Brings goosebumps , a lump to my throat and a pounding in my heart and a fire in my soul.. The track holds up well & evokes such intense feelings & flashbacks to a much happier decade gone by...
Well said! A great decade that should have stopped in 1985-1986 and that's it! No cell phones, no Internet and all that technology that corrupted the 90's and 00's generation! Poor them they are now addicted to smartphones and walking with their heads down not knowing where they go... Lost generation!
Whos listening in 20- ? No, the time if which you listen to this song is not important. What's important is that you are able to listen and enjoy it. This song is timeless, will never get old and will hold a special place in our hearts. Congratulations on more than 1 Billion for Take On Me, A-ha and thank you for this masterpiece and treasure that you have shared to the world!
Pål Waaktaar Gamst (now Paul Waaktar-Savoy), the lead guitarist, is also the underrated genius who wrote most of a-ha’s songs, and basically all of the lyrics. Morton of course has that effortless frontman charisma and one of the greatest pop voices of all time, and he deserves all the kudos he gets and more, but I wonder how many people know that he’s mostly singing Paul’s incredible original songs? Plus, as a three piece band (with added members occasionally), they were/are a really tight pop rock group and just as amazing live as on vinyl! No studio shenanigans here, these guys were and are the *real deal* 🎤 🎸 🥁
Yes, Pal was the musical genius, Morten had the voice charisma and Mags the roaring synths but whose contribution is also underrated. The band wouldnt be legendary without all 3 key players. Love them, btw since I was a kid in Greece.
Forever a Classic that many mainstream listeners dont know today. At the time these two tracks/videos were released the groundbreaking techniques were stunning. Their 'Take on Me' video starts this story and the way it finishes here in The Sun.. is pure artistic genius !
@@optimus163 🎯 Right on Forever the essential message for 21st Century civilization. The world was already in desperate need of that message in 1985. No one could imagine the problems of mass culture/ mind control becoming what it is now
Everything about about this song the tempo changes the arrangement etc is top notch.even after 36 years it still moves me.such a brilliant original video as well !
I don't understand why the song "Take on me" is more popular than this one. The best song by A-Ha. Dynamic, power, drums, synths, e-guitar, timing all put together in one song. Wonderful.
I was at diner yesterday that is closing down at the end of the month that normally plays 80s throwbacks. They played this song yesterday as I was walking out and tears almost went down my eyes. Such a great song and only fitting because of the situation. RIP TO THE TIMELESS NEPTUNE DINER IN ASTORIA!
I've been a huge fan of a-ha since their debut album, Hunting High and Low. In fact they're my all-time favorite group. I lost my hearing in 2011 and have not had the pleasure of hearing this song, or enjoying any type of music, in over a decade. So, can someone listen to this song for me, one time, please? Thank you :) This is an EPIC song, by the way. This video is timeless and looks just as if it could've been made yesterday. It's impossible not to love it! a-ha was way ahead of their time.
I got you. Remember the orchestral music and the grandeur of the song when the ethereal haunting quality of Morten Harkets phenomenal voice. Love to you. Hold onto the memories of music in your heart ❤ no one can take the power of music from us ever. Blessings to you 🎉
Im so sorry , Sending you good vibes ((())))))) ❤️💫This song is etched into my memory. Music has a way of doing that sometimes, I hope it also does for you ☝️❤️
A-ha was a an era defining band of the early 1980s. They had by far some of the best music videos. This video and “Take on Me” were probably the two best music videos of the 1980s.
This song is nearly 40 years old and it still gives me goosebumps when I crank it up . One time I was fortunate enough to take my CD over to a work buddy's house where he had and elaborate sound system. Large powerful Mcintosh amp and 6 foot tall electrostatic speakers . OMG. I hear parts of this song I never heard before even with my bad ass studio headphones . It was almost surreal to listen to this song in that setting
A-ha were the greatest Scandinavian band along with ABBA. Their songs have something epic, triumphant and with an afflatus coming from magical Northern Europe!🤍♥️🤍
There are some misguided people who call A-ha a "one hit wonder band", because all they know, all they ever heard is "Take on me". That they had 11 successful albums with lots of other hits and even more just awesome music... that's forgotten by the "mainstream":
@@Groffili True. Not even close as a "one hit wonder" band. They got 8 top ten hits in the UK, with this one the only No 1 hit there ("Take on me" went at No 2). And quite famous all over Europe.
Love this AWESOME 1980s song. Love the setting of video and song being recorded in a huge old Gothic cathedral alongside a bunch of mannequins and people alongside the AWESOME 1980s sounds of the synthesizers! The setting and scenes of this video provide a spiritual like touch as if in the presence of God combined with the AWESOME sounds and synthesizers of the 1980s. Love this combination!

