Lyrics:
Each morning after Sunblest
Feel the benefit, mental arithmetic
I waited by the staff room
In time for benediction
Living a law just short of delusion
When we fall in love there's confusion
This must be the place I waited years to leave
To our voices nobody's listening
We shiver in the rain by the touchline
Then a coach ride to the station
"My lord, the carriage awaiteth!"
Living a law just short of delusion
When we fall in love there's confusion
This must be the place I waited years to leave
This must be the place I waited years to leave
And how
How long?
I'm listening to the words I thought I'd never hear again
A litany of saints and other ordinary men
Kneeling on the parquet
Whatever has gone wrong?
The fear and feeling hopelessness
I don't want to belong
I dreamt I was back in uniform
And a candidate for examination
History, someone had blundered
And a voice rapped "knuckle under!"
Living a law just short of delusion
When we fall in love there's confusion
This must be the place I waited years to leave
This must be the place I waited years to leave
And how
And how
How long?

This is my favorite PSB song. This I played over and over again back in the 90's. PSB gave a voice to my frustrations and feelings through out my youth. This song means so much to me. Thank you.
I have absolutely no idea of what the lyrics mean. Any clue?
@@javiceresI think the lyrics are about the Soviet Union. Also there is a Russian speech at the end of the song: "Our people demand one" (Trebuet nash narod odnogo). This is just my suggestion, I could be wrong.
@@thebigbrothereffects Interesting
Neil studied in Newcastle catholic boy school. Then he left this tough city for London...@@javiceres
funny, I played "Follow Your Bliss" by the B-52s on repeat for days, and this song sound familiar, so it's funny you did the same thing.
One of my favourites on Behaviour.
It's a brilliant track. Love it.
one of their vest songs and a favorite of mine ❤️
"...whatever has gone wrong? The fear and feeling hopelessness I don't want to belong..."
This is, and always will be, a STUNNING Pet Shop Boys song....
Absolutely right!
Denene, this behavior of yours ... is more than approved 😉
You can hear the dark and beautiful Angelo Badalamenti orchestral arrangement that sounds like Twin Peaks or Blue Velvet behind the elegant voice of Neil and the emotional keys of Chris. Together they just work so well. Love this song.
That's why I'm here!!!
dont forget Johnny Marr's guitar playing on this one!
A haunting yet powerful track. Loved this one since its original release. This and Kings Cross.
How about Dreaming of the queen?
Same
Behavior still an emotional wallop of music and sentiments, haunting & brave as the PSB slowed it down and made you think about life, one of the best of an extraordinary body of work, CLASSIC..
Their best song, ever. This could have been one of the best Bond theme songs.
Took me years before I liked this song. Some songs just take time to grow on someone and this is one of those that did for me.
@@p.j.k4484 ya i agree some grow on you slowly. They take some time, but you will find youself playing it in your head and you will begin to really enjoy it. Your emotions at the time of listening may efect your enjoyment of the song, then when you think of it or hear it in a different head space it suddenly clicks.
Really like the song tho, so relaxing and peacefull and a real enjoyment.
Yes..!! They submitted it for a James Bond movie, but the Bond Franchise went with the a-ha song: “The Living Daylights” ! 🖤🤍😬😐 But sooo glad we still got this song on this amazing album 💿!! ♥️ ♥️
The Living Daylights
PSB now bring a tear to my eye. Having the best of times of my life & I didn’t even realize it! I was young, cute & had a great lover of many years by my side. Along with my nephew & niece, we’d dance till wee hours of the morning on weekends at the Complex (gay bar) in STL. TY God for such awesome memories.
❤
Time goes by....
The world was a better place then.
Me too, those days of my misspent youth. I'd give anything to go back..
I took my younger brother angel to the NIGHTLIFE tour, Halloween night early 2000s. Man! what a awesome night.
The Perfection
Such a compelling soundscape. It's like a lullaby from some sequestered dimension. Dream, memory, art, literature, dystopia. PSB, my lifelong companions...
beautifully put....
@@rabscots910 thank you so much
Still listening, will keep listening. This one never ages. Big loss for the bond movie franchise
My favourite PSB song ♥️ timeless....
Simple, the best.
1990: Depeche Mode - Violator. Enigma - MCMXC AD. Pet Shop Boys - Behaviour. My holy trinity for 34 years.
Amen
The opening of the Performance Tour. I love the vocoded voice saying « everybody, everybody » used as a rhythm part in the song. Brilliant.
I've forgotten how good the Behaviour album is. May 2024 🪐
Classic album
Best PSB song ever.
One of the (many) absolutely perfect songs in the PSB canon, and will always take me back to the *_Performance_* tour stop at Radio City Music Hall, NYC in April, 1991. I was utterly transfixed. Still am.
KILLING ME when it cuts out before the song ends, though.
these are the real PSB Sound, I love it
I used to be their big fan.But now I sometimes listen their music. But they are still powerful in the entertainment business😊Thanks for uploading😊
One of the best PSB track
This must be the track I waited years to listen to ... Simply brilliant. A masterpiece! 🥰👏👏👏👍❤
Best comment, Man:-)

