Yep.. took me 3 days to finish dock without doing this.. I tried a 2nd dock at somewhere else and it’s only took me 1 day to finish same kind dock that I made from other place 😅🤷🏻♂️
Today I learn. If I want to improve my harbor, I first just have to learn how to walk on water, duh.
Finally a real use case not insane ideas of swimming across oceans in this bug-cart :D

Side note: You don't have to place 2 meter beams on top and bottom. Place a 1 meter beam, attach a floor plank to it. Then attach a 2 meter beam to the end of the 1 meter beam. The beam and flooring overlap by half so you always have a place to attach the next piece.
This is the best tip I've seen for building bridges! The devs need to give some attention to this, some different building mechanic on the water... It's kind of awkward the workarounds we need to do to put this into practice.

Year later and still works great. Only way to build over water.
I really hope a future update to the game makes building in deeper water like this way more bearable. Especially with the tides rising and falling constantly, it's such a headache building in the water

@@JirocTheViking I've actually had a chance to try this out and this has changed my Valheim-life. My friends get a kick out of me carting around the bay half-underwater, but hey, it works!
Its outdated by now, bc you can use manual snapping (on PC its Q and E) to cycle through different snapping points. But nevertheless the method used in this video was really great when the vid came out 🙂

Well 🤔 this is for a real lack of words a hack that I’ve never knew or seen anywhere else explained. I’ve watched an ungodly amount of Valheim vids since week 1 of early release over all this time and never have I seen this one. Now I deliberately went searching for a video like this to see if anyone had other and better ideas of building over water. Just build a large Longhouse on the playground my first settling in finally and with a dock. I’ve had a hard time getting the Core beams anchored out in the water for structural integrity. This will surely help!

Did you know that you don't need to build those funky bits at the side to extend anyway? If you stand on the edge of the piece of floor on the right, you can catch the edge of the floor on the left to add another. Due to the camera angle, it doesn't work the other way, but you don't really need it to. Granted there is more risk involved if high up, but what's Valheim without a little risk?

It's a neat trick, but I think it's less hassle to build a 45 degree ladder down into the water, and sit on the lowest step you can get to without going into swim mode. then you should be able to reach about as low
But you would need to build those over and over and then dismantle them if you do not like the look of them afterwards
