He has more personality here than his character the 2021 Mortal Kombat movie. Just shows the script was not done right for his character.
He should’ve been Johnny Cage or Scorpion
@@exodustimes4266 no just no no no no no no scorpion no no no NO NO NO JOHNNY CAGE NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO
Basically he was useless

Exactly!!! David Callaham is an awful writer.
I'm east asian, and have trained with the katana for more than a decade. The first thing taught to me was to hold and pivot the sword with my pinky. Yet I've never heard this technique being described on youtube until now. Thumbs up Lewis Tan!!
Well, pinkies up
Yeah. It's called Te no Uchi in Kendo.
he is probably too expensive
Yet he doesn't seems bothered by the fact nobody in this scene is holding the katana as he describe lol
Pinkie swear?😄
Bro's way more likable in real life than his character in mortal Kombat
Hopefully, there will be a movie that will let his personality and martial art skills shine. Into Badland was pretty good, but his character did not have too much depth.
It's been said before: having Jackie Chan on the Breakdown would be the ultimate achievement!
And Jet Li

Hay Lewis knows what he’s talking about and he is very Handsome
I saw Daredevil and thought "oh no don't put poor Lewis through that" then saw 2015 and breathed a sigh of relief.
"there are ways to fall and that's a very good thing to learn."
Ukemi. It's key in parkour
Something every martial artist everywhere can learn. When I teaching a kids class, we always spent the last 15-20 minutes doing ukemi. Reason being, school kids and bullies love to push you around or to the ground. So I would teach them how to fall so it doesn't hurt as much and they have a chance to defend themselves.
That was deep nbs even tho he meant it in another context. Inspiring words
In the world of skating, we call it bailing
I love the Daredevil hallway scene. The fact that they did it in one take with three people playing DD is phenomenal.
i thought the punisher prison scene was better both great though.
Lewis Tan is a great actor, he deserves more lead roles in movies since he’s awesome in several TV series.
TAN: "When you get hit in the face in the ring, you know you're not gonna die."

Maybe a little too personally

I didn't know how knowledgeable he is, super impressive
He knows so much about martial arts! It’s amazing to hear someone with so much knowledge break it down!
I really hope they improve Cole's character and writing for the sequel.
Everything was perfect with this new MK movie except for Cole. Like why? They could’ve had him play other MK characters which would’ve made sense but Cole??
I didn't really care for cole's character to be honest
They could’ve just made him Johnny cage instead. Reveal in the end that his stage name at MMA was Johnny cage & that’s it.
@@sonamtashi7706 I don't think that fixes the inherent issues with Cole's characterization, motivations and overall persona.
His character is not to hard to fix to be honest , he wasn’t terrible but just kind of bland , when I saw the movie I was surprise he had a family , when I saw the teen I tought it was his sister , not her daughter , the way he acts it’s not like someone who is married or has had kids
it’s a real shame he got done dirty in the new film he seems like a rly cool guy
Seems like a really likeable guy and doesn't take all the fight scenes seriously and just enjoys them for what they are. I hope he does more of these (and a look at Bloodsport! ) 🤜💥
He can break down MMA/Muay Thai fights, traditional styles and performance/stunts ... and have respect/love for all. Makes you realize what d-cks a lot of people are when discussing Martial Arts.
Most people discussing martial arts usually don't know martial art. I personnaly never saw a professional fighter disrespecting another style, it was always wannabe pseudo-fighter
He's average at martial arts at best. Who cares if he's cool about breaking it down when he's a nobody in that world. Scott adkins would never interview this loser.
@@cubanref9670 Your comment about other people says more about you than about them.
@@cubanref9670 yes cus scott is so great 😂😂😂😂
@@cubanref9670 “this loser” like you can do better than him at martial arts lmao..he trains everyday like 6 hours a week..
I thought Max Huang looked really good as Kung Lao and his techniques....well he's part of JC's stunt team so enough said.
He was great kung lao
He was wasted in this movie though. I'd rather see Kung Lao's fight scenes than any of the other characters.
Can we get a weekly version of this because I just want to watch him breakdown fight scenes for hours. This is fascinating and I'm crushing hard.
AYE!!
Lewis tan is a beast in combat, and his father is a sight to see in Batman 1989 when he did the back handspring acrobatics on that fight scene. He’s my instant favorite in the MK movie, I honestly can’t wait to see his journey continue in MK2, when it is green lit.
His dad was in surf ninjas too. Love that movie as a kid.

