One of your best videos! I really enjoyed this one with all the wildlife. As someone who is much older then you, I truly wish I could do what you do but age prevents me from doing so. I hope that you continue to make these videos and post them for everyone's enjoyment. Many thanks to you my friend. You are an excellent and much interesting individual.
*So I decided to bring it back to 2016 with this one folks. I took footage throughout this adventure with no real intentions of making a film, but realized recently that I had to show off the beauty. Basically I was practicing documenting my trips. Therefore there are some gaps that I try to fill in with voiceovers! Regardless I hope you enjoy a tour with me through the heart of Newfoundland, Canada's Bay Du Nord Wilderness Reserve.* *Thanks for watching!*
Justin Barbour beautiful scenery love our island thanks for letting me see so much more of it ,great adventurers to come cheers my friend oh yes n by the way the wife loved ya rabbit soup thumbs up
Thanks Joe, I really appreciate that man. You'd be in heaven if you took a trip over here. The tent in the video is the MSR Mutha Hubba 3 man. I have since acquired the Hubba Hubba 2 man as well. Amazing tents, I highly recommend. Light weight, easy setup and tough. 2 man is perfect for me and my pup Saku.
Hello to you both. Joe, thanks for giving a recommendation to Justin’s channel. You were right about him being the real deal. Justin, thank you for sharing the beauty of New Foundland with us. The more I see of Canada the more I fall in love with it so I thank you both for that. I went through and watched all your videos Justin and I am impressed. Looking forward to seeing more of the land you love and your zeal for discovery.
Hey Joe loved your latest video, your a huge role model to me, I have learned a great deal watching you, I have made a life change from trouble, jail almost went to prison and i knew i needed a change then i found your channel. I have done several videos talking about you and things I have learned. It would make my day or year if you would check out my video and give me some advice or pointers.
Hey Joe thanks for recommending this channel. I live in Ontario but was born in Newfoundland. You fellas need to meet up and have a beer in Newfoundland.
@@nolemons i'm still at it my friend. Just spent a year in the bush covering 3900km. Big documentaries coming soon. I operate differently than the average RUclips channel. Appreciate the message and the rewatch. Best wishes - Justin
Always a great day when you put up your vids! Thanks so much for bringin us along and sharing your provinces' rich history. Guys like you remind me of why being Canadian is the best!
Way to go Justin....and good on ya for keeping it real, beware the swag and sponsors, I can't watch Joe Robinette and Shawn James anymore with their ski-doos (with heated trailers for the dog), ATVs, pizza ovens and Fjallraven brassieres. Love it by the fire with the dogs. I want to get out to the Rock now, Thx
Looking at Tromso because I know a friend there! Other than that the rest is up in the air...would like a nice 3-4 day hike in good wilderness. Any suggestions?
Wow!.... That's my birthplace (I'm not kidding)! But we used to live north of Nordens Paris (nickname for Tromsø) at an island, and then we moved to Southern Norway when I was a child. I have still a lot of family there, and visit them almost every summer... There's lots of places, if you want to climb mountains, then the town is all surrounded by it, but a lot of experienced thrillseekers go to nearby Lyngen (highest summit: 1883 m). You can also travel to the many coastal islands and do some wild camping at any one you'd desire. Or you can go inland, and rent canoes and fish in Målselv. Just ask for more if you want :-)
Getting a shout out from Joe Robinet in his latest video!! Good job! I'm heading across the Avalon Reserve this spring/summer following the typical canoe route starting at Cape Pond...can't wait! Been watching your videos sizing up the route. Thanks for taking us along and can't wait to see your full length video traversing NL!
Thanks Mark I appreciate it. Thanks for watching. Seen all these messages last night from others so checked out his vid, I was blown away to get the mention. Th AWR route is a beautiful trip man, so underrated. Helps to have a little water on though to avoid lining as much. I have a guide done up on my blog if you want to check it out. Link to blog is above in the description. If ya have anymore questions drop us a line!
