I got pulled over going 135mph in a 75. I was in the middle of nowhere AZ. I was on State Hwy 60 between Love and Aguila. Theres a stretch that is 27 miles thats flat and straight. Ive driven it MANY times on the way from Prescott, AZ to LA, CA. This time, I was by myself with no wife and kids and in my modified 2008 WRX (VF52 turbo, DP, Full Exhaust, Tune, Intake, bigger brakes and upgraded suspension). Ive never seen a cop on that stretch and I figured I was cleared for a top speed run.
I was getting closer to the stretch. I hadnt seen another car for a few minutes. It was in the middle of the week and traffic was REALLY light. I was going about 85 and then realized I was on the part of the hwy I was waiting for and then just went pedal to the metal. About 10 miles in I saw a glint on the hwy and just figured it was another car. It was another car. An AZ Dept of of Public Safety (DPS) patrol. I realized it too late and let off the gas as we passed. I cruised for a few moments and then hit the brakes.
In the rear view mirror I can see the trooper hit the brakes, make a u turn and hit the lights. I stopped as soon I could. Pulled over. I rolled my window down and turned the car off. I put my license, insurance and keys on the dash. I pulled my gun out (I left it holstered) and set it on the seat in plain view.
As he came up I, I had my hands on my steering wheel and let him know immediately that I was armed. He said "Dont reach for yours and I wont reach for mine." He then asked me if I knew how fast I was going I said "Yes.". He said I got you at 135mph. I told him I was going 140ish before I saw him. He asked me if he was going to find anything on my license when he runs it. I said "If you give me a ticket this will be the 1st one in about 10 years." He replied "Oh youre getting a ticket today."
He went back to his cruiser...luckily it was only 80-85 so it wasnt too hot waiting for him. I left my hands on the wheel to whole time. He came back and said "I'm going to need to you get out of your car." I thought "Oh shit, Im going to jail."
He said "I dont have a problem with people going 90 out here but do you know theres a ranch?" I replied "No." He continued "Last week a cow got out and was on the road...someone hit it going 100...the driver and the cow both died." He went on to tell me that since I pulled over without him making me chase me and had everything ready to go that he was only going to write me ticket for 85mph!!!!
He explained that since hes only writing me for 10mph over I can go to traffic school and this whole thing will be so cheap. He even said theres online traffic schools for about $40. In AZ you only pay the traffic school not for both the violation and school. He wrote me the ticket and warned me to slow down. I avoided HUGE fines and jail.

Okay, several things I've learned over the years about traffic stops:
1 - Repeatedly calling a cop "sir" will not get you out of whatever trouble you're in.
2 - The cop doesn't personally care what you did, so don't waste your breath apologizing.
3 - If you get caught doing triple digits, the cop's taking you to jail. Shut your mouth and let your lawyer speak for you.
4 - If you're driving a fast car that looks fast, DO NOT wrap it up like a stock car or a Jackson Pollock painting and then wind it out.
5 - DO NOT EVER, AS IN NEVER, record yourself doing something awesome. You call it "Content," but prosecutors call it "Evidence."

I used to be a cop in Georgia, and there are no ventilation systems in the back seat. It is just naturally hot because there is no air flow. I would generally roll the windows down so that way they could get some air flow in the back seat and I would periodically check on them, also with laser, the reason laser cannot be detected by laser detectors until you are the one being clocked is a laser gun puts off one single beam, as opposed to a radar system that puts out 3 billion Waves per second in a cone shape. If your laser detector is going off that means that you are directly being lasered, which is a good idea to slow down because sometimes it takes a few seconds for the laser gun to lock on its Target especially if you have a small car

I generally only did this during the middle of the night when there was minimal traffic. I also left many a trooper scratching their heads with my ZX-11's & H2's. Just have to pick your time & places carefully & of course I never have injured anyone, especially myself. As I've aged over 50, I have shown down greatly. I'm more into face melting acceleration than driving 200 plus mph. To me, it's much less risky & satisfies my need for speed.

