- This video goes over the complete breakdown and install of S65 V8 Rod Bearings. My goal was to cover absolutely everything between questions about why this happens, how it happens, and other things around the S65 engine that's recommended to be replaced.
I hope this helps. Please give it a thumbs up if you found this valuable!

I spent some serious time making this video and I'm SUPER happy to have it out now. This video shows the RAW look at how rod bearings work. We go over literally everything... why they go out, what brands to go with, pricing depending on where you live, how bad my rod bearings were, what tools to use, what size bolts... you name it, we went 100%. A HUGE thank you to Mike at Precision Dynamics for always taking the time to be on video and explain things so well.
If you had gotten ANY kind of value, education or entertainment from this video, please hit that thumbs up button! I hope this helped anybody who's either looking to replace their rod bearings, or just doing research before you grab an M3. Happy to help in any kind of way. Feel free to check out the description box to see all info on where you can see more of this car being documented and also Precision Dynamics information.
Once again, thank you for watching!!!!
Much love, -SB!!!
Spencer Berke absolutely fantastic video! I had 2 E92 M3’s in a row. Loved this model so much. Thankfully never had rod bearing issues and it was 8 years ago and I didn’t know the importance of preventative maintenance. I was thinking of getting another one and will def do the rod bearing to avoid any issues down the track.
Spencer Berke ps... just liked and sub’d👍
Hi Spencer, many thanks to do the Video, Greeting from Santiago de Chile South America !! My M3 have 90,000 mills, ready to change the rod bering.
Hey bud. I know I'm late on the journey of your car. I'm looking for gts tune that you did so I can get it done at the same place you did. Where do you recommend I go and get the gts flash done
Thank you very much for this video, I plan to get me 2011 M3 soon and definitely have some idea of how to go about my mission god have to say Mike is absolutely amazing # 1 love please share mikes work shop number

This video is so thorough man. Great job, I appreciate you taking the time to put this together for us.
My guy, you make me wanna take my M3 from Michigan all the way to Cali just to have your mechanic work on my car!
I drove from Oregon. It's only a one thousand mile trip, but the experience was unforgettable. You won't be disappointed.
DM me if you're watching this please!! Would love to see anybody out there who's watching my content. instagram.com/spenceberke
what tires are you running bro?
Sean Quinlan toyo proxies R888. That tread pattern is unmistakable and they’re about $1,300 a set depending on your specs.
@@jdmcarboy64 thank you
The guy doing the job is the star of this video. Thanks for giving him so much antenna time!
Of course! These guys are amazing here!
@@SpencerBerke the video is pretty good too. Thank you for this.
Were I in the US (and close by) I'd consider this garage for sure.
Thanks for taking the time to shoot the video and ask questions.
I knew a lot about this procedure, but this didn’t understand the methodology. This is a great step by step guide that will help eager DIY’ers take this on.
And you can tell the mechanics that performed the procedure are top-notch. Great video thanks!
Great video bro! Having done my bearings already with BE's and ARPs this is an invaluable resource for anyone who wants to attempt a DIY.
Its is a joy to watch and listen to an expert, hats off to Mike and the team at Precision Dynamics
Got myself a large coffee, sitting back, excited for this one !
Best channel for the e9x M3 family!!! Kudos for your work bro! Appreciate it. Sold my e92 m3 and regretted my 640 GC even after a FBO. E90 comp on the way !!!
With love all the way from Singapore
It looks like 7 people accidentally disliked this video. One million thumbs up dude. This video is by far the most comprehensive on the internet.
Thank you, sooo much guys!
Best RB DIY ever, so informative and professional based on experience and knowledge.

What a great video, if i had the proper equipment, i would be able to do this myself after this film. Keep it up spencer !
I love these hour long detailed videos. Great thorough video answering all my questions
GREAT video, I hope this one pulls in hella views for you man, your content is KILLER
This was a extremely informative and well put out. Great video Spencer. Plus those ARC-8s thooo 🔥
So I just discovered your channel last night and I have watched a dozen plus of your videos and man its such great content! You are really doing a huge service to the platform and the community! Looking to purchase my first M3 here soon and I have learned so much in the last 24 hours from your channel. Im currently a N54 guy and I have always wanted an s65 car but was just scared of the maintenance however your videos and insight totally made me more confident to go for it so thank you!