Yeah, saw your guide, read through it a few times. My only concern on the route is low water on the rocky river sections and having to walk or line the boat through a minefield of slippery rocks or alternatively, bushwhacking around them. Keep up the good work! Nice to have some Newfoundland content on all the areas I've dreamed about while pouring over Google Earth!
Hey Man that was the ticket! You went like trooper through that bush! What a sorte point at the finale man. Nature took care of you because you understand nature. Awsome footage thanks for sharing that
Thanks Wayne buddy, we do for sure. They are serene and the last remaining connections to the environments humans were meant to live in. Can't let them all slip away!
Nice. Really nice video. When you came out of the tent to film the caribou, when the rain had slowed, and it was dead calm, I could so feel what it was like. Such a magical time when that happens. And those fish!! Omg, I'd love a meal like that. Haven't had the chance to catch a trout in years, and those were beauts! You should look into getting a firebox stove for your cooking when your in places like the barrens. Only need a few small sticks to make dinner. A little heavy, but tough as nails. Cooks super hot, but it's a little adjustable. Great stove. You can even use it as a mini bonfire if wood is really tight. And no mess left behind. I love mine.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed Jim. The fire box is a great idea. I have thought about it before but just live and die for the open fire if it is allowed. Hard to beat it at night! In the future I will try a stick stove for sure though
Justin Barbour I know, I love having a fire too. I just mentioned it because you said at one point you could just scrape up enough wood to make dinner. I can see wood is scarce in a lot of places out there. Take a look at the different ones. Firebox has some features that put it well about the others, like the two side ports at different levels, so sticks can cross over each other. It's jut heavy, because it's thick stainless steel. They have a nano though. Weighs nothing, but the original you can even cook for the gf too.
For sure Jim, I always manage to find a few sticks but sometimes it can be difficult on top of everything else. I just want to give people an idea of what to expect if they ever come. Where can I get these Fireboxes? Be good for a canoe trip. I also use fuel but you can't beat the crackle. The firebox will give me that
Justin Barbour I found this place for you. It was a couple dollars less than the others, and they seem to have the options. I got the grill plate for mine. Works great for small barbecue steaks. Make sure you get the G2. They also have the Nano, which would be good for backpacking. Gonna get one one day. Amazon has the full kit with all the options if you want, but it'll cost you. Just make sure to watch the RUclips videos from firebox on user tips. I've seen some less than good how to videos on here, and of course practice a few times before you head out. borealventures.com/product-category/brands/firebox-stoves/
Thanks Jim you didn't have to go through all that trouble man! I'm grateful. If I end up purchasing one I will let you know for sure. Keep getting outdoors buddy, cheers!
Thanks man fishing was great for sure, especially in the latter part of the trip. There was so much fishing footage I didn't get because I was rationing battery life then eventually ran out!
That really was great to watch. I only discovered your stuff recently and have watched a couple of your trips. I'm looking forward to watching more. Thanks
Another great video showing our great wilderness, i have been looking for the west to east trek and cant seem to find it, only the trailer for it. Keep up the great videos.
Justin Barbour Yes I do salmon fish, not as much as I like, due to my current location, but I used to live in Alaska, where salmons are of an endless supply.
Another awesome video Justin, really inspiring stuff. I’d love to come out to Newfoundland and spend some time exploring the beautiful land you have out there.
Thanks I appreciate that, glad to take you along. You should make the trip someday for sure. If you ever have any questions drop me a line! Are you in Canada?
Just got done reading From Reindeer Lake to Eskimo Point and your journey, while in a different location, visually brought home the subarctic barrens. Must be a lot of work to film, but I greatly appreciate the footage and look forward to the next adventure!
Thanks I really appreciate that. It is hard work to film for sure but worth it for me when I can get back and relive my experience forever. Not mention sharing the unknown and beauty of the natural world with others!
