Some songs are ageless, and this is one such jewel of a song. Listened to this first back in 1988 on the car stereo of a friend. I was 14. My first awakening to love, and the experience of tender feelings towards women were accompanied by this song playing in the back of my head. It's amazing that after so many years how this sound track have remained a track for ardor and love almost with the same force as in my teenage years! I read the comments under PSB RUclips posts and find that it is almost the same for so many 40 somethings, and 50 somethings all over the world! All those beautiful, unreachable, and heartache producing women from my teenage days have disappeared from my life irredeemably, perhaps sadly; yet what remained was this track, and few other songs like this. What a shock it is to discover that at 46 what became bigger, material, even tangible to the sanity of this life is this song which came to me through a car stereo 32 years ago. What reduced and disappeared were those fantastic women, and the fantasies of love and romance that this song conjured up with the help of my hormones! And needless to say that for many of us songs like 'Rent' and 'Only the Wind' became more meaningful, and we ended up loving the Pet Shop Boys and their amazing soundscape more as we marveled at the futility of all those unrequited loves!
@@fravadero Thank you for your comments. PSB songs become more meaningful and poignant with every passing year, and although the 80s will not return, Neil and Chris still return to their fans with a repertoire of great songs. Glad to have made your acquaintance, a fellow PSB fan- a kindred spirit!
I was born in 53, my first radio had valves and a 90v battery. The first pop music was from the pirate radio stations then BBC radio one. I have liked music since then and still prefer music more than TV. ROCK ON..
I was wondering where I heard this song lol. "You pay my rent" Barry is so damn sexy in that movie, I probably love the song because it reminds me of him 😂
A remarkable double-edged love song. The dubiety about the set-up the protagonist is involved in is beautifully brought out. Haunting and unforgettable. 👌

One of my favourite songs from the PSB. It has aged well and still a delight to listen to, even today. I also like the more haunting version they did for Liza Minelli
Almost every PSB song is a masterpiece... they should be part of rock'n roll hall of fame... now there are many who are not so important that PSB is for the music...
Спасибо, друзья за ту музыку, которую я впервые услышал еще в Советском Союзе в 86-м - да, ваши клипы показывали в утренних программах. И за вдохновение сегодня. По прежнему с большой любовью, привет из России )))
This is the version I've been looking for! The musical arrangement in the last 2 mins is just superb. I used to turn it right up near the end just to listen to the instruments being played.
In terms of PSB albums that produced strong singles: What Have I Done To Deserve This?, Rent, It's A Sin, Heart (all top ten hits in the UK including 2 number 1's)... nothing comes close to the sheer magnificence of ACTUALLY. And the album had King's Cross as well.... I mean, what more do you want?! Excellent album.
