Also - a good squeegee hack. Buy some rubber/vinyl cove base. When your squeegee blade eventually fails, just drill and bolt on another blade using wingnuts and the cove base. I've been running the same handle over 30+ jobs with replacement blades for about $4.00 per foot rather than $30 a squeegee.
Great job with prep, installation and explaining the whole process. Just so you know, you have ‘control’ joints and not ‘expansion’ joints. Expansion joints are normally caulked to hide the felt material used in between the independent slabs of concrete. control joints are simply shallow grooves used to control cracking (concrete is still one slab). Applying epoxy in the control joints has no impact on the performance of the concrete. Nice vid!

I'm wanting to do a 3 stall garage and may buy two kits epoxy and 1 gal clear coat. Can I lay the second kit on top the first one right away? Or do I need it to dry, sand it, and lay that down?
I'm sorry I didn't understand what you mean exactly. If you already have epoxy on your garage floor and you want to redo it and make it look something like this, you should grind and remove the existing old epoxy first thing first. And then you can apply this new epoxy onto your garage floor. If it's a bigger garage floor and you need multiple kits to cover the entire area you can mix one at a time and apply them on the same day . The clear coat needs to be applied the next day right after cleaning the chips. Just keep in mind that your clear coat is the most important part of this project if you want this to be washable and if you want this to last for a long time it's best to invest in a very high quality top coat that goes exactly what the product that you applied on the bottom and also you want this to be non yellowing so it doesn't yellow after sometime.
@@renovationschool8818 im doing it on a newer floor. No paint or coating. I plan to use the company you feature in this video and am wondering if the 3 gallon kit plus clear coat will be thick enough for my 620 sq ft garage. If one kit isn't enough, ill have to buy a second kit and am wondering if I do two kits can I lay all the material down, from both kits, at the same time or, do one thin layer (1 kit) and have to do the second kit at a later time?
@garageganggyms you will need 2 epoxy kits and maybe you get away with one clear coat kit (maybe) Mix the first epoxy kit and apply it. that will get most of your garage covered when it's done in a new bucket mix the second kit and apply it to the rest of the garage right away . The open time for the second coat is 3 to 6 hrs. In case if you want to apply a second coat of epoxy it has to be applied at least 3 hrs after the first coat was applied and max 6 hrs after the first coat was applied. Keep in mind it's summer and it will dry up 3 times faster. If that 6 hrs window is passed you have to sand the first coat so it's scratched and then apply your second coat because it will harden up so much and it will be shinny and supper smooth. if u apply your first coat and throw the chips on it , you really don't need a second coat. One coat will do great.in my opinion 2 coats is too much .It's been 2 years since I've done this garage and despite all the abuse it still looks like the day 1 . So I think one coat is already very good enough.
As i mentioned in the video you are best to contact your local epoxy supplier or a concrete specialty store and ask them for 100 percent solid epoxy , im sure they can help you.
Thanks for watching You can see that my garage is a 2 car garage and it's slightly bigger than a normal one. For this garage I got away with using one pack of each product.
I was doing some research and came across your video. Awesome job! I was going to install Rust-Oleum EpoxyShield, but your video has inspired me to use 100% epoxy. I have a 2-car garage roughly 20x20', 400 square feet. Would I need a 3 or 4 gallon kit? Since its my first time and you recommend only mixing half and installing half of the garage... are there any issues that you have worry about when feathering the first half to the second half? Thank you in advance for the info.
Thanks for watching 🙂 one kit was enough for this garage , its a 2 car garage also you wont have any feathering issues as the flakes will cover all the imperfections.
It's called a flooring scraper. If you go to the home depot they keep it at the flooring section. It's just for removing glue and concrete from the floor.
Yes you need to wash the tiles first and then theres a primer that goes on then you can do the epoxy. I have another video explaining how to tile over tile , its best if u watch that too.
I don't rememy honestly It's the uv protected clear coat by the same company who makes the epoxy I showed the container in the video You can watch and see it

