying in calling these abused, tortured women "comfort women". We should not associate a positive feeling such as comfort to violence and abuse. And it's scary to believe that violating someone without their consent, torturing others, may "comfort" someone. They were also victims of war and sexual abuse but the name "comfort women" draw awareness to the fact that their abuse came from providing sexual service (or "comfort") to Japanese soldiers during this period. The name "comfort women" is as equally important in raising awareness as the story itself.

This report is based on the information obtained from the interrogation of twenty Korean "comfort girls" and two Japanese civilians captured around the tenth of August, 1944 in the mopping up operations after the fall of Myitkyin a in Burma.

The interrogations show the average Korean "comfort girl" to be about twenty-five years old, uneducated, childish, and selfish. She is not pretty either by Japanese of Caucasian standards.
In Myitkyina the girls were usually quartered in a large two story house (usually a school building) with a separate room for each girl. There each girl lived, slept, and transacted business. In Myitkina their food was prepared by and purchased from the "house master" as they received no regular ration from the Japanese Army. They lived in near-luxury in Burma in comparison to other places. This was especially true of their second year in Burma. They lived well because their food and material was not heavily rationed and they had plenty of money with which to purchase desired articles. They were able to buy cloth, shoes, cigarettes, and cosmetics to supplement the many gifts given to them by soldiers who had received "comfort bags" from home.
While in Burma they amused themselves by participating in sports events with both officers and men, and attended picnics, entertainments, and social dinners. They had a phonograph and in the towns they were allowed to go shopping.
The girls were allowed the prerogative of refusing a customer.
In the latter part of 1943 the Army issued orders that certain girls who had paid their debt could return home. Some of the girls were thus allowed to return to Korea.

South Korea’s top prosecutor has ordered an investigation into financial fraud allegations made against a Pro-North Korean support group for “comfort women(camp followers in the WW2)” - a euphemism for those who were forced or coerced into Japan’s wartime brothel system under various circumstances, including abduction , deception by Korean men and being sold by their poor parents - a local newspaper reported.

“ I could sense that women were not happy being confined in this place. One of the women (Bae Chun-hee) told me she reminisced the romance she had with a Japanese soldier. She said she hated her father who sold her. She also told me that women there didn't appreciate being coached by Korean council (Comfort women’s organization) to give false testimonies but had to obey Korean council's order. When Japan offered compensation through Asian Women's Fund in 1995, 61 former Korean comfort women defied Korean council's order and accepted compensation. Those 61 women were vilified as traitors. Their names and addresses were published in newspapers as pros:titutes, and they had to live the rest of their lives in disgrace. So the rest of the women were terrified of Korean council and wouldn't dare to defy again. Korean council (some of its members were arrested as North Korean sp:ies) has used the comfort women issue for its political purpose, which is to drive a wedge into U.S.-Japan-South Korea security partnership.”

We hosted over 40 Japanese exchange students years ago in our Australian home and I had a great time with all of them. They were all kind and respectful. It wasn't until we were hosting two 16 year old students for 3 months that I found out the truth about their education. One girl was Japanese and one was German. It didn't come up immediately but eventually conversation did come up about WW2 after we watched a movie that touched on it. The German girl was horrified about the Japanese girl's lack of knowledge of things that the rest of the world knew. The two girls, both the same age, were a massive contrast of knowledge and information. It was the first time I realised how Japan has white-washed their brutal past. They need to learn it to avoid it happening again.

"The government and society must make all efforts for our country to be reborn as a place that is good for raising children," Lee told Nikkei Asia. "If we don't solve the problem of the low birthrate, South Korea will disappear."

There are very few Indonesian comfort women. Indonesian Japanese soldiers used private brothels run by Indonesians. The Japanese army is not involved in the management of those brothels. However, because sex diseases were prevalent in those brothels, the Japanese army dispatched comfort women from Japan.

When the Japanese army recruited local women, they asked the village head or mayor to collect prostitutes. Or the Japanese army hired a local prostitution broker. The proportion of comfort women is about 50% for Japanese, about 40% for Koreans and Taiwanese, and about 10% for other people. The Japanese army hired one comfort woman for 100 soldiers, so the total number of comfort women is around 30,000. The comfort women were highly paid and earned enough to buy a house in two months of labor. In other words, there was no need for Japanese soldiers to abduct women.
By the way, prostitutes are not military affiliation. At that time, there was no word "jugun ianfu".
Listening to this experience really takes everything out of you. How can men, thousands of men, think of women as nothing, absolutely nothing! Just a warm sack you can watch bleed. It’s horrible. I can’t imagine what it would feel like to have an entire queue of men lined up to use your body no matter how much pain or suffering you were in, to have to wake up to that nightmare everyday. Japan got away with so much during the war. I’m not saying what the US did was right, but Hiroshima turned a horrific regime into the victim.

A 14-year-old girl cannot work as a comfort woman. The reason is as follows.
Portrait of the person herself, copy of family register, pledge, consent form proving that the parent has agreed, permission issued by the police, identification card issued by the mayor. These documents were necessary for Koreans to work as comfort women. Comfort women have age restrictions. No permit will be issued for a 14 year old girl.
Comfort women were paid a high salary, and they were paid a salary that allowed them to buy a house just by working for about two months.
The job that the Japanese army was doing on the Korean Peninsula was only to check the documents submitted by the women hired by the prostitution brokers and arrange the transfer to the sexual comfort facility where they work.

apologies would mean the Japanese have to publicly admit to the crime of kidnapping these women and minors and forcing them into sex slavery. The lady in the video was only 14-15 years old at the time. She was a minor and they didn't care.

I don't want to fight with the far right Japanese.
The far right Japanese say "South Koreans, Chinese etc. are a liars", "Japan military sexual slavery is a prostitute". It hurts me. So I don't want to talk anymore.
Some Japanese friends admit this and feel sorry. It really matters to us. The horrors of the Japanese military in Korea, China, Indonesia, Taiwanese, Philippines and Vietnam etc. should be judged by the keywords below. I am not going to reply any more. I admire, respect and love her so much as a person for doing her part in sharing the most painful story of her life. God has finally healed and restored her completely.❤
