For one season Top Of The Pops aired in NYC. I remember seeing PSB perform this when I was 15. It was the very first time that I saw a public performance of them. Though I liked them, seeing them perform "Rent" turned me into a fan. I promptly went out to buy the "Actually" album. To this day "Rent" remains my favorite PSB song and Actually my favorite album by them.
This song hasnt aged at all. Its also quite haunting as it very accurately tells a story from the 80s. This story could however be told in many decades..

Honest question, would you hear a song like this today? Partly written in 1984 and produced in the Spring of 1987, this was cutting edge and way ahead of it's time. Still ahead of it's time, why nothing in 2021, 34 years!!! later has not been replicated nor bettered, now what does that tell you about the standard of today's music?