❤ Lewis Tan! He needs way more screen time!!! Im super excited for his upcoming projects🔥🔥🔥🔥
He's a great actor in things like Wu Assassins, so I blame the script for his boring MK character
He was way better in Into the Badlands....MK does make him seem like a bad actor unfortunately. But I believe him in his fight scenes for the most part.
@@seanyonthemic wu assassins was trash tho
I feel like it’s always a bad idea creating a character just for a movie ie Residence Evil. These characters just don’t fit and usually look ridiculous
@@azaria2435 hmmm I still haven’t seen that movie/show. 🤷♂️
In Wu Assassin's he is average at best. MK just revealed how poor of an actor he is. He is also average at martial arts. Wtf are you guys smoking?!
This is such a great video! Lewis did an amazing job discussing the realism of the scene and what it feels like to be punched in the face. I sometimes tell my students it's the best thing that can happen to them because the fear of it gets taken away and you realise it's not the end of the world. Really awesome to hear somebody else explain it the same way!
He's so humble for where he is in life and being able to speak to people and be noticed. He deserves where he has gotten to even though MK writers spit on his talent to act.
I like him. MK is my first exposure to him. Definitely wanna see more stuff he's in.
He has a minor occurring role in "Into the Badlands" but he rocked it.

It's easier and more difficult than one might expect. With a good teacher and good partners you can learn basic self defense in a few months.
Learning how to move and position yourself though, takes years.
Doing that AND looking good in a fight takes decades.

What, when is that supposed to come out(ish)???
@@Lillian.Gao. about fate? It doesn’t have a release date yet
Why didn't we get this exact personality in the movie? He did great, but, I think it would've been better, if we got some more of his personality, whenever possible.
Also, glad for him to reach his goal/dream and combine acting and fighting. I like this guy.
He looks more charismatic and reasonable than he was in mk2021
Really good, good to know how and what you do in each sequence. There is so much behind that scenes we watch!! Informative and easy understandable 👌👀 thank you Lewis tan always 👍🏽❤️😘👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Lewis Tan, taking reviewing movie fights and using them to teach life lessons. ❤️
Thx for sharing. I ♥️ those films. Lewis Tan is one of my new favorite actors/martial artist He’s awesome 🤩
I wish he had The Protector in his list 😉
yo love your vids man. your content inspired me to make my own, just seeing your growth over the years. keep going man you’re doing great!
Checking out the rest of this later. Cool video. That newer MK movie with him, Joe Taslim etc etc. is without the shadow of a doubt my favorite movie, period !!!!! Every one of ‘em on the cast did great !!!! With Mr. Lawson’s Kano, I wasn’t anticipating laughing so freaking hard. 🤣
I was hoping to see him talk about Captain America v Batroc fight scene. One of my fave fight scenes.
My all time favourite is Liu Kang vs Reptile 1995. I got so hyped on that scene I smiled and once the film ended I jumped for joyed I loved it to death.
Great video and awesome guy! I love when at 17:05 he´s like one character´s moving at the beginning of the MK game, before the "Fight!!" XD
“He knew he rocked me” 😂😂😂 thats real
Can we please have a break down where Ants 🐜 break down movies like Ant-man ?
AHHAHAHAHAHAAAA

Wouldn't mind a good ole Ant Bully breakdown
lewis tan is legit and awesome!!! good episode
The daredevil hallway scenes are so good.
Gosh, I love that hospital elevator scene in Ip Man 3, so cool.
I lived for Mortal Kombat and Ip Man. So happy to see this!
This was fun! Enjoyed his input greatly.
This Dude Seems Really Cool and Super Chill...
That little detail about the pinky and why they cut it off is so cool
Criminally underrated he deserves a character done right that let's him show his real talent
I learned a lot in this video
bro he was good in mortal kombat! i liked his character.
He did the Joey pointing the TV! xD I love this guy so much, he's so funny, please someone give him an action comedy or something.
Musashi Miyamoto spoke of fighting multiple people alone with a katana in his Book of Five Rings. He described it in detail, and said it is important to constantly move until you have them grouped together, and then cutting them down viciously. He also said, like a Hawk trying to catch a sparrow, you can't just fly into the flock or you'll miss, but if you focus on one sparrow at a time you'll succeed. So, I know he was the Goat, but fighting several people at once with a katana can be done, and has been done
the part where jet li took that dudes gun apart might seem unrealistic but it is real. that gun is a Beretta and it allows you to remove the entire top of the gun. it has two buttons on each side that let you do it.
I thought the exact same thing. He's apparently a martial arts expert, but spoke confidently about the gun while obviously knowing zip about firearms.
@@thareelhelloagain yeah precisely, still had a good break down of the scenes. one thing ill give him credit for is , the odds of you actually being able to grab the gun and hit the two buttons without being shot are low. the bad guy would have to have slow reaction time.
Correct me if I’m wrong, I’m mostly going off of an episode of Forgotten Weapons, but at the time on that model (92FS) all you needed to do was rotate a lever on the front of the gun down and forward about 135 degrees. You can actually see that they filmed that shot by just already having the lever rotated forward when he grabbed the gun.
In the episode the host actually did it a few times and showed how it could be done with minimal training. He even speculated that the ability of an attacker to strip the gun might have contributed to their decision to redesign it.
Lewis is a real deal. He fights and he looks perfect
Get this dude better films. He’s obviously a star
This is so satisfying to watch... Makes me want to take Muay Thai classes again
Muy Thai is my favorite fighting art
You can beat me up anytime you want, Amanda. 😉
I need him and the MK cast breaking down their fight scenes in the MK movie.