Fantastic content. Looking forward to footage of your epic journey across NL. It is shameful the amount of garbage in the woods. I grew up spending a lot of time in the woods with my family. One thing I noticed when I moved to AB is you rarely see trash in the foothills and mountains. Different culture I guess. Cheers on the shout out from Joe.
Thanks Geoff, I really appreciate the kind words and you stopping by the channel. And yes the garbage drives me.. not sure why many NL'ers have not adopted better environmental practices. Stay tuned for more vids man, cheers!
You certainly have a lot of outdoor knowledge for a young man. You and Joe Robinet should get together and do a 10 day trip. You certainly would enhance his large channel that he has. You could teach him many things I'm sure. I like video's where something is happening then just camping and fishing. Nice mix of video's you have. Many channels have the same ole same ole just to put video's out. You seem to truly enjoy making them and have enough content unlike many large and small channel on RUclips. I'm sure your channel will grow sooner then later with such great content. Stunning scenery. I love your spiritual appreciation for nature. It shows you truly enjoy it and it shows you're not into just making video's for money. It shows how you're one with nature and your love for nature.
Thanks , there is some really nice fishing for sure. Not too hard to get a feed of brook trout anywhere you go outside of St.John's. Labrador is even better
Hey Justin, nice vid. I flew in there a couple times over the years on my rounds just sightseeing esp caribou and bears and doing some fishing whenever I got the chance.
Bay du Nord river was a great place to do some fishing years ago, friend had cabin down that way as well as Newton Lake . Lots of beautiful place in Nfld 4 sure. Also over on the other side Victoria Lake Meelpaeg Lake, some big ones over that way Ouananiche bright orange when I fished there.
i have decided i like your vids. good to see a young man that's not afrade to take off his shirt and get to work wen there is work to be done love the vids
ya Justin pretty neat trip , Grouse with the badger ? why not pack a pump or a fold over shoty 12 or 20 g with 22 below there pretty cheap , was it weight in regards to the badger , great video , is that a hunt able area or a reserve cool area
Thanks Steve. It was not hunting season. I just had it to scare off any coyotes or wolves. Also had some Bear Bangers. Better than nothing. I have seen models of over/unders and folding shottys. Might pick one up down the road. What specific models do you recommend?
ive had a few diff ones savage combo 20/22lr are good if you want fold over 12g I hade a couple diff warrior's one was a 20" barrel single shot the other 18" also had a HR single shot good to , I would stick with Turkish or north American ones ! stay away from Chinese makes , ive trimmed my collection to rem 870's now one with 14" and 18" barrel and one with 26" / 28" barrels , I was inj a few yrs back so I'm a quad hunter now I had a fold over I used on my quad but I like shooting grouse with my 22's better keep the shotty for wolves bear's now ! you can get a new single shot Turkish one for between $150/$200
Came from the European especially British influence and settling here. They call them all ponds over in England etc and brought that language here much of it which still remains. Thanks for watching
I immensely enjoy your videos. I do have a question, will there, or is there already, a series of documentary of your big trip of 2017. I would be very interested in seeing this. At any rate, it is a very beautiful part of Canada. Truly, a paradise of natural magnitude. Keep the videos coming and thank you for sharing. God Bless, Greg
Hi Greg thanks for the kind words man. The 2017 doc is in the works now. I have a production company helping me with it. Stay tuned here or on my Facebook page linked in the description for updates. Cheers
Justin , brilliant videos , I’ve added you to my ‘watch often ‘ videos along with Joe Robinet ... brilliant insight into your country better 5han any tourist board !
Awesome trip, the beauty of NFLD is something to behold. What material is your "mule" constructed from and you obviously found it durable enough for all the rock gardens you paddled around/through. Is there a Canadian dealer for the rafts? Thanks for sharing!