I FEEL SORRY FOR ALL THE YOUNG PEOPLE TODAY. ALL THEY DO IS STARING AT THEIR STUPID MOBILE PHONE. EVEN WHEN THEY ARE WALKING OR ON THEIR BIKE. LOOKING LIKE ZOMBIES. THEY HAVE NO CLUE HOW RETARDED THEY ARE.
@@befthug3601 That's true. But understand that we now live in a police state across the UK and the US to where their freedoms to express themselves and enjoy themselves are punished. When you add to that their outright fear to be able to or learn how to express themselves, they don't know what else to do but look down at their little phones and tablets because it's a virtual "safe space" for them. They don't have to worry about or deal with the real world, and that's the danger of those devices more than anything, like it is likewise with youtube and other platforms. They are conditioned to "obey" and never question, and when they do question, they are only permitted to do it with lies and bullshit they were indoctrinated with by those who wrote history after destroying those who once fought to preserve that freedom and individuality. What they are left with is where we are at today. You're right about what you said, but it's important to understand the how and why of that, and that these kids today don't get to know or aren't allowed to have the information, the freedom of expression, or the flexibility TO ever know better or know what we do.
@@FlickanIDetKroktaRummet No James Bond theme on this album? I dont know which country you are from. But their new albums are still charting at top 10 lists in Europe. Thats better than most 80s bands that still release stuff
@@FlickanIDetKroktaRummetWhat utter nonsense…a-ha have released 11 studio albums and sold over 100 million records. Yes their first album sold over 12 million …but that leaves another 88+ million sales of all other albums & singles combined. Such an underrated song from one of the most underrated bands ever. Epic, moving, brilliantly written, produced & recorded. A-ha will always be one of my favourite 80s music groups of all time! 🎤🎧🎶🎸😊 **And in response to all of those who have been ridiculously negative towards my post, please re-read my comments! Did I say that A-ha is a pathetic, waste of time, has-been music group?? My understanding of being underrated means not being given the status or recognition worldwide that Morten & his band mates so obviously deserved. They're one of many music groups from the past who wrote &/or performed exceptional tunes that weren't given the airtime they deserved. So have I cleared things up now? I guess further comments will answer that question! 🤔🙏
I'd be honored if some 80s fans would take a listen to my acoustic piano & vocal YT performances of PURPLE RAIN by Prince and EYE OF THE TIGER by Survivor in tribute to the era of legendary power ballads. Peace and stay safe in the '020s.

For those of us who grew up in the 80s...we truly had the best of times - coming of age at a time without social media distractions, fear of school shootings, or a terrifying pandemic. I always loved this song but had kind of forgotten about it and then rediscovered it a few months ago when it came on First Wave on Sirius in my car one day. If you haven't watched the 2017 live MTV unplugged concert version do yourself a favor and look that one up next.
Don't forget no "reality" shows. That said, I'm so happy to have the Internet instead of sending letters through the post ... not to mention getting so much more than I ever could from the public library.
The 80's had, statistically, the worst outbreak of violent crime in recorded American history. The introduction of meth and crack cocaine increased the profits and, by extension the allure of street level gang crime. The terrifying epidemic AIDS was killing people left and right and we had no fucking idea how contagious it was for, like seven years. Dystopian and post-apocalypse science fiction captured the public imagination because apocalyptic fears were the highest since the Cuban Missile Crisis. The 80's was a fucking hellscape with, admittedly, some pretty sweet pop hits.
Actually its a very timely song: we are even more surrounded by Media today than in the 80s and try to use TV, Internet etc. as a way to keep our troubles distant - but this shallow, unreal world makes us only more isolated.
This is one of the most underrated not to mention enchantingly mystical progressive pop songs written in years. A true musical masterpiece in the progressive reamagined pop renaissance.
I know! It's obviously 1980s but sounds as fresh and exciting today as it did to us back then. No bands today have such good melodies and exciting music ( except Sigur Ros).
This is arguably the best song off of the album. That piano intro - the synth bassline - just a brilliant track! I know everyone remembers these guys for "Take on Me", but "The Sun Always Shines on TV" was a far better song IMHO.

