FORD FUSION GUARDIAN ANGELS!! I've watched your videos on how to replace the side mirror and rear brakes, and it's saved me a LOT of money. So thank you! I did the regulator yesterday with the help of this video and it went flawlessly. Took me 2.5 hours. Just a couple tips for anyone doing this: I have a 2006 Ford Fusion SEL. The bolts! For some reason the bolts to replace the rivets on the regulator are a real mystery on these feeds. What worked for me was 1/4"-20 screws 1" long, but they definitely could've been shorter (3/4" length would be good). I ordered 1/4"-20 flange nuts off of Amazon to go with the bolts (if you can't find them at store near you). When everything's plugged in and installed and you're ready to drop the glass into the regulator brackets, MAKE SURE the window is in there. It's very easy for the window to pop behind one of the brackets. I plugged in window buttons to test the window before I put the door panel back on. Works perfect. Ford dealership quoted me at $260 (!!) for the regulator plus probably another $150 for labour. I bought the regulator AND new motor for $140 all in off PartsAvatar. Saved me hundreds. Thanks again!
Thank you for this step by step. Saved me $165. My situation was a little different because I had to change the rear door regulator for my 2008 but basically the same steps were involved. I highly recommend if you are fixing your window yourself. Thanks again.
I watched this video the first time I did this on our 2006 Ford Fusion, your walk through of the process made the replacement a breeze. I just watched it again for a refresher as it is time to do it again on the right passenger side. Thanks for this well done video!!!
Thank you for the video! -I recommend is re-clamping the window to the regulator clips before reinstalling the speaker for easier access. -on my dorman replacement from rockauto, I had to push the clips back a bit as I slid the window down in order for it to line up properly. I recommend a second person slide the window here while you keep an eye on the window glass making its way into the glass. -I drilled out the rivets holding the regulator to the panel fine with a normal power drill and used 1/4” bolts with some locknuts, dorman replacement didnt come with bolts so I had to purchase some this really was an easy DIY, not as bad as some comments make it seem, ive had more trouble drilling out brake rotors
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS VIDEO! My husband worked on replacing the rear side window and the passenger side lock of my car, and he could've done it without this video + saved us money for paying a mechanic. Keep doing what you do, and bless you!!!
This was a great help. I followed this exactly. A couple of issues I ran into. 1) The rivets you drill out are what holds the regulator in place, the new part may not have bolts built in and you may need to provide them. 2) Make sure you get the correct side! - Even though I told the parts company the driver side rear, he gave me the wrong side and the widow mounts were pointed the wrong way. 3) The third rivet you drill out ( I used 5/16 ) is for the motor and I put another bolt in that to help hold in place. While not necessary because you have 3 screws that mount the motor .. it seemed to help. 4) It may not be clear that you position the regulator to line up to the holes so that you can tighten them to hold the window. After everything was mounted and secured .. I put the switch in and tried the window! It worked but seemed like a good idea. Really well done . .thanks!
Before you screw the door panel on and door handle once you have you window regular opened up and the window tightened connect your regulator to your window controls and test it out before you put the panel on and bolt it up cause if you don’t have something right on loose connections you have to take that door panel off again. Nothing major and you will be faster the second time around but believe me if you do that mistake you will be pissed lol… good video had to this on my older impala now I’m here to see for the fusion. It’s cake I just need to make sure I have the torque sockets but other that pretty simple ppl don’t let it scare you it’s super easy. Great Video!
Thank you very much for your expert advice. I managed to change my window regulator and motor in two hours and I could not have done it without your video thank you so much
Did the trick. Between this and one other similar video, the replacement went exactly as expected. Question, at the 4:10 mark, what is it that’s being disconnected? (I don’t have that in my 2010, but curious as to what that was)
It's always best to check the function of the window regulator to make sure it works properly before putting the rest of the door together because if it doesn't, you will have to take the door panel back off and whatever else if you have a bad one out of the box which happens a lot.
This video was extremely helpful to explain a job that would cost a lot for a shop to do. Thank You! One thing I learned is how much big rivets are a pain to remove. Don’t waste your time with a drill. Grind them off like the video shows. I messed around with a drill and finally had to get the grinder.
Is it possible to use new aluminum rivets because I can’t find bolts and nuts to fit the holes, btw is it okay that you’re using nuts and bolts instead of the factory installed rivets
This is an incredibly thorough video. Thank you. When you get to the metal rivets....is there any other way to remove those without a grinder? What type of screw and nut do you need if you destroy the rivet?
When I replaced the regulator on my back door, I just took it to Home Depot and just bought whatever sized fit the whole. Since it's going on the inside it didn't have to be an exact fit because the nuts hold it in place.
ah, I figured it out for anyone watching.. my cables inside the little winding mechanism (inside the door skin/plate) were fried/torn. once you pull the motor off, that little mechanism inside the regulator will be able to rotate somewhat freely. you can just manually push the window down into place.
I'm prepping to replace the door wire harness on my 2009 Fusion. Haynes manual says to loosen but not remove the window clamp bolts then tape up the window. The very next step says to lower the regulator all the way down before removing all the regulator asmy bolts and then remove the assembly. This doesn't make sense because won't the glass still be attached to the regulator if the glass bolts are loosened but not removed?
+Mr.Vicious G rep the Burgh Thanks for watching! We don't have those specs available, but you should be able to get a good idea of what to use when performing this repair.
My window is stuck at the bottom and it only goes up and down at the bottom like it's stuck how do i bring the window back until i figure out whats goin on
I did it! I did it! Thank you so much; this video and a few notable comments made this accomplishable! 🙌🏽🙏🫶🏼🖖🏼 My Ford master tech dad would be so proud if he could see me! 🪽

Great video. Confirmed that I’m paying someone to do all this. More power to all you who do it yourselves.