It is for sure, thanks for watching! Are you from here Jacqueline? The raft is made from a thickly woven 210-denier High Count Nylon, which is coated on one side with a highly UV resistant heavy polyurethane film. Polyurethane is basically a resin form of tough plastic.
Sorry for the late reply Justin, just found your reply, didn't get notification for some reason. I am from Nova Scotia but my grandfather was from a small place called Doctor's Harbour in NFLD. It is no longer a community and wasn't a very big one when he was a kid. Families were re-located from remote areas many many years ago and his family was one. I did a backpacking trip across the Long Range Mountains in Gros Mourne years ago and fell in love with the place then. Thanks for your reply!
This amazing super phenomenal bushcarft channel and the video he’s makes are great way to help people with their bushcraft skills and learning activities and to be education about outside wildness and I am glad to support this awesome man and his experience exciting bushcraft channel and it my favorite one on RUclips 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀🤴🤴🤴🤴🤴🤴🤴🤴🤴🤴⭐️⭐️⭐️🤴🤴🤴🤴🤴🤴
I'm so jealous over the good fishing. I once spent 3 months in a fly-in camp 150 km from the nearest road in SK with dreams of big brookies and lake trout but all we had in our lake was pike. Not much fight in them and not good eating. Still the best experience of my life.
Thanks buddy I appreciate it. Salmon caught on fly rod with barbless hook as I did is perfectly legal. Season doesn't end until mid September in that area. So much fishing including that Salmon was not caught on camera. I would say I caught at least 40 nice sized fish. Most returned of course. The place is a gold mine!

Fantastic video, super inspiring!
Can't wait for more, can you please tell me the model of MSR tent you have? looks great, lots of headroom.
Thanks.
Thanks Joe, I really appreciate that man. You'd be in heaven if you took a trip over here.

Looked like an amazing trip. I'd say a trip of a lifetime but you've had many. And many more to come I'd imagine. Thanks for taking us along.
Thanks as always for watching and commenting Chad. Love hearing from ya
amazing work Justin love your videos. This wilderness reminds me a lot of Northern Ontario area of Temagami.
Excellent! I detected a familiar blueberry or two on the video. Good fishing-eh?! Well done, Justin and thank you too.
Thanks it was blueberries for sure, they were everywhere! Do you pick blueberries yourself?
Your welcome. That would be a beautiful thing. Berry picking. We have settled for the store bought kind instead I'm afraid.
They do the job when you can't get out for sure! Do you live in Canada?
Justin Barbour. It has been a long while since I was any where near Canada. Hope to get up North sometime this year.

It's coming soon! Hoping to have a 4-6 part series out by this Xmas stay tuned and take care!
I love how that raft blows up! Such a good idea because it would take me a whole day and a lot of dizziness to blow that thing up!
There's nothing too it! takes three-four minutes to inflate and half the time to deflate. Easy peasy
that salmon was a great touch to end the video. love your videos keep them coming :)
Thanks man glad you enjoy them. I was so happy to get that! Too bad I didn't get it on film, it was a fun moment. Do you Salmon fish yourself?

That's amazing, getting to Alaska is a dream of mine...thanks for sharing

Enjoyed the video as usual .
Looks like you have a little Badger . I have one as well it's oney favorite guns 👍
Thanks for comin along Stephen! and yes the little Badger it was. Small form of protection for me.
Newfoundland has got the nice trout,,Well done.
Thanks , there is some really nice fishing for sure. Not too hard to get a feed of brook trout anywhere you go outside of St.John's. Labrador is even better
great video had to eat a loaf of home made bread to get those couple of small bones you left in that trout cool video bud
Where did u get the bag to pump air into your canoe it looks a good set up
From Alpacka Raft. Comes with the boat. Check out the link to their page in my description above!
Awesome video. I been looking at a pack raft. Nice tunes also
Thanks for coming along. The Alpacka is a beast!
Hey Justin, nice vid. I flew in there a couple times over the years on my rounds just sightseeing esp caribou and bears and doing some fishing whenever I got the chance.