Do you have a pre-lci vs lci video?
have been toying with the idea of buying an e90 this summer and this was super helpful. There's so much information out now it makes me less and less scared of taking on ownership of one of these
I love your content when it comes to talking with Mike about mechanics. I'm sure if you were making more videos that way, more people would get to know him and subscribe. I don't really follow to much videos of talking 'bout m3 and stuff but i really enjoy videos like this one. Please make more of it!!
If only all mechanics were that professional. Kudos to Mike.
Make me wanna ship the M3 to CA from NY for him to do the RB
Awesome video. Keeping the steering rack intact I like. This is the way I am going to do it!
Broo you always make awesome videos i watched every single minute of this video i did my bearings 2 months ago with SSR performance they did a good job but they had a hard time to find me BE bearings if i wouldn’t know about ACL i would go with them .. you should make another video about oils because alot of people go with different brands ( castrol, liquid molly, bmw twin turbo) they keep saying liquid molly is the best but you never know .. keep making videos like this you are the best making videos of E9X platform .. i’ve seen you a couple times around irvine area and mission viejo and your car looks so clean ... keep up the good stuff
great video . Appreciate the work and time making this. learned a lot
Very helpful thanks... getting the rod bearings replaced on my 2008 E90 M3 w/99K miles in two weeks
Awesome video! Great team there @ precision. Taking my car there
Thanks Spencer I appreciate you bro because of these videos I will be doing the Rod Bearings myself ✌🏼✌🏼
wow speechless at how educational this video is
I love this guy.
He really seems to know what he's doing
Great video. I'm actually in the market for one. Answered all my questions. 👍👍
Can't wait till I get another s65 v8 great video bro
thank you for the clip - great stuff ! learnt quite a bit !
Thank you for sharing this video, and to show for us the importance of Rod Bearing Replacement! 🛠 every 70000 miles🛠
Without your Video I wouldn´t have any idea about this type of preventative maintenance!
Again and Again Thank you so much!😊🎯
Good info Spencer. I would never use an impact to remove rod bolts, but good work nonetheless👍
Will be getting mine done when the snow melts (Canadian here )
Awesome video! Very educational, thank you!!!
I’ll legit drive to California just to let money mike do all the PM on the BM haha. Awesome video Spencer 🙏🏻
im thinking the same thing all the way from CT
I'm thinking the same thing
Is the mechanic good? Do you recommend him? Does he to the gts flash ?
2.2k
Hi, very high skill mechanic .... I can see that on the tools table, so clean .
Amazing and very helpful video. I’ve been looking into buying an e92 M3👍
Fantastic mechanics! Thank you for the video
Great Video, Very informative, TY!
Just picked up an e92 m3 on Saturday. Mine has 65k miles and I’m goin to have Rb done ASAP. Damn shelter in place is adding delays.
The guys that can pull off this job are like heart surgeons
Do curbside replacement
Amazing detailed video 👍👍
Great video, super informative
Longest video I've ever watched on RUclips, I did BE's & ARP studs on my S54 as well, but always recommend ACL as an alternative too. Spencer you did good with this one! You should consider Ravenol oil, their tech sheets are superior to any other 10w60 on the market currently, and after using a bunch of different oils, my placebo says the motor runs a lot happier on it.
I changed oil in my daily diesel from castrol to ravenol and now it runs like it was totaly different engine with no friction inside. I was shocked how much difference oil can make.
Great video, my e60 m5 is at 112000 miles and still on the original bearings, although I have all the parts to replace them just have not had the time
If you have driven the car normally you shouldn't worry at this milage
Thinking of getting one of these
Fantastic video! Thanks
great video man
Precision dynamic dudes know wtf they doing.🔥🔥🎬🛢️💯💯🎞️🎸🤣💯📹🎯🧰📸📺🎯😂🎯😭🎸😭🙄😜🙄🛢️🎸📺
Thanks for the explanation on ACL vs. BE bearings. Does ACL make sense for 2010 pre-LCI E92 M3? I'd prefer to get them with copper & lead so I can see the spike in levels during an oil analysis.
Thats amazing!
Spencer, This video makes me thing you don't listen lol.
Good video over all. Keep it up.
Any chance you can drop a link so I can
Purchase the bolts and bearings ?
great video dude :)
thanks guys
+1
I work on BMWs in the 70s and 80s and they had rod bearing issues back then too. I had to replace rod bearings many times
Plenty instructions, way to go for S65 engine, teaches a lot
Thanks for the video, very useful for my detailed pre-purchase notes haha. Is the mass of the Con-Rod fasteners not important for proper counter-balancing?
