I love how you described every paint color. This is exactly what I was looking for. Picking a color with the wrong undertone can be an expensive mistake so I appreciate the information. Thank you! You got a new subscriber.
Thank you, thank you, thank you! There are so many beautiful shades of neutral and so hard to figure out the differences. Thank you for your expertise! You saved me so much time and money! 💖
We are renovating a 2003 built home (lots of mustardy yellows, dark creams and drab greens!) and the primary color we chose is a warm white called BM Cloud White. We also considered similar warm white colors such as Simply White, White Dove, and Greek Villa. The key thing is to test samples on your actual walls, in different rooms, and at different times of day and see how they interact with natural light, artificial light, window treatments, floor colors, ceiling color and even outdoor scenery (like trees, which might reflect green into your spaces through the windows). Floor reflection and undertones have a big impact on how paint reads. And of course it’s a deeply personal choice. Another thing we are learning is that multiple shades of paint in the same general color can add depth and interest to a space, eg slightly different shades of white for ceiling, walls, trim, etc. This gives your home a sense of layers and history. We are learning as we go!
BM Cloud White is a beautiful white, and I'm so glad to hear you tested multiple options. It's truly the best way to ensure you end up with a paint color that will look great with your unique lighting conditions. Sounds like you're making some fantastic design choices!
I really like that you use drapes the same color as your wall color-this is exactly what I prefer too. I want the drape to blend in rather than standing out.
As an Interior Designer, I am surrounded by exposed brick.....I live in an English Industrial Rowhouse.....my insperation was the color of the mortar between the bricks.....I chose Valspar's Woodrow Wilson Putty.....very little contrast with the ceiling white....the color of my level loop carpet was inspired by the outcropping of the foundational stone, exposed in my dining area....just gorgeous....
I’m a 33 year old man that is doing a first time DIY project to paint and floor our house and you have no idea how much your video just helped me. I got so overwhelmed with all the gray/beige/greige paints. We are getting the paint from SW and based on your video, I think we’re going to go with the Agreeable Gray as it seems to be a good greige color. Based off of your video I picked up 3 samples from Lowe’s today (cheap way to get a sample of SW paint to pick out the color. SW doesn’t have samples in our area). Picked up Colannade Gray, Repose Gray and Agreeable Gray. Tried all 3 and Agreeable Gray seems to be the best greige choice.
I live in Colorado too. Our east-west exposures make it easy to be happy with one color choice when one room has a predominant exposure. But picking a color now for a longer room with equal east west windows is challenging.
Yes, that is a challenge! It's usually a safe bet to choose colors that lean slightly warm, over cooler colors, because they tend to work well with fixed materials (like wood flooring) and play nicely with other colors. If you're looking for a versatile whole-house color, try one that sits somewhere near the middle of the warm/cool spectrum (neutral), but leans slightly warm. For example, a greige rather than a gray, or a muted off-white rather than one that leans more yellow. That should work well in a room with both east-west exposure.
If you're looking for a wall color to go with your trim and crown moulding, you might want to try an off-white or light beige or greige. A nice, light or medium shade that can bridge the wood tones and white trim will look great. You could also go opposite on the color wheel to your wood trim with something subtle like SW Silver Strand.
BM Sugar Cookie OC-93 is a cream color that isn’t white, beige or gray. We used in the the main living areas of our home and I love it! If you chose it, be aware when when first applied it looks bright yellow. I freaked when I first saw it! Three to five days later it looked gorgeous!
Thank you for this video! Im considering beige walls but not sure what color to choose for the kitchen cabinets. I know white is always an option, but think I want something bolder. Can you recommend something?
I live in the desert southwest and in a very open space. All corners are rounded bullnose, so the main living spaces flow into each other and are blessed with lots of natural light. The exterior has a Mediterranean vibe and my aim is a very comfortable transitional interior that feels very comforting after entering from 110+temperatures outside. Only permanent color is our new medium/dark bamboo flooring. Any thoughts? I really need ideas.