Sounds awesome. Where did you spend the most time you figure?
Bay du Nord river was a great place to do some fishing years ago, friend had cabin down that way as well as Newton Lake . Lots of beautiful place in Nfld 4 sure. Also over on the other side Victoria Lake
Meelpaeg Lake, some big ones over that way Ouananiche bright orange when I fished there.
It's all great for sure. I fished Meelpaeg Lake got some dandies last summer. Bright Ouananiche as well. Ya can't beat it

ya Justin pretty neat trip , Grouse with the badger ? why not pack a pump or a fold over shoty 12 or 20 g with 22 below there pretty cheap , was it weight in regards to the badger , great video , is that a hunt able area or a reserve cool area
Thanks Steve. It was not hunting season. I just had it to scare off any coyotes or wolves. Also had some Bear Bangers. Better than nothing. I have seen models of over/unders and folding shottys. Might pick one up down the road. What specific models do you recommend?
ive had a few diff ones savage combo 20/22lr are good if you want fold over 12g I hade a couple diff warrior's one was a 20" barrel single shot the other 18" also had a HR single shot good to , I would stick with Turkish or north American ones ! stay away from Chinese makes , ive trimmed my collection to rem 870's now one with 14" and 18" barrel and one with 26" / 28" barrels , I was inj a few yrs back so I'm a quad hunter now I had a fold over I used on my quad but I like shooting grouse with my 22's better keep the shotty for wolves bear's now ! you can get a new single shot Turkish one for between $150/$200
I enjoyed that, wonderful video 👍🏻
Thanks as always Charlie!
Great vid, I work in Nfld but live in Ontario. Im curious why in Nfld you call them Ponds, elsewhere we call them lakes?
Cheers
Awesome video footage
Joe Robinet gave you a shout out so I checked out your channel and it's fantastic great content.

Justin , brilliant videos , I’ve added you to my ‘watch often ‘ videos along with Joe Robinet ... brilliant insight into your country better 5han any tourist board !
Joe Robinet sent me here, great video!
Arcani Prea thanks!!
This amazing super phenomenal bushcarft channel and the video he’s makes are great way to help people with their bushcraft skills and learning activities and to be education about outside wildness and I am glad to support this awesome man and his experience exciting bushcraft channel and it my favorite one on RUclips 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀🤴🤴🤴🤴🤴🤴🤴🤴🤴🤴⭐️⭐️⭐️🤴🤴🤴🤴🤴🤴
donna pratt thank you so much Donna that means a lot to me! Do you practice bushcraft often?
Great video Justin
Thanks Dan!
Great video!
Thanks for coming along for the ride! Very much appreciated
Really strange to watch one of your videos without Saku. Still awesome as usual though.
I know I feel the same way Justin. Thanks for checking this one out! I got into some nice fishing
I'm so jealous over the good fishing. I once spent 3 months in a fly-in camp 150 km from the nearest road in SK with dreams of big brookies and lake trout but all we had in our lake was pike. Not much fight in them and not good eating. Still the best experience of my life.
Joe brought me as well. Great stuff brother! what kind of MSR tent are you using here? Also loving the rabbit soup or stew!
MSR Mutha Hubba ! Thanks buddy
Miss the ole Newfie Screech
Stupid question Justin. What kind of tobacco do you smoke in the pipe for a relaxing draw?
All different kinds! My favorite is a mixture of captain black gold and vanilla of any brand
@@JustinBarbournlexplorer Right on. Thanks
a great video, I would luv to come home and do a trip with you .
Thanks Brian. You never know, someday we might cross paths !
Old now but still good like the rest:)
Awesome trip and video! such good fishing, i can't believe you nabbed a salmon, it was legal for you to keep that, right? keep the videos coming.
Joe Robinet send me here
Thanks for coming over!! Stay tuned for more vids