Got pinched in 1986 south of Indianapolis on a Friday afternoon around 3:20 leaving school in Indy and headed home in the extreme southern tip of the state. Another guy from school was behind us and I was focused on going fast enough to keep him from passing me... my speedometer read 131 when I glimpsed something in the median ahead probably a mile and a half. I immediately mashed the brakes and scrubbed off 30 and came out from under an overpass where I was sure by that point it was ISP in the median with a St. Regis.
After being sure he had seen me by then, I got on the brakes again and really brought it down to probably 50. [70 340 Dart Swinger with the kelsey hays 4 piston discs, in lemon twist yellow and black buttstripe and hoodscoops]
I got it stopped on the shoulder just a few hundred yards beyond where he had been sitting. Keyed off, hands on the wheel, window down.
He was teeth clinched and asked "w.t.f." I was trying to prove. I only said I was in a hurry to get home, and didn’t realize how fast I was going. He said to come back to his cruiser.
On getting in, I could see his readout was reflecting 118mph. He said angrily that he saw me before the overpass and knew I was going faster than what he had clocked me at. I apologized profusely and was clearly shaking with fear/adrenaline, and he said "Oh, you're GONNA be sorry alright.
He wrote me for 87mph saying he only just got out there and didn’t intend to sit and do 6 hours of paperwork to arrest me, but, he wrote me for endangering public safety, and unsafe equipment, because I had taken the seat belts out for re-carpeting the car and hadn't reinstalled them.
Muttered that I should feel lucky he wasn't arresting me and handed me the tickets and held onto them when I attempted to take them, he said through clinched teeth that if he saw 'that yellow shitpile' even so much as change lanes without signaling, he'd make me regret it. I completely agreed to his admonition. Still not believing he was letting me go.
$278.00 and 3 years probation,, and no small amount of disenchantment from my Granddad.... that was the last ticket I had until well into the 2000's.

2003 - I just picked up a 1998 BMW 323ic in Atlanta and was driving it to NJ with PAPER TEMP. plates signed off on the day before. 7AM on Rte 85 northbound with almost no one on the road. 8 cop cars had stopped someone going Southbound. I was driving with the flow of traffic. I thought all cops were busy so I wanted to see what it had. In 15 seconds I was going 135, and looked in the mirror to make sure it was still safe to do more.
I see this unmarked Crown Vic [no lights on] over a half a mile behind, trying to weave through traffic to get to me. I downshifted and E-braked [no brake lights]. When he got to me as I was again doing 60. He followed for a mile and then pulled along side of me. I turned to him and shrugged as to say, Sorry, you got me, I'm not going to do anything. He gave me a disgusted Dad look, and followed until the next exit 3 miles away, [went to that other stopped car]. I was lucky he was too far away, with too many cars running interference for radar.

They had begun to think the truckers were playing a game with them, but had decided to set up for me one more time, and this time they caught me. He let me go with a warning. Telling me they'd been trying to catch me for so long that his night shift was over and he just wanted to go home. I've been north of 200 mph several times and always thankful everything worked as intended. Whenever I'm out on my early Sunday morning drive I always do an out lap looking for road issues / cops / hazards, and the "in lap" at full throttle once I've cleared any traffic (if any).

There's drag strips and race events all over, which are really easy to be a part of, but people would rather get tickets and go to jail

Rally speaks volumes to mechanical prep. Touching a speed is 1 thing. Holding that speed is an entirely different universe. I own an engine machine shop. Man oh man prep and parts for endurance(such as boats for example) is simply another level.

In the 90's I was pulled over by 10 to 12 Florida state troopers doing 183 mph in a heavily modified Chevy Silverado. They were more shocked it was a truck then the speed! Thanks to the Ticket Clinic it was about $800 in court cost and their fee. Thanks again Ticket Clinic!

