- Fred Ashmore just set the solo Cannonball record driving from New York to Los Angeles in a rented 2019 Ford Mustang GT with 130 extra gallons of fuel onboard. It took him just 25 hours 55 minutes. The next day, he left to compete in the Bandit Run.

It's hard not to smile when you hear a story from Fred. This was certainly a run to be proud of!
proud? at least he didnt injure anyone or worse. nothing to be proud of.
Tony Cotto you must be lost
ok ed
What a great storyteller he is.
I was smiling the whole time
"The guy they're lookin for is behind em" dad wisdom
That was quite a week of driving. We are excited to share that since he came to Atlanta and recorded these stories, Fred found and purchased the Mustang that he rented for these runs.
That's awesome, making memories in your vehicle is how you build an emotional attachment to it. I'm sure he'll own it for years to come 👍
Plus it's only fair to the rental company considering what he put it through 😂
Fred can't retire! Regardless, we need to hear more from him. His storytelling skills are on par with David Lee Roth.
@@jaydenjohner6901 Don't be gentle, its a rental! ;)
Please bring it on the show !
✊
Jesus tap dancing Christ, this guy has 93 octane for a bloodtype.
As a toddler, Mom couldn't nail his diaper to the floor to keep him in one spot. He'd have the diaper off in 30 seconds and be into something else.
Or just a crap ton of adderall
Cocaine corsing through his veins
When's his dad going to tell his side?
I SECOND THIS. I WANT THE FATHER'S SIDE!
Great idea
I totally wanna hear dads side of the story too.
Agreed, hearing dad's side of the story would be epic! Ed, can you make it so?
"What's that sonny, the ride I took with my son?
I don't remember much, I musta been sleeping."
Done.
My mans doesn't understand that crossing from the far left across a median at triple digits to make your exit is a normal Atlanta occurrence ?? I think it's even on our driving test somewhere
Just a mustang doing mustang things
I think that's a southern driving habit
@@satagaming9144 makes sense, probably was a crowd near by
@@ethanclupper7034 I literally give mustangs more room knowing they are thirsty for blood
@@ethanclupper7034 if cops want people to social distance they should drive mustang's to find crowds
Awesome story. I just lost my dad this past fall. That summer we did a roadtrip from near Philadelphia to Oshkosh, Wi. 1000 miles in 16 hours. We finally got there 2 days early so we could enjoy the arrivals the day before Airventure. Was so glad to do it with one of own cars, my fiesta; and have the fun of figuring out speed vs fuel economy.
Watching this video was painful in this light, but a joy seeing the fun you had with your dad and rembering the joy I had with mine. Maybe one day I'll do this trip again in car in remembrance instead of flying in our plane like we always wanted to do.
Imagine what the record would be if he didn’t have to deal with tire going out
At this point, someone from Avis has to come in.
Yeah, but can you run up to Boston and bring back some clam chowder for me and my daddy? In 18 hours?
I don’t think the bandit could do it, but I’m sure Fred could!
He wouldn't dignify himself to go to Boston for Chowder. He'll make it himself i. HANCOCK MAINE and have to Atlanta in record time
@@uscitizen7665 firstly, look up the definition of dignify. Secondly, that's not how it went in the movie.
Biddeford Maine
That reference? I understand it. :D
I love the map showing regular travel time at 8:11. Really puts it in perspective
Wow, I had no idea he did the Bandit in the next couple days after Cannonballin'... That's insane
The pic of his dad eating the Slim Jim cracked me up! My dad’s just the same, nothing phases him.
The printer needs to pair that with his waffle house photo as a bundle!
@@trapjohnson lol
He performed a triple digit Jersey Slide. Deserves every bit of that sub 15 hour victory
We call it a three lane
Last time i was this early Ed was still the record holder.. ooooo.
Just, tough love. You're still my hero Ed.
My friend you preformed what’s known as a Jersey slide. 15:19
At least there wasn't a Pennsylvania tag in front of him
El Camino to true
No mustache, fastest time? Something doesn't add up.
Helps the aerodynamics.
That's what dad was there for
artistwithouttalent nonsense, mustaches create downforce.
The mustache was useless weight.
Ought the be part of the rules must have coochy drip mustache to enter race
Sometimes i feel cars have a soul and this rental mustang just wants to be the fastest mustang alive.
Amazing. Big Fred pullin off another epic run. Thanks for giving him the invite Ed! Lets hear the 2019 c2c win story now!! Thats a heck of a story!!