Put him on Stuntmen React
I'd rather hear the editor explain why none of the fight scenes have any shots that last longer than two seconds.

I like that he did Wu assassins, but I would've LOVED to see him do The Raid. Iko Uwais is one of my favorite film fighters.

I just like it when you said its Batman
I loved him in "Wu Assassin's" and "Fist full of vengeance"
Into The Badlands was such a moment
Man, for as much charisma as Tan has, they REALLY hoe’d his character in the new MK movie. Let’s hope it’s sequel has him doing some more interesting things.
Lewis Tan seems like a really cool guy. I’d love to be friends with him and just hang out.
He should’ve been the Iron Fist
Holy crap that’s actually a dope casting!!
And that's on facts!
Well, there is the thing that Danny Rand is supposed to be a blond hair white person. And I did not really hate the person that got cast for Netflix show granted the story was not very strong.
Yes def!
If original Iron First was asian and this Martial Artist was Caucasian you'd never say the same, Iron First is white and I hate the double standard of only changing white characters but not vice versa...
I really want him to analyze the fight scenes in I Saw The Devil 😩 especially the one shot scene
Mortal Kombat 1995 was a good movie when I was younger.
And still
And still is. I still love it more than the new MK.
Wow, didn’t know that was his father, and that whole how can I critique Batman was awesome.
seems like a chill dude and very knowledgeable about martial arts a true martial artist its just a shame his character is hated in the new mortal kombat movie ,its hard enough to get movie roles when your a minority hopefully this dosent affect his movie career
Mortal Kombat was great for old school fans. Not sure why this movie gets so much hate. It's a solid flick. Not the best but good enough. Why can't people just appreciate "okay" movies and not lose their minds?
The hate is ridiculous. I've been a fan since the first game. Watched the 90's versions hundreds of times even tho a little cheesy at times it's still amazing to me. This was still amazing, especially when these guys did their own fight scenes instead of relying on movie magic or other stunt men. They really put it all out there and risked themselves for authenticity.
Because ok movies are worse than bad movies. They are annoying. You can't even laugh at them because they aren't bad enaugh. Also not good enaugh to appreciate them.
Ok movies = the worse kind of movies.
Well, I'm an old school MK fan and I hated it.
@@MzMaverick. The hate is warranted they had Joe Taslim and wasted him. The fight scenes should have been phenomenal and were mediocre at best and this dude beats Goro, that's just stupid and Shang Tsung was really bad.
@@timross3417 Hate is strong to me, I don't typically take it likely or throw it around. Joe's intensity with his eyes alone was phenomenal to me. If it did not live up to whatever extreme level you were looking for then we all have our own opinions, and that's fine. Could some things be better? Always in any movie, but hate is just a far reach seeing these actors perform for themselves. Easily could have used more effects and stunt people to please masses. I appreciate the story, action and restraint to level that they did. I hope to see more of it grow. Negativity though will not allow that.
He was a beast in enter the badlands and wu assassins.
15:25 anakin: well said brother
The martial arts I do, which is Hapkido teaches you to fall properly also, back break fall, side break fall, and forward (Natbock)
I'm glad that Lewis stated how discouraging it is to be a kid and not see yourself as being able to be seen on screen. This is why my friends and I are making short films where we're the lead roles: to show that Asian-American Boys and Girls are just as good as anyone else for leading roles.
This guy's pretty cool. The new mortal Kombat wasn't too bad. Good video.
Great underused actor and awesome martial artist
I want to see Cole Young wear an outfit similar to Scorpion’s in the Mortal Kombat sequel

What a cool dude.
The Takedown with Max Huang (Kung Lo) "I put a little spin on it" Literally 😏
I didn't mind his character in MK. But I did mind that Liu Kang was pushed into the background (when it comes to fighting, not as a character). I need to see Liu Kang front and center in the next movie, he is the chosen one.
When he said, “He knew he rocked me.” 😂😂😂 I died laughing! Admitting that he got beat during a fight.
