      @phinqs I would also like to add that you can use metal grates to extend stone floors out a ton. It's very useful to make a network of metal floors first, then put the stone on top. This allows you to get crazy with the builds. And using your cart hack allows me easier access to the entire structure. I'm loving it

    That technique with using the cart to reach snap points down low is a gem. I'd read a few posts hinting at this ability, but hadn't seen it actually work until now. Thanks!
    I hope beginners aren't put off at the start with how you started with a stone base. I just use the hoe to do a squared off section of raised earth into the water to get started. Easy to do and doesn't require swamp level abilities.
    Great survey of tips and tricks! Building in water is much more difficult in Valheim sadly, but I do love the game overall. :)
    Also love the grausten dock and how you did the end shelter with iron pit. I've been using bonfires (can see a long distance), but the design you've got is elegant.

    • @flawless7019

      @@flawless7019 - I don't wait :D
      I start even with the veeeery slow raft at the start. Just hug the coastline to avoid serpents until you get the longship. The Karve can take a couple hits, but is still vulnerable.
      I start my dock building at Meadows level with raised earth. I helps keep the Necks and Boars from trashing my boats. :)
      Skall!

    Using alternate placement mode, you can make the railings look much nicer by placing them lower on the 1m pole on the sides. I personally love the way it looks and use for most docks and balconies I build. It can be tricky to line up well, but once you get one where you want it, it becomes a snap point and the rest is smooth sailing. Or smooth docking, as it were.

    honestly, first dock i ever built was enclosed with thatch roofing, big enough to hold the longship as that was the biggest boat at the time i was playing. with all the stone i had, i just used the big wall sections to make a u shape to hold the longship with enough space to get a cart in there for hauling ore out of the cargo hold and back to base for smelting. helps tremendously that i took the time to smooth and pave the terrain between the dock and the forge! how big is the drakkar, btw?

    • @phinqs
      @phinqs  5 месяцев назад +1

      I do not use mods. However, you can use the in-game console commands to override the building requirements. The console commands are: "devcommands", "debugmode", and then "B" to active "no build cost". You can also use the "Hammer mode" difficulty setting to remove the requirement for materials, but you will still need to place the appropriate workstations this way.

    the ground pilars are the best

    • @robi2757
      @robi2757 7 месяцев назад +1

      @@phinqs What is definitely more important in Walheim is the durability of the structure, not its appearance. A paper fortress won't protect anything. Only solid ground walls will be effective throughout. If you build a solid fortress, you don't have to defend it against monsters at all. I combine ground walls with structures made of wood, stone and black marble (I don't want to change it to grausten). Thanks to this combination, I can build really huge buildings and fortresses - like a mountain.

    • @phinqs
      @phinqs  6 месяцев назад

      @@robi2757 I agree. The ground made structures are great for defence but a combination gives the best of both worlds!

    • @robi2757

      @@phinqs I will tell you how I build it, and you can consider whether it is worth using. I place an earthen pillar and cut it to 2/3 thick with a pickaxe. This wall pillar fits inside the two stone slabs standing next to it. By using this structure and adding iron-tied beams in the middle (every 2 fields), I can build huge structures, and the ground is not visible at all.

    I can pretty much complete a dock on the water without ‘cheats’, however on every video out there the weather is calm and nice. My dock is constantly getting flooded when the waves are huge. Anyone else?

    • @phinqs
      @phinqs  Месяц назад +1

      I can emphasise with that. For my videos, I set the weather conditions as it is much easier to build on a day with little wind. If you are not using any cheats then you may just have to wait for the right time.

    It's amusing watching youtube valheim builders and their use of building shortcuts/features. Some never use anything but "auto," and fewer still never use Shift+MMB to quick select whatever building piece your cursor is over.

    • @phinqs
      @phinqs  8 месяцев назад +2

      The ability to cycle through the snapping points has been a lifesaver. However, it has not always been a feature so older videos will all look like "auto" only! I must admit though, I don't really use Shift+MMB but I should probably try and get used to it!