Thanks for all the props! Couldn’t do it without great support from friends like you
Just seriously amazing, my hair rose as he kept telling the story. Genuinely a once in a life timr experience to have had with your dad
Omfg, it’s always when your in a Huge rush theres always some lady with a kid & a ton of shit that takes forever or the Classic local guy with a ton of lottery tickets..... there needs to be a separate line for the lottery ticket people.... they Bug me!
one of the gas stations in my area does that, the guy behind the counter will stop helping the lottery person to ring you up for anything else / gas. The gas is a little more expensive there, but if I have to go in, i'll always go there.
I feel the same about people buying cigarettes! !!! TAKE YOUR DRUG DEAL TO ANOTHER LANE !!!! You are wasting time of MY LIFE !!!!!😄😄😄😄😄😄😎😎😎😎😎😎🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺
@@artmchugh5644 I mean cigarette people don't really hold up the line that long, they usually know what they want and get it pretty quick.
@@friedbaconsizzles bullshit !!!
In my city the guy in front of you, who has been waiting in line just as long as you, still can't decide what flavor blunt he wants to smoke.
Fast rates of speed with a one of your parents in the passenger seat is a great time. My mom loved seeing western Colorado at 120mpg plus so years back. Would do it all again in a heartbeat.
One of the best father/son story’s I had the privilege to hear. Thank you for telling it.
And as previously posted, we need to hear Fred Sr., tell his side....🚘
Such a great story, gave your dad another story to tell from a full life
Such a wholesome father a and son story.
Hands down one of the best father son moments ever told in my book. Okay Big Fred is a Navy Seabee I'm a Navy Corspman so I might have a slight amount of bias! LOL
You win. Best story. Happy for you. Smiled from start to finish
We love these types of videos. Keep them coming!
I'm genuinely jealous, Fred. Awesome you got to do this with your dad while he's still "here".
Congrats and take care, sir.
-Ed on the Ridge
(RIP Pop)
Much love for Dads! Car stories are people stories
Best memories u can make with ur dad bar none! Well done!
I know Burt Reynolds is smiling down on you Fred. Watch ol Bandit RUN!!!
Don't forget about Jerry Reed.
Keith Lamoy you mean snowman 😅
I really wanna see Mike Finnegan tell some stories.
Just watch Finnegan's Garage 👍
All Mikes stories are under license to Hot Rod Magazine.
I could listen to this guy for hours
Ok
The man is back! I loved the rental mustang cannonball run
Epic story. This is the definition of zero F's given.
That stretch of 49 from Shreveport to Arkansas is new road with nothing on it. A great place to open up a rental Mustang. Congrats on another fine record.
They didn't have refrigerated trucks so the Coors had to be delivered within that time so it would still be good. Cledus is my real life cousin and he also did all of the sound tracks for the movie.
Cleetus.
Jerry Reed was a fine man and musician. One of the best pickers to ever live. Sad he is no longer with us. You're lucky to have had him as part of your family.
What’s the fridge motor on the front of the trailer for?
My dad told me that was a bit much too.......but I was only doing 80. Respect for your dad doing that drive and speed. For sure an awesome experience
I heard Chuck Norris once beat the Bandit Run record unoffically on a snowmobile with George Stephanopolous on the handle bars while drinking a Coors Beer
Damm it
Amazing story, wish my dad was alive to do something similar, yet I have my sons and I’ll do it with them.
This guy abused that rental mustang 🤣He's a legend Congrats on the record'S
“Slim Jim at 130mph!”
LOL! Amazing story!!
Who wants to guess what song is going to be stuck in my head all day?
Yep!
Cuz we gunna do what they say can't be done
The theme from 'Deliverance'?
I don't get it.
West bound and down no other direction just west
Great story, and an awesome experience with you and your Dad that you can cherish forever.
This is fantastic - I used to play ball with Fred at the courts in ellsworth Maine.....
I had to get my annual State inspection done, the Truck was in central Tennessee, I'm in West Texas, drove out there for a bit of fellowship then started driving to (you guessed it) Texarkana!! Double Round Trip on a Mission from God, y'all are great , Peace3ed
I would love to see the postmortem on the engine and suspension parts.
This was a completely awesome story. Great memory.
Great story, but no mention if anyone’s done it in a loaded semi. Remember, Snowman also did it in the same amount of time in an old KW.
He did it in 27:59 minutes
Sounds like we need a semi lol
And he stopped to fight some bikers and have a swim while he was doing it.
