    I love how you have to navigate past a child's dumper / buggy (4:35) with actual tools in the back ! Reminds me of visiting cousins in Ireland when we were kids and the barn was a big playground full of mini ride on tractors and dumper trucks! Looking forward to seeing the barn build unfold. It's coming along really well!

    Regarding footings I don't believe them to be 'over engineered' as such, the purpose of foundations is to resist ground movement, so it is not all about what is being built above them. I do not know if it is going to be trench fill or strip foundations on the West side but a reason why people go 450mm or 600mm not 300mm is it's a lot easier to lay the blocks then. The other thing is foundations have to be on stable ground, which can only be determined at the time of digging. Would be great if you do manage to do a video on the foundations as a whole.

    Your overthinking it, no pump needed for that job so far as I can see :) it's a dream!

    We had a concrete pump for our ICF extension and it was a day rate, it also wasn't outrageous and they came from down your way as well. Loving the progress and the pets ensuring quality control with daily inspections 😂

    Hi Tom. Great to see Tim get some help.

    Think Tom Lamb had a video on pumping, mixing on site or volumetric mixing for one of his barn builds, worth the watch.

    If you’re going to get a pump and pour all the concrete all in a day, you’ll need some serious help with you for that area and a pool. Call in the troops!!! You’re making great progress, well done to all.

    In my experience (of 1 double garage pour!) Pump was expensive for what I needed but was still the best option. Day rate yes but you will utilise it to the max, be money well spent 👍

    Sad news about the cat!, trouble is we get to attached to our pets, good luck with the build!.

    get the pump, concrete is difficult enough. You'll have enough worries, don't add to that. The trucks may mess up the rock/sand base.

    I bet that within 1-2 months, you're going to have a moment where you will go; "Damn.. I actually did need those barn gates", hahaha. Anyway! Great progress!

    Wouldn't you get more money for the steel if you sold it at a scrapyard?

  • @tdufault1
    @tdufault1 22 дня назад

    Are you at all concerned about bracing now that the end walls are out? Seems like you might want to consider some temporary cable bracing until you can return some stiffness back into the frame. Looks like your having a blast though so keep on :)

    • @TheRestorationCouple
      @TheRestorationCouple  22 дня назад +1

      Was going to have some temp cross steels welded but now the intermediate posts are going cable will be better like in the other barn here. 👍

  • @TheDranny
    @TheDranny 21 день назад

    In the spirit of Timbo over engineering, how about cutting the waste steels and using them as free rebar (freebar) to link into the existing footings when you concrete them in?

    • @TheRestorationCouple
      @TheRestorationCouple  21 день назад +2

      Have actually removed most of the existing this week as turned out o. be easier to just start over. They will have their uses though dont worry

    I can never understand why the council rules would oblige you to maintain an original big ugly recent barn to build a house. If it were an old say 19th century barn or older I could understand it. Massive house, but love your guts to just work with it and make a beautiful home for your family. But really, they should reconsider those rules cause those are ridiculous.
    In the Netherlands we have a big problem with empty barns and nothing is permitted to do with them. No caravan storage or business or car repairs, just agricultural stuff or tear them down. They're terribly afraid 'plants for smoking' are grown in them or fireworks are illegally stored. So they devised a plan that if you have permission to build a house somewhere in the countryside (lots of rules), you need to buy up someone else's old barn and pay for demolishing it. Then the virtual space is added to your tab and you can build a similar space. So you basically pay for air.

    • @dannymurphy1779
      @dannymurphy1779 21 день назад

      You can simply apply to build a replacement house though, which is what many people now do. So there are no rules stopping you as such.

  • @73Ferret
    @73Ferret 21 день назад

    Not really a barn conversion is it. Basically you will be decorating the outside of a new build with agricultural style materials.
