How to Build an Impressive Boat Dock | Valheim

  • In this video, I show you how to build an aesthetic boat dock on Valheim. The boat dock can fit a longship which is currently the largest ship in the game. Additionally, the supports are made completely of stone which removes the need to repair components that have been weakened by wet damage. The build also comprises of a boat house attached to the dock where you can place comfort items (including a hearth to remove the wet effect), portals, or a small storage area.

    This is a great build, i’m trying to make it slightly wider with the steps in the middle to allow 2 boats to dock. One boat for adventure in & the other as an emergency backup in case one sinks! Thanks for you detailed build 😊

    The dock is nice enough, BUT- Major warning- do NOT try to build the long roof on one of the dock arms if the water in area you're building is noticably affected during storms. High waves will rock your boat wildly and smash the mast against that roof till something breaks. Its the same problem Vetlive's boathouse looks good but in practice has issues.... Either keep both roofs only covering the dock to just short of the ships mast or build somewhere that doesnt get waves, like a river or rivermouth. Strongly suggest checking a potential rivermouth site during a storm before beginning construction if you want to build there to see if its protected or not in the specific spot you're interested in.

    • @phinqs
      @phinqs  Год назад +2

      This is probably solid advice - especially, if you are building next to deep water. I did think that the roof was quite close to the mast of the boat but I didn't personally have any issues!

    So you used the shutters as a dock gate at the steps then mentioned wood beams to park. I had a bit of a time in rough or sideways winds. I used a 2m where you put the wood beams on the inside with shutters attached so when you want to release the boat, you release it from the inside and you can pull right out. Then as just as you coast into port, put it to 2 sail, and hop off the seat, run up to the front of the longboat, and lock her in with the same shutters. Has worked wonders. Great video. Love the dock idea. Actually have used a few of yours in my most recent playthrough.

      It does require a good amount of resources but it's not ridiculous. The majority of the build relies purely on wood and stone. You can always utilise thatch roof and ordinary wood pieces until you have the resources for the higher-tier pieces!

      Good question. I saw someone use wood torches to create vertical bars along an open window. I thought that was a really creative way to give a similar effect to the darkwood dividers. If you do not like that idea, I would probably just leave them open windows for now.

    • @phinqs
      @phinqs  5 месяцев назад

      You can use regular wood too. The only reason that I use darkwood is taht it is not damaged by water. It just means that you will either have to accept the degraded look of damaged regular wood beams, or repair them regularly.

    • @phinqs
      @phinqs  Год назад

      These kind of snapping points are often because the level of the ground is slightly too high/low. I would adjust the level of the ground slightly with the hoe and then try again. Hope this helps!

    • @phinqs
      @phinqs  Год назад +1

      Good question. Whenever I have had problems getting them to snap into place, I have realised it is because of the height of the ground underneath. Try lowering the ground slightly and you should be able to get them to snap into place! Hope this helps.

    • @phinqs
      @phinqs  Год назад +1

      I am glad you managed to get it in the end. Typically, if you are having difficulty achieving that snap point, you can either use a wood beam to create a manual snap point or raise/lower the adjacent ground. Regarding your other point, I decided to use darkwood but a very similar looking building can be achieved using the regular wood beams and it will still look great. Thank you for your comments!