Amazing tutorial video couldn't do it without you guys. I'll always check back for more repairs when needed. Keep up the great work thanks again.
Thank you... just finished the Job.
Thank you very much for your expert advice. I managed to change my window regulator and motor in two hours and I could not have done it without your video thank you so much
Hands-down the best diy videos
Thanks for the perfect detailed video I gotta do a Fusion window regulator . I'll be watching your video while I do it. I saved your video.
Thanks!
A lot more involved than I was hoping for lol
Great Video. One question, how do you attach the window to the two window holders at the top of the rails on the regulator?
Did the trick. Between this and one other similar video, the replacement went exactly as expected. Question, at the 4:10 mark, what is it that’s being disconnected? (I don’t have that in my 2010, but curious as to what that was)
Would a suction cup work just as well for keeping the window up instead of tape?
This helped us twice, thank you!

But how do you replace them & what size are they???
@•• If I'm not mistaken, this video shows the new regulator being installed with studs and nuts which replace the rivets.
This saved my bacon. Just changed the regulator on my 2010 Lincoln MKZ which was nearly identical to this
Is it possible to use new aluminum rivets because I can’t find bolts and nuts to fit the holes, btw is it okay that you’re using nuts and bolts instead of the factory installed rivets

you can drill them out and it window regulator should have his own screws

Best vid step by step ever
Hope you can help me.I replaced the regulator like you showed in the video..When auto up is used it goes up and back down halfway on its own.????
Thank you for sharing this video!
Overall a very good video. Seems to me you didn’t address how to replace the rivets you cut off though?
You dont replace the rivets. The rivets are factory to hold regulator in. The studs and nuts from new regulator are in place of the rivets.
@@davidrobinson3309 Do those studs and nuts come with the new regulator?
@@Seoulmanaja yes they are mounted to the new part
He did address it. He used nuts and bolts in place of the rivets.
Question, my parts didn’t come with bolts and nuts for replacement to rivets, what size of bolts did you use?
When I replaced the regulator on my back door, I just took it to Home Depot and just bought whatever sized fit the whole. Since it's going on the inside it didn't have to be an exact fit because the nuts hold it in place.
Best Video ever .
Excellent video. Great quality and to the point.
Great step by step video, thank you
Is the A1auto replacement compatible with auto up and down function?
so how do we position the window do remove the bolts if the regulator is shot and won't roll up or down?
ah, I figured it out for anyone watching.. my cables inside the little winding mechanism (inside the door skin/plate) were fried/torn.
once you pull the motor off, that little mechanism inside the regulator will be able to rotate somewhat freely. you can just manually push the window down into place.

Great explanation and detail.
My window freely goes up and down by hand and when I press the switch it makes a grinding noise and the window doesn’t move. This will fix it?
No you need a window motor
Great step by step
THANK YOU!!
What exact tools do we need?
also is the regulator come with the screws that replaces the rivets that holds them in place?
What diameter and length mounting bolts replace the rivets?
is these procedure is alike for the passenger side?
I don't have a battery in my car at the moment, is there a way to raise the window to reach the bolts?
Any idea the nut and bolt size to replace the rivets?
+Mr.Vicious G rep the Burgh Thanks for watching! We don't have those specs available, but you should be able to get a good idea of what to use when performing this repair.
What should I do if my window doesn’t go up so I can’t see my mounting bolts ?
Did you figure it out?
What if my window is closed and it only move half an inch? How do I access the bolts to disconnect the window regulator? Thanks!
Jus made my like easier....thank you...
Do u just remove them two bolts if only changing window
How come you can't just buy the motor for the window
At the removal of the FIRST mounting bolt for the panel, ya don’t even say the size you’re using? Thanks.
Well done
How do you know if it’s the regulator or motor that doesn’t work
2nd. Where are you!!!
My window is stuck at the bottom and it only goes up and down at the bottom like it's stuck how do i bring the window back until i figure out whats goin on
I did it guys. But get a mechanic. I regretted everything and then the regulator came off later on like a few months later so I had to fix that 😂
I sure wished I would have seen this video before I started putting it back together
Thank you thank you thank you
I was removing the headboard and the windows stopped working
How can i make them go back up? 😅
With your great explanation this sixty year old grandma just fixed her window.
doesnt look too complicated. I could even do this
Does all that work in the vid and didnt test if the window worked properly lol
HELL NO !! IM PAYING A MECHANIC !!
Bro you didn't even show how to remove the door handle smh