Doubtless one of the album's best songs. I always listened to it then and now. The line "I dreamt I was back in uniform/And I can't delay for examination/History someone had blundered/And a voice rapped: 'knuckle under!' made me love this song forever.
-> "And a candidate for examination". Great line
I can't explain, this song, like others by Pet Shop Boys, makes us travel. Someone from Brazil
F*cking sublime. After all these years...
I'm so glad in recent years Behaviour has received its due attention and sentiments because while it was certainly an outlier of an album compared to their work before and after it, I think it's one of their best albums and my all-time favorite
My favorite album. Very strong, conceptual & melodic!!!
Pet Shop Boys, thank you for uploading these beautiful songs from Behavior today!.
This song very good. Welcome PSB always Neil and Chris.
Powerful, strong, deep song. Takes me to a dream that never came true.
Every time I hear Pet Shop Boys I'm out of time, in some different world, some parallel dimension, my kind of place. Live it very much ❤
At the very end of this composition is inserted a recording of the Russian voice of Andrei Yanuaryevich Vyshinsky, speaking at the Third Moscow trial: “Our people require one thing - crush the damned reptile!” - («Trebuyet nash narod odnogo - razdavite proklyatuyu gadinu!»)
Amazing song, as all your songs! I love you!👍 Thank you for the emotions you gave me and you're still giving me!❤️
OMG THATS so incredible and lovely time.I’ve ever had.
Powerful track. " my lord the carriage awaiteth". Love the visuals i had given the lyrical content.
A Brilliant, Epic, Legendary track.
Pet Shop Boys are icons.
Johnny Marr at his best, especially in the fade-out outro (and more pleasure on the 9-minute extended version)
I heard this one, the very first time, sitting in a bus on my way on ski holiday @the alps, a friend lent me his Sony walkman cassette player. For some reason I never heard of the band before. Now I got this Walkman, headset on and I was astonished by the soundstage and the synthesizers and immediately loved this song. I refused to give him the Walkman back for the entire trip, only listened to this song. Been to all concerts in my country ever since . Still love it, and their other sounds off course, but this one is special
This is a master piece, my favorite PSB song ever! A classic right from the start!
This song is a masterpiece
Last year i was in London for the first time and i saw them in 2017 also for the first time in SP, Brazil. Many memories from a different world because on soho i heard that song and Being boring!
Pet shop boys en estado puro!!!
Supremos!!!
This Must Be The Group I Waited Years To Listen
you waited way too long, still worth it
Obra maestra de los que más saben. Bravo!
I love this song.
I was a very innocent 17 when I first heard this album (and PSB in general). A man about my age now (early 30's) swapped albums with me, we were friends volunteering for an LGBT charity. I can remember listening to it in my room alone and hearing something of my own history in music, hearing a way of feeling I hadn't the life experience to fully understand. But I recognized it. Now i'm 34 listening again with experience of my own. Thank you to him wherever you are, and thank you to the Artists. ❤
Had this album on repeat....cassette , sony 3 band graphic band equalizer walkman...dreaming of a girl at the time.
I love this song so much!!!
Behavior my fave album. Absolutely love it.
One of your best album tracks ever. Especially the 10 minute version that Neil apparently forgot about!
This takes me to my early college years. At the time I hated being a student and feeling so vulnerable living in the harsh climates of upstate NY, in Binghamton. I just wanted to to "leave".
"When we fall in love, there's confusion..."
My life story
Mine, too...
For me, the reason this song is so astonishing and on a different plane from other PSB songs is that it contains SO many layers of countermelodies. The various keyboards and even guitar take their turns weaving in and out of each verse. Really quite jaw- dropping and rare! ❤
It's nearly impossible to pick a favorite PSB song but this one is it for me. For a song to beat West End Girls, King's Cross, Can You Forgive Her?, Left To My Own Devices and all the other classics it has to do something really special. And this track does it.
Johnny Marr plays the guitar. It just had to be him.
@@galetinm I've read that in a couple of articles, however I don't think it's totally true. Simply put, the guitar patch from the Emulator II library - Disk 58 Rockman Stratocaster, is an identical match to the main riff used throughout the song (the EII is used for other sounds on this track too). Perhaps it is the closing, more distorted riff that Johnny Marr played.
Tremenda versión , muy buena!! Y fenomenal el formato
Yes,in Italy ....
I think this is probably my favourite PSB song, it feels emotional.... and I really connect with it
I know what you mean ❤
Impresionante
Haunting, but powerful, yet
club-worthy. Incredibly talented duo. The English accent hams up the act 🎬,
LOL 😂😂. Could listen to this track over and over & not lose interest. Simply mesmerizing.
Best track on the album
Watching them perform this song on the Performance concert video is 🤌.
Reminds me of my days when I was in the Air Force. Miss those days. Just sweet memories now.
That's why you must love PSB...!!! That's what I call Music...!!!
Everybody, Everybody, Everybody, Everybody, Everybody, Everybody, Everybody, Everybody...
Everybody welcome to the party! ☺

I love every single PSB song but these hidden under appreciated gems are my favorite!
Definitely one of my faves!❤️❤️❤️
Behaviour best album of Boys for me, ever and ever!
my favorite song of all PSB
Thankyou very much for your art, since I was a boy with dreams

I would come home from the city in the rain in my car the droplets on the window and this song and the pet shop boys
thanks
DISCAZOOOOOOOO!!!!
Tô face the truch um clássico a canção mais linda deste álbum!
How on earth did these geniuses never asked to write a theme for any of the bond films is completely baffling
The best song ever.
Oof just to hear this on vinyl is truly something else! I feel so badass listening to this song in particular! Last time I felt this way was in their NightLife album
Slow synth pop yet with a regular beat, coupled with Neil's amazing voice. Incredible.
😍 One of my favorite song EVER 😍
Un clásico de PET shop boys! Increíblemente no sale en ningún recopilatorio
Tomorrow is now..... In these troubled times, this song has added emotional resonance - stay safe, stay well everyone 😷X
I can't even imagine how John Barry would've arranged this if this ended up as theme for Living Daylights... still this is a fantastic song
Eles são ótimos😷🎶🎤🎶❤🇧🇷💛💚💙👍
I like the way Neil says the word years
