Brad Allen in "Gorgeous" against Jackie Chan, did the triple kick in the air -- which is what Keanu Reeves did in that scene in "The Matrix" but Keanu Reeves was on a wire to do that. @@micahj894 Yeah it's odd. @@Billy-bc8pk I wouldn't say every martial artist studies those. Its actually crazy how effective that wonderboy can utilize karate within the ufc. He can beat most in his divison at welterweight, and another title shot isnt too far out of the realm of possibility.
It's not at all surprising, he doesn't just do karate. Tons of martial artists have a base in or have incorporated some style of karate or other traditional martial arts into their style; the best welterweight and imo best p4p fighter ever, Georges St. Pierre, started with kyokushin karate.

Being confident in your ability and knowing that you are better than you sometimes feel and 2. In my experience so far, very few people that get to a decent level, let alone the proficiency of Mr. Thompson here, are the stereotypical "I just want to punch some people". You need lots of patience, good mental health and a tactical mind for competetive martial arts. He is pretty exceptional though :-) Also a good entertainer. Its fun listening to him talking.

A few things that I find especially psychologically important that have and do help me out in competitive situations that Stephen Thompson mentioned are:
1. Being confident in your ability and knowing that you are better than you sometimes feel

2. Having fun and not letting a fight get to you