This is helpful for someone like myself who is frozen in fear over what color paint to choose. ;) What would you say is the difference between SW Colonnade Gray and SW Agreeable Gray? Also I keep hearing gray is on it's way out. By going with a color in the Greiges category, does that help keep the paint color more timeless? If not, what color is the trend moving to?
I’m a 73 yr old woman, with no experience!! Your video is soooooo helpful. We are building our dream home and have chosen Alabaster for most of the house. The house has lots of natural light, high ceilings. What do you suggest for the trim and ceiling?
Glad it was helpful! You can do Alabaster for trim and ceilings, as well. However, if you'd prefer to go with a more neutral white for trim/ceilings, I recommend SW High Reflective White
Hi there, Sorry I am a bit late to this video but would you k ow where the sofa in the Greige section comes from please? The one with the round arms. I am looking for a replica and have been searching everywhere. Thank you so much.
As a fun of urs i want a beige for my room but between kilim, accessible n shaker beige which wil be nice for a young man like me or can u recommend some for me
SW Accessible Beige is a great one! If you want to go lighter, try BM Manchester Tan or SW Edgecomb Gray. BM Shaker Beige and SW Kilim Beige are classics, but today's trend for beiges is a little more muted.
I'm planning on painting my kitchen cabinets SW colonnade gray what color wall and trim would you suggest, I only have 98 inch high ceilings so maybe the trim and wall color the same?
I have an east west facing kitchen whose windows are blocked by other houses, we are mid terrace, other then when the sun is rising or setting. The cabinets are a pale blue, almost eggshell and it’s a dull dreary room. I’ve tried various shades of white but the cabinets just seem to reflect on to them and make them look pale blue, I’ve tried pale taupe colours and it just looks dull and boring. It’s quite a big room, with exposed beams, and an exposed brick bread oven, luckily the ceiling isn’t too low, it’s about 8ft throughout. It sits in the centre of the cottage with hallways leading in and out, but I am a total loss as to what colour I should paint it. I’m not afraid to be dramatic or to use darker colours but just want it to look more welcoming and warm, to be inviting rather than dreary but don’t want anything too modern that might clash with the heritage style of what is a late 1700’s house. I know it would probably best to change the kitchen unit colour but there is an awful lot of them and with the cornicing etc that would be a hell of a Labour of love. The worktop is solid oak and a little too dark for my liking and that is something we are looking to strip back re-oil and lighten. Any suggestions would be so hugely appreciated.
Sounds like a challenging space! If the room is already a bit dark, then I think you’re on the right track by keeping the walls light. Going dark on the walls will only make things more cave-like. You might try pushing your wall color a bit warmer to counteract the cool blue tones from your cabinets. Something like a very creamy white or light beige. Check out BM Manchester Tan or BM Crisp Linen and see how they look in the kitchen…your lighting will likely shift them more neutral
I have a dark U shaped living room in my townhome. The 3 walls have no doors & windows, solid wall on all 3 three sides. The 4th side has the front door & a large window with blinds that are completely drawn shut. Carpet is off white with a beige tint. What gray or off white do you recommend for my walls ? Ceiling is Chantilly Lace. I put a classic gray sample on all 3 walls. It looks darker and dreary in my room than all the pictures I've seen. Thank you. I do use Ben Moore paint.
If Classic Gray is looking too dark and dreary, you should probably move to an off-white (a lighter, warmer shade will brighten things up). Try BM Seapearl, BM Swiss Coffee, or maybe even BM White Dove
Thank you very much for your information.Would you suggest for me trim color if I have Accessible Beige color of the wall(don’t like white color, cabinets are hazelnut color).Thank you.
It depends. If you want your trim and walls to blend together, you could use Alabaster or Swiss Coffee as the trim color, as well. If you like the idea of a more neutral, and brighter white trim and ceiling color, then something like BM Chantilly Lace or SW High Reflective White would work well. The nice thing about a more neutral white on the trim and ceilings is if you want to change your wall paint color in the future, you won't be limited in color choice, like you might be with a creamier trim color.