If the clear coat was not used that will happen, I used 100 percent solid epoxy and after 2 years it's just as good as the first day that I got it done. Keep in mind I park in this garage every single day and I abuse it a lot with my tools, you will see this garage in many of my new videos also, cheap tires will also leave black marks on floors. when you drive around the tires get hot and when u park the car in the garage you will get ugly black marks on concrete or whatever flooring system you have. If the right product was used it will be cleanable. I don't know your definition of a pro company. pro companies must use good quality products and they must be responsible for their job quality and they always give you warranty. I always give 2 year warranty on my epoxy floors, I have done over 50 in the past 2 years and I've never heard anything back from any of them. Thanks for watching and all the best 😊
This wet sander works much better when it's wet If u dry sand it it will be too dusty and it won't cut as much. After wet sanding I pressure washed it and left it for a few days to dry up. I did it in very hot summer days after a few days that it dried up then I applied the epoxy.

@garageganggyms you will need 2 epoxy kits and maybe you get away with one clear coat kit (maybe)
Mix the first epoxy kit and apply it. that will get most of your garage covered when it's done in a new bucket mix the second kit and apply it to the rest of the garage right away .
@@renovationschool8818do you have a recommendation for a kit that would cover 650 square feet so I don't have two buy 2 kits and waste 2/3 of it?
@@garageganggyms just check your local epoxy sellers and see what options are available in ur area.
United States version you recommend for all our US folks? website or link or name of recommendation of something similar down here in the states?
As i mentioned in the video you are best to contact your local epoxy supplier or a concrete specialty store and ask them for 100 percent solid epoxy , im sure they can help you.
Would you mind to please tell me the size of your garage. Mine is 716f2 and I am trying to figure out how much I should buy for each product. Thanks
Thanks for watching
You can see that my garage is a 2 car garage and it's slightly bigger than a normal one.
Thanks for watching 🙂
one kit was enough for this garage , its a 2 car garage also
you wont have any feathering issues as the flakes will cover all the imperfections.
Great video. I learned a lot.
Is the grinders primary purpose to create a porous floor so the epoxy adheres well?
Thanks for watching, yes the grinder itches the surface and the epoxy adheres better.
Please help. Do they sell just the clear coat, has some tires marks. Need to remove clear coat and redo the clear coat. Make sense? Help
They do
you cant remove clear coat, try cleaning it with denatured alcohol it should come off
How long did you wait before you filled in the expansion joints?
Just a few days should do it
How slippery is it when wet?
Not at all with the flakes
What was the last tool you used to remove loose flakes, Jack
It's called a flooring scraper. If you go to the home depot they keep it at the flooring section. It's just for removing glue and concrete from the floor.
What products are you using? Where do we get them from??
Please watch the video in full, everything is explained
Can I use this epoxy method for Bathroom floor tiles in shower area
Yes
you need to wash the tiles first and then theres a primer that goes on then you can do the epoxy.
I have another video explaining how to tile over tile , its best if u watch that too.
Thanks. Plz uplaod video epoxy method over old tile floors in bathroom
For new concrete, do I need to grind the surface? or just simply brush cleaning it.
Grinding is a must for the best adhesion.
Thanks for watching.
Very detailed video 💯, thanks much👍.... feeling confident now that l can do my own floors,l just got to find that exact eproxy ...

