- I've been coming to Thailand since 1987,and spent around 30 years there altogether. Here is my story, along with a picture presentation. In this first part, I was exploring Bangkok, Pattaya, and Pukhet, between the years 1987-1993. Part 1/4, to be continued.
Nice story my friend 😎
thanks for sharing your story - what a great time to be there
Indeed Simon. I had no idea at the time how fortunate I was to be there,or should I say 'be here'..... It's priceless, and fortunately, at least the memories stay. I am more than happy to share them.
Thanks, great stories, and great video. I must say, it left me wishing I had gone over there sooner. When I go again, which will probably only be next year, perhaps the answer is to find a smaller area than BKK/Pattaya/Phuket. It might be a better option. The worst thing for me was taking a trip out from Phuket to a distant island, then finding a gazillion tourists there.
Indeed...mass tourism hasn't made any place better,but sadly,worse..
Loved this. Thank you for telling us your story. It must have been so special. How lucky you were! With best wishes.
Thank you! Wonderful memories ...That's all I have left ...But it's still something valuable.
Liked the 80s photographs. Nostalgia. I was there for a couple years in the early 70s, and for ten years working for a company from early 80s to early 90s. Big changes from 70s to early 80s, everything changes to the 90s. Quite familiar with most of Thailand from those years of living there.
I wish I had taken a lot more photos.. Actually, I did, but I can't find the rest. I bet you must have amazing memories from those days. Maybe you should share your photos as well. I bet many people wouldn't mind seeing them.
@@onshortnotice9600 Learning to speak the language reasonably well (I had a private tutor for a few years) certainly opened a lot of doors (and understanding the cultures that I would not have otherwise. Also, it was necessary for my job. :-)
@bacca71 makes perfect sense. I wish I could have experienced the 1970s here...
@@onshortnotice9600 It was much less crowded, traffic was rarely a problem, and there were a lot more navigable khlongs (they covered many up to make new roads - and that caused a lot of flooding by the 1980s) -- and everyone a lot more laid back.
Wow what memories to have.
I can only wish i went there in the 1990s or early 2000s
When i was a young traveler.
Great video 👍🏻
1988, airlines IATA training in Thai headquarters near Don Muang. I will always remember the shock when a few days into our class, our taxi took us to Patpong and our first bar was an upstairs agogo with 20+ naked girls dancing...
Wow,you really know what I was talking about.....😉
Thanks for sharing the old Photos
Welcome. At least they won't go to a complete waste...
I wonder how any of you old timers compare the Thailand of the 1980s with today's....
I hate all the crowds of tourists these days, but the average Thai people are still the same decent people, who treat you ,how you treat them.
@@pepelemoko01 The problem is over tourism. It is a natural reaction of the locals anywhere where too many tourists come to get a bit defensive, unfortunately. Back then the tourists were far fewer and that much more appreciated by the locals. The tourists back then tended to have more money and the locals less. so the welcome was bigger.
Nice story big bro 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼 be safe out there 🙏🏼 life is to short! Live life to the fullest 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼
Thanks Mike! Likewise!