You explained each paint color to perfection. 🤌 I appreciate you discussing the undertones and which ones need to be *extra* careful about different lighting and decor choices. Undertones can make or break any color. Very important.

Not familiar with that place, but if you go to a store that sells Benjamin Moore or Sherwin-Williams paint colors, they should know the color you're talking about.
This was a very informative video. I liked your color selections. I realize that for some white's beiges and grieges can be boring, but they do offer flexibility when decorating I love intense colors, but they can become too much over time. They also require more effort to paint offer. I prefer my intense colors to be in the artwork and furniture etc. I am looking for a warm white other than Navajo White. What would you suggest? Thank you & I have subscribed to your channel.
Can you recommend a color for bead board ceiling that is white. Walls are decorator white e classic gray waincoating. It’s a small beach cottage. Thank you
I painted one of my houses entirely in alabaster and thought it would be too white and I ended up loving it. When I went to paint my second house alabaster two different stores did not mix it correctly and had to involve the Sherwin-Williams district representative. He agreed my Painters agreed everyone agreed it was definitely not alabaster but white, pure white -like the ceiling, he did not know what happened. I ended up choosing BEACHCOMBER and absolutely love it. I have 25 ft ceilings that face south and my family room gets so much light that I felt like I needed a little bit more color anyways than alabaster afforded. I was also having to match an existing sofas and this is BEAUTIFUL. This color should be added to your list! I’m considering painting the entire house this color, but I don’t want to get boring . What are your thoughts?
Hi , lovely video and appealing visuals . Can you please suggest the closest match to revera pewter in indian brand colour(asian paint), i was not aware of greiges 😅 before. Now im fascinated to it. Eagerly waiting for your response
Paper white color could look very cold in a bath with tiles grayish white and streaks between taupe and light beige?. The bath hardware is chrome. Thank you for share.
Hello. We are going to paint the interior walls of our ranch home with BM swiss coffee in eggshell finish. I wandering what white to use for the ceilings and for the trim. Do you have a recommendation? Thanks in advance.
Yes, Balboa Mist can appear slightly purple in certain lighting conditions, and not purple in other rooms. That's why I strongly recommend getting samples of Balboa Mist and testing it in your room before committing to it. BM Pale Oak can be a good alternate (less purple). Try a color that has more yellow/beige if your current option is appearing slightly purple.
Yes, and Kelly Moore has a Swiss Coffee color that is slightly different than both of those. Even if a color has the same name, it will be different across brands. Glad that you got samples!!
I was wondering if you know the colours used on wall and trim in the image introducing the white chapter of your video (the one with the couch). Looks like the trim is slightly darker. Love it and in the process of choosing colours to paint this week! Thank you!
Great video , I just recently paint my washroom oak cabinets in BM thunder AF …. Which colour I should go on wall ? In my washroom it’s good size window with lot a morning sun . Plz suggest!!
According to Encycolorpedia (encycolorpedia.com/paints/natural-color-system-ncs) the closest NCS code for Agreeable Gray is 2002-G50Y, though it's a little darker than Agreeable Gray. Hope that helps!
I love how you described every paint color. This is exactly what I was looking for. Picking a color with the wrong undertone can be an expensive mistake so I appreciate the information. Thank you! You got a new subscriber.

Classic Gray is a gorgeous, light whole-house color. Even though it has gray in the name, it has nice warmth to it.

Hi, I live in Norway where NCS system used mostly. What is approximate NSC code for Agreable Grey? Many thanks 😀
According to Encycolorpedia (encycolorpedia.com/paints/natural-color-system-ncs) the closest NCS code for Agreeable Gray is 2002-G50Y, though it's a little darker than Agreeable Gray. Hope that helps!