Is the clear coat your are using 85% solid?
I don't rememy honestly
It's the uv protected clear coat by the same company who makes the epoxy
I showed the container in the video
You can watch and see it
Love the video! Wondering How many pounds of flake did you buy? Looking to replicate exactly what you did with my garage, but not sure if I need 5lbs, 25lbs, or 40lbs of flake?
Thanks a lot for watching I used a 40 pound bag
Also wondering if you did end up mixing that anti skid additive in your clear coat and how much you added?
I did not use the silica sand after having the flakes you already have a very nice texture so there's no way that you're going to slip
Hi, I like your video, would you please type the part numbers of the items you used paint, flakes, etc... ?
Thanks for watching
Like I mentioned you don't have to use this specific product.
There are many epoxy stores around you that have very similar stuff with different brands
The whole point of my video was that you can buy good quality materials right from your local stores for a fraction of cost
@@renovationschool8818 what about using Polyurethane?
All of them were purchased from a local area
It's not called polyurethane
It's some kind of an epoxy top coat
It's not like the polyurethane that you use for wood
How many gallons for a standard 2 car garage?
That depends on the product that you use.
Hi, how much epoxy, clear coat and flaks do i need for 650 square feet?
Around 2 gallons
Can you send the link for the epoxy and flakes. The company came up but I can’t purchase it. Can you send me where you bought it from? thanks
Thanks for watching 😊
I beought it from a supplier near me
The store is called Target building supplies in Windsor Ontario , Canada.
Again as I mentioned in the video you don't have to necessarily buy the same product. Just find epoxy suppliers in your area and ask them for 100% solid epoxy and the flakes. It will be able to give you other products just like this one.
Great video. Looking to do this for a home I'm about to purchase. How much would you say you saved during this yourself?
thanks for watching 🙂
$4000. keep in mind i used 100 percent solid epoxy
How much working time did you have after mixing part a and part b for the labpox30?
Depends on how hot it is outside
i normally mix half of each at a time and do it early in the morning or late in the afternoon when its cooler.
the hotter the concrete and the weather the faster it dries up. you have max 35 min , you have o be very very fast.

How much to rent that floor grinder sir? Thank you for making this video
It's like 80 bucks for a full day

U can even use a 7 or 9 inch grinder with a concrete grinding wheel and a shroud and a vacuum set up.
It may come to the same 200 bucks price again.
Check some other rental places in your area hopefully u can find some cheaper prices, explain what you wanna do and they may have other options also.

Hello love your video! So instructional. Would this be OK to use? Rust-Oleum® Concrete Saver® 6500 System Tile Red 100% Solids Epoxy Floor Coating. Thank you
Thanks for watching 🙂
I checked the specs and it seems to be a 100 percent solid epoxy but the price is very high for the amount you get.
I recommend contacting your local epoxy stores and see what they have available. You maybe able to find better products and better prices. Plus your local epoxy suppliers will tell you what product is mostly used in your area.
I personally am not a big fan of rusoleum products. Most their paint is cheap quality. I have not used that epoxy you mentioned at all but it's my opinion about rustoleum in general.
@@renovationschool8818 Thanks for the quick response! I really tried all day yesterday to find a supplier and was really having a hard time. I don't know where to find 100% epoxy or anywhere close to that. Big box stores definitely don't carry it.

Do you recommend grinding the garage floor even if the house looks is a brand new construction?
@@renovationschool8818
@@Lite3102 100 percent grind it, grinding is to bond the epoxy to the concrete. when they pour new concrete, the water from the concrete comes to the surface so the very top part of dried concrete is very weak and mostly shiny and slippery. by grinding we get rid of that fine layer and we scratch it so when we apply the epoxy it adheres better.

@@ninjip3460 I don't know how thick u are gonna go
For my garage I used 1
It's best to buy 2 so when u do it in case u are short u have it right there
My friend had this done by pro company and the heat of the tor tires started to make floor peal where the wheels came to rest
How do I join your school?
By subscribing 😉🍾
Why do you wet it to sand it will just come back up and your epoxy will not set right
This wet sander works much better when it's wet
If u dry sand it it will be too dusty and it won't cut as much.
After wet sanding I pressure washed it and left it for a few days to dry up. I did it in very hot summer days after a few days that it dried up then I applied the epoxy.
No primer was needed? Why was that?
I had the best adhesion without
If u want to do it , do it
i tried to buy but website wont let