As I listend to the story about the exit at 100+ mph I was like - that’s pretty normal in Germany. I don’t see any problem with that. 18mpg for a mustang also seems quite economical. I mean for real. In general it’s just so bizarre. I really love the spirit and the videos here but just remembering that this is your normal way to work in Germany, that’s something else. Even my daily fuel consumption is worse than 18mpg and I’m definitely not alone with that. Crazy world.
That’s awesome. My father and I did our first skydive together back in 2005; I did 750 more jumps after that, but I’ll always remember the day we did ours together.
We need to hear big Fred's side of things
These just keep on rolling in and I love it
Nice picture dude
@@thatgtrfan4415 thanks
More to come!
Great memory made, that’s one that will last. Doesn’t get better than making a memory with dad.
Fred, you are a great story teller. That was truly entertaining.
Your accent and mannerisms make me homesick...
What a beautiful story, loved it!!
So I baught a car and Oklahoma and flew down from Connecticut with my dad to drive it back. In a round about way we ended up in Chicago chasing 4 bikes who goated us at 130 in 4 lanes worth of traffic. One of the best memories with my pops.
Where did the cannon ball video from this guy go?
Quite possibly The greatest story ever told !
Good video Ed!!! Great car stories are a main reason why I love vinwiki!
That picture with the slim Jim is legendary
The rental company be like 👁👄👁
Why is he listed as "Solo Cannonball record holder?" He's the undisputed cannonball champ, solo or otherwise! 😎
To remind the team that beats him that they didn't do it solo like he did.
Because there is a faster undisclosed COVID cannonball, I believe they are putting together a documentary about it before they go public. I'd guess with the solo record being so fast the outright record actually sits at the sub 24 hour mark and is why they are being so hush hush for now
@@demonsrun3281 good call. Probably correct. Can't wait to find out.
Man I live in Birmingham and it would have been awesome to see these guys tear through!
This is such a legendary story and the fact that the car ran out of gas as they finished just WOW. A true to God SEND IT story
Can we all take a min to appreciate how reliable Ford made that mustang? 😅
No
This dude is an animal. I love it.
The guy they’re looking for is behind em’. Your dad sounds like a boss.
the part is were you got the opportunity to buy food for a mother who is obviously struggling and you could only see how she was inconveniencing your game to see how fast you can buy beer. I think your a great guy and I'm also from maine and I like what you do but it just stuck out to me
I love watching these! This is by far my favorite one so far!!!
Fred's dad is to co-piloting for him what my older daughter is to me...she has been riding in shotgun on road trips since she was big enough to be shotgun. Now she is doing AF ground school- has a GT350
Can we have Ed tell a story sometime soon?
I 2nd that
I will be on to tell some more soon.
3rd comment
Wow. What a cool time with his dad. And a pretty cool dad as well.
Bad ass! Being able to share that with your pops and WIN in a rental... Legend!
The ultimate Beer Run is to Melrose Florida. They sell beer 24 hours a day 7 days a week 365 days a year. People come drunk from hours away because they ran out of beer.
I love these stories, Im from Texarkana so its great.
One of the best stories!
That Mustang has to be one of the most individually accomplished cars in motorsports history. The only Ford that comes to mind to top it would be the GT40 chassis that won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1968 as #9 and again the next year as #6. All in a relatively anonymous silver Mustang from a rental company.
Last time I was this early, the King Cobra was still in the junkyard.
So did/are you banned from rentals now ? 😂
This man NEEDS to be the 4TH member of CAR TREK. This is the epitome of TREKKING
Well now we know Fred is a liar.
yep
For a second there, at the very beginning of the video, I thought that was No Neck Ed from 90 Day Fiancé
Yeeeeeaaaahhhh dude
To hell with Nascar! These Cannonball Run drivers are the real heroes!
Glad y'all didn't kill anybody
Awesome story. Almost dropped a tear !
This guy needs to write a book
Last time I was this early there were already 15 comments saying "Last time I was this early..."
I hit a hole-in-one in front of my seventy-year-old dad and my Brothers. I was the worst golfer in the family. My brother found the ball in the cup. I quit golfing after that, I can never beat that shot.
That's better than the Cannonball story. This old Sailor approves of the Old Man being an integral part.
The gas going out is epic
Congratulations to you and your father sir!
Diagonal across 3 lanes at 3 digit speeds in Atlanta? Oh you mean every day.
To do something like that with your dad too is something to hold on to. Great story
The video of the cannonball run is gone.
yes!!! it was (EvQFDtJUdHw)
Smiling ear to ear! Thank you for the tale
So, no one else noticed the Jetta that "just beat another long distance reccord" with a licence plate that said cannonball ?