I've done multiple road trips south to north and east to west, and I can tell you with all confidence that Georgia State Police is everywhere and if you are 10mph over they will stop you. If you want to make some time on a trip, make sure you do it in another state.

Three times I was busted for traveling in excess of a buck-thirty. Once on my bike. Twice I narrowly avoided getting a red-assed beat down, and the third time I was certain I would be shot. Cops were *not* amused. I recall that they all said something similar: "Boy...this here is MY road, and your ass is going straight to jail". My attorney told me that she would not be standing up before the judge for me again, and to slow my ass down. I also learned that slipping some cash to a trustee goes a long way in making your stay at the old graybar hotel a lot easier.

All things aside, sounds like a terrible attorney. Their job is to stand up for you and be on your side regardless of the charge not shame you for speeding like you're some kind of violent felon (even they get attorneys).

Man! How times have changed! I've been pulled over so many times for 100+ and only got one ticket, (most all of those were 20yrs ago) Clocked at 140 and he knew I was faster because he said I saw the nose of the car dive as you got on the brakes. Got a ticket for reckless driving and drove away. Attorney settled over the phone, $400 fine. All the other times I was polite, admitted fault and agreed with anything they said. I got a few warnings and a little lecture here or there, but mostly "slow it down" and that's it.

I got pulled over in Estill SC. Showed up to court, which was an old house. The court room was so small I could high five the judge. The first officer get up before starting and gives a statement.
My reader gun has certified accurate. My certification in training is up today. 5mph over is still speeding.
Thankfully my officer no longer worked there so my ticket was dropped.

As an attorney (and prosecutor) for over 20 years, I can tell you that a few days in jail is better than a lifetime of depression and regret that would have come with killing a family because you were speeding and caused a fatality accident. It really happens and I hope anyone reading this thinks twice about “how cool” it is to do these rally’s and “races” on public roadways.

    • @wydopnthrtl
      @wydopnthrtl 3 дня назад

Yes... even on a completely empty road most drivers can't handle high speeds and most of the cars out there aren't engineered for them either.
      Take it to a track

I got a ticket going 104mph in a 70mph zone. I thought I was going to jail. Cop wrote me the ticket and sent me on my way. Went to courthouse to find out how much it was. $270. Oh ok. Told the lady behind the counter I didn't want to fight it just pay it. I was afraid if I went in front of a judge they would lock me up for going 30mph over. She said thats nonsense she has seen much higher and I should fight it. Get my court date. I arrive and we sit in a waiting area. The officer who ticketed us has a little room off this waiting area. Called us in one at a time. Askes me my name. Oh yeah I remember you. Mr. 104 in the silver Forester. I'll cut you a break. Your fine is $168 and only 2 points. Before it was $270 and 4 points. I said not going to argue. Paid the fine then one week later got a letter from the court saying I was eligible for traffic school. Paid my $40 and took my class online. No points!

I’ve done a few high speed pulls on deserted highways but eventually realized how risky it was. Now I go to the Texas Mile and Arkansas Mile events. My top speed was 213mph in my CTS-V.

Way to be an adult. Seriously we all do dumb things but someone over 30 driving a 100k+ car like this guy on the highway deserve more jail time and way higher fines.
We all know from being dumb that none of those roads are as empty as we think or as free of road problems.
Watched two lanes of cars hit what looked like a few cardboard boxes instead of recklessly swerving. Turned out to be a few boxes of painted steel about 3/8. 15-20 cars hit it before stopping when going under 60mph.
Just an example of when something is way worse that 20 drivers thought.
And I'd say a lot of them were good drivers because they just braked and hit instead or swerving.
I did the same when a mountain bike came flying out from underneath a car in front of me going down a mountain pass. No left shoulder and the asphalt had been ground off for replacement so groovy as hell. The tractor trailer in front of me pulled over also and gave me a 120 mile ride to where he was going. Took out 3 tires coolant lines and plenty of body panels as just pieces AFTER going under a 18 wheeler.