When I was a teenager in the 80's, I traveled to Mexico in a sailing vessel with my family. We decided to live like sailors and go where the wind took us. At that time and before we left, we recorded our favorite local Los Angeles radio station using a "boom box" and magnetic audio cassettes. So, we taped hours of music, DJ comments, commercials, station call letters etc. Basically, it was like a snapshot in time of what was happening on the radio. This song was one of the many we recorded and listened to for hours traveling the Baja California coast and the Sea of Cortez. When I hear it, it brings me back in time.

It’s 2020 and my 11 year old son sings along with this song. Whenever he and I get in the truck to go anywhere he asks me to play this at least once. He told me a few months ago this is becoming one of his favorite 80’s jams (and 80’s is about all we listen to when he’s with me.) I must be doing at least one thing right 😁

Bringing me tears of joy & sadness for memories & times that have gone by... Yearning for yesteryear... Waves of Nostalgia are building within....

Cool. Didn't know that. Sort of like Depeche mode, where Martin Gore was the musical genius who wrote the songs and Dave Gahan the famous voice.
Thanks didn't know. The band is just fabulous.
@@scott80ca Love Depeche Mode too.

It's a beautiful church in Teddington London. Now an arts centre. Taking a class there at the moment.
I don't understand why the song "Take on me" is more popular than this one. The best song by A-Ha. Dynamic, power, drums, synths, e-guitar, timing all put together in one song. Wonderful.
Personally this and crying in the rain are the best aha songs

I've been a huge fan of a-ha since their debut album, Hunting High and Low. In fact they're my all-time favorite group. I lost my hearing in 2011 and have not had the pleasure of hearing this song, or enjoying any type of music, in over a decade. So, can someone listen to this song for me, one time, please? Thank you :) This is an EPIC song, by the way. This video is timeless and looks just as if it could've been made yesterday. It's impossible not to love it! a-ha was way ahead of their time.

One of the hottest bands of the 80s. Great song. Love a-ha! ❤️❤️❤️
A-ha was a an era defining band of the early 1980s. They had by far some of the best music videos. This video and “Take on Me” were probably the two best music videos of the 1980s.
Don't forget their musicvideo for the song Hunting High and Low
You mean mid 80's not early 80's!

@@oscarputrino4478 Totally agree. But I also would include Roxette.
I was young in the 80s but my radio stations did not play this song. They only played take on me! What a shame, this is an amazing song

These days they play this song on radio in my country. It plays older and newer music.
Love this AWESOME 1980s song. Love the setting of video and song being recorded in a huge old Gothic cathedral alongside a bunch of mannequins and people alongside the AWESOME 1980s sounds of the synthesizers! That synth break at the end gives me chills every time, what a fantastic single, one of the best of the eighties!
Same! So many euphoric moments in this track 👍
The synth at the beginning after the terrific opening drum sequence is what does it for me! Who was the mystery drummer?

**And in response to all of those who have been ridiculously negative towards my post, please re-read my comments! 🤔🙏

If you haven't watched the 2017 live MTV unplugged concert version do yourself a favor and look that one up next.

im so jealous 🥺 honestly i would kill to live in the 80s, it seemed to carefree! instead im growing up with stupid rap songs, nude people, ect :(
Don't forget no "reality" shows.
80's for EVER, beautiful Hilary

When I was a teenager in the 80's, I traveled to Mexico in a sailing vessel with my family. We decided to live like sailors and go where the wind took us. At that time and before we left, we recorded our favorite local Los Angeles radio station using a "boom box" and magnetic audio cassettes. So, we taped hours of music, DJ comments, commercials, station call letters etc. Basically, it was like a snapshot in time of what was happening on the radio.