Bouta do my own bearing this video helped a ton just little more research to do. How is your car doing since you replaced them?
After watching this I’m sold on these guys to replace my rod bearings.
Great video !
Honest guy who knows his shit. I'd be shipping my car from england to have him work on it
Purpose of stretch bolts is to reduce the lose of life due to fatigue. Basically stretch bolts handle situations where load on the bolt changes frequently . For example the bolts holding your alternator aren’t getting a ton of load on and off as you drive as opposed to your connecting rod bolts which vary load every revolution.
My 08 S65 was swapped out for a low mile 2013 S65 but its looking like i'll still have to do rod bearings at some point..
thank you!! i will buy it!!
Should be a class action lawsuit
Who the fvck wants to pay 75k for a car to worry about Rod bearings.
E9x M3's aren't 75k tho
It’s amazing car! I love mine.
Thanks so much for your videos spencer ! Super helpful, i live in Florida! Do you recommend me any place around me where can I do my rod bearings I have the BMW M3 e90 2008 !
can you post a link to bearings and bolts? thanks!
When I did my rod bearing I installed nylon engine mounts! Would never go with rubber again. And they go good with my solid trans mounts. Next is solid diff and rear sub mount
Poly is better. It’s stiffer so us stance guys like it ‘cause no travel in the bushings.
Thechristopherryan nylon is harder than poly. A lot more vibration and harshness though
Great Video Spencer, been following lately, just bought a 08 E92M3 with 99 kms so 1st mod is rod bearings!, can Mike @ Precision give us the ACL Brg p
and carilla bolt part numbers, so I can get this replaced done locally in Canada Look fwd to more of your vids !!
What is the name of the rod bolts he used and maybe a link to them? Thanks
i read that ACL has standard and under sized (more clearance) bearings for this engine, is that true?
Spencer I do own a E60 M5 2008 Facelift it has 98xxx kilometers. I want to do the rod bearings but should I change other parts too while The underside is open? The car had been taking good care of before me and the clutch was changed before it get shipped to Norway from Germany.
Hey I have a questions once rod bearings are done will the car be safe? Or will you have to replace them again in the future?
Did you guys mesured bearings clerance with plastic guages just for the refrance how much wear is on the crank ?
I’ve never heard of e9x having rod bearing issues. Everyone from Honda guys to lance armstrong has heard of the infamous e60 M5 rod bearing issue though.
After replacing rod bearing how long would it take to replace them again?
What bolts did he use again ?
Where can I buy the Carrillo S65 Rod Bolts?
Best rod vid
Which rod bearings did you end up buying ?
Your mechanic is badass
I agree!!!
@@SpencerBerke I'm moving to Florida on April 27th, do you still have buisness down there? I'm really interested in a part time job or anything to be apart of a team in some way man! I'm yl22 years old and your career points are my ambitions and hobbies.
What year is your M3 and how many miles were on it when you had these changed? Also, what bearings did you use? Sorry if that's in the video. I watched most of it, but did not hear this info.
so did you replace the old rod bearings with new factory parts? if so, then this problem will resurface throughout the ownership of the car?
I’m looking into buying a 2008 m3 with about 87k miles on it. Would you recommend buying one with that many miles? I’m also not sure if the rod bearings were replaced
Hi the ACL replacement bearings. Are they the race bearings?
How it looks at the n54 engine are this an issue? thank you
How often do you have to replace the rods.
how's the ace bearing compared to vac?
This video just got you a sub 😄
Sorry for kind of going off topic. Anyhow, Is it possible for main bearing shells to be replaced from underneath the car after removing the pan for the g80 m3's? Or does the engine need to come out and be torn apart? Thanks. I am affected by the main bearing recall and so I want to know if the dealership is going to fix it the right way. Thanks
Mike, did my Rod Bearings replaced it with BE Bearings and ARP bolts, and it took them less than 6 hours with another Mike.
Question; is there a precision dynamics in NY Long Island? Or affiliates? Video was very informative helpful. Helping me decide weather to buy a 2008 BMW M3. Cost of used cars are very high currently, hoping they taper in the coming months. (Interest rates help drive down prices but cost more to finance). Consumers can’t win.
What acl set up rod set did you go with?
Damn awsome video
