My favourite song of all time. As a 16 year old apprentice listening to PSB on my Sony Walkman little did I know as a 51 year old man I would still be a huge Pethead. Seen them many times and been lucky enough to meet them on several occasions. Hotspot is amazing and was looking forward to Dreamworld show in Glasgow. Just have to wait till next year. Stay safe Pethead"s everywhere.
I'm 50 years old and I don't regret anything! I've had the privilege of enjoying all this wonderful music since the 70s. I've lived through every stage: from record to cassette, from CD to MP3. I've witnessed the incredible evolution of music, and I've enjoyed every moment.
I’d love to know more about why you think that, would you mind expanding? There’s always been something so, so beautiful about this arrangement for me and I don’t have the knowledge to understand why.
@@lucywear6700 Even though it wasn't my comment, I'd like to support it and elaborate: The Pet Shop Boys' arrangements are always crafted towards perfection. Neither is anything missing nor redundant. All decisions are made masterfully and with utter taste, just like a classical composer would write their score. The melodies are timeless and beautiful, even Mozart would have said "oh, thank you, I'll use that one". Not to mention their harmonies and lyrics. Just unpretentious class.
I need to share a story about this track...I was a pupil of Gosforth High School and in my first year of English Literature GCSE I had to write a poem. I had nothing to come up with at all as like most kids I had a hatred of homework. I basically had to hand this poem in the next morning so I copied the lyrics of Kings Cross and handed it in....I got an 'A' and then had to read it out to the class....(my English Literature teacher was over the moon and thought it was one of the most insightful poems he'd ever heard..lol)..I have no evidence but my word, but this is a true story....Even better, in the last term of my GCSE a year later I did the same with It Couldn't Happen Here....I'm hoping teachers are a bit more hip to this these days....lol
The first time i fell in love, back in the 80´s, this song was the anthem. And i actually had the opportunity to thank Neil Tennant for that in 2003 in Gothenburg. A great man he was.

Never understood why this song was not released as a single. It's great, nostalgic, sad and fascinating.
@@pcon71 They released "What have I done to deserve this", "Rent", "It's a sin" and "Heart" from "Actually". "Always on my mind" was on "Introspective" as long remix version. but it's true. the pet shop boys had simply too many hits at that time and therefore enough promo material. king's cross would have been a great hit single too
@@reneschmidt9799 And besides, their 2 first albums most material, existed from 1982 to 1985 in other recordings that failed to become hits. They were trying maybe for 2 years but totally failed. So they rerecorded some of their material with new versions, like West end girls released in 1985 but eventually become a hit late 1985 and early 1986. Their 3rd single Opportunities was a rerecording too, and it eventualky made it in its 2nd release. Its a sin was actually recorded in 84 but it was rerecorded and released in 1987 as we know it.
Nothing beats the song King's Cross! Year in, year out, wonderful songs are released, but King's Cross is simply phenomenal! It can still move us, 37 years later, with its unique chords, with a synthesizer that today we would say is very limited!!! And even so, what a work of art Neil and Chris created!❤❤ "King's Cross" is the Pelé of music, nothing can be as touching to our souls as this song does! ❤ It just makes me a little sad that Neil and Chris are no longer taking this song on their tours, after all it has always been a special highlight on every tour it has been played on!!!👏👏

Same. I'm 55 and I loved this album when it came out in 1987. I had the cassette. I bought it because I loved It's A Sin but eventually loved all the other tracks as well. I was 18 at the time and worked in Harvard Square in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Memories of the 80s and a different world.
Might be wrong but sure it was going to be as there's a video on here if you look it up but because it actually contains a fire out of respect they decided not to.
It was released before the fire. It wasn't about the fire but for me it was utterly prescient, haunting and a fitting tribute to all affected on that terrible day and forever.
Hearing this, I’m 25 years old again and on a pub crawl in some German city. Wurzburg, Frankfurt, Augsburg, Munich, Stuttgart…great times, legendary song. Thank you 🙏🏾
I borrowed this album in 1987 as a cassette from a friend, and like everybody else played it over and over again. My friend never got it back and I still have this cassette to this day. It truly is a masterpiece of music, fantastically written. Kings Cross, It couldn't happen here and Rent are my favourites. Long Live the Pet Shop Boys!
Pet Shop Boys. That's how long they've been here, that's how long they've been great, and they appeal to all generations.❤🇬🇧 just because you must them. Simply legends
Hearing this song makes you realize, music transcends all boundaries. I heard this as a school kid and it was etched in my mind forever. The song still generates the same feeling today after 35 years!

I visited London for the first time last month. I spent a lot of time in Marchmont St, Cartwright Gardens and overcame my claustrophobia descending down into KX to catch the Piccadilly line. Is PSB popular in Russia? I know that PSB love to visit Russia, what is the conection, do you know something more about that?
@@ivanradojevic8887 Super popular. Not less than in 80's and 90's.
Mis PSB son conocidos en todo el mundo. Saludos desde la Ciudad de México 😍
PSB were then and are now super popular. We used to dress in red and make striped hats at parties in the 90s ))
I heard Shopping and Hit Music on Mayak radiostation back in 1988!!!! Im Russian.
The man at the back of the queue was sent
To feel the smack of firm government
Linger by the flyposter, for a fight
It's the same story every night
I've been hurt and we've been had
You leave home, and you don't go back
Someone told me Monday, someone told me Saturday
Wait until tomorrow and there's still no way
Read it in a book or write it in a letter
Wake up in the morning and there's still no guarantee
Only last night I found myself lost
By the station called King's Cross
Dead and wounded on either side
You know it's only a matter of time
I've been good and I've been bad
I've been guilty of hanging around
Someone told me Monday, someone told me Saturday
Wait until tomorrow and there's still no way
Read it in a book or write it in a letter
Wake up in the morning and there's still no guarantee
So I went looking out today
For the one who got away
Murder walking round the block
Ending up in King's Cross
Good luck, bad luck waiting in a line
It takes more than the matter of time
Someone told me Monday, someone told me Saturday
Wait until tomorrow and there's still no way
Read it in a book or write it in a letter
Wake up in the morning and there's still no guarantee
Someone told me Monday, someone told me Saturday
Wait until tomorrow and there's still no way
Read it in a book or write it in a letter
Wake up in the morning and there's still no guarantee
And there's still no guarantee
There is still no guarantee

Pet shop boys forever
One of the very best PSB songs, I loved it as a kid and still do. I just love the melancholic chords they often use and the perfect melodies with the vocals can make for a fantastic song , even though it may seem haunting -- I find it uplifting somehow.
"So I went looking out today, for the one who got away....." WOW. Beat that for a lyric anyone?
I first heard this song as a 13 year old in 1987. Ironically, many years later I did end up feeling lost in a station called King's Cross in Sydney.
The song is disturbingly beautiful. Its sonic complexity and its lyrics provoke a roller coaster of emotions... it´s not sad, but far from happy... is... disturbing, it goes to the soul directly. For a Castillian speaker it is, so for an Englishman who understands all the nuances it must be tremendous. Anyway, a Pet Shop Boys masterpiece. Another one.
