What about painting kitchen cabinets BM Chantilly Lace, and then a cream on the kitchen walls? I am going to put my house on the market. So, I need to updated my wooden cabinets with paint and also paint over the pale blue kitchen walls. My master bedroom and master bath is BM Bird’s Egg and I love it, though I don’t know if others will. The rest of my home is a neutral kind of taupe color.
Would have been nice to see the colors up against different wood trim colors. Not everyone paints their wood trim, windows and kitchen cabinets white. More variety would have been more helpful. This still helps though. Thanks.
If I could have every room in the house green or with a green focus of some kind I would. Green is the most relaxing color and brings me so much peace and happiness.
Perfect timing for me, Julie. I am in the midst of selecting colors for my home I just purchased. I'm a light neutral person. The previous owner selected dark gray-blue for the majority of the home, bright red for the dining, kitchen, laundry, and glossy black for master and bath. So I'm priming the walls now before I bring samples in to test in the rooms. I appreciate your show usually, but this one is exactly what I need right now. Thanks.
You provided a lot of really great examples of neutral paint options to consider and the categories that they fit into, along with some beautiful examples to show the colours in real life situations.
Such an informative and well worked video, Julie!! The images are so inspiring as well! Thanks so much! Saving it for future reference! Hugs from Prague 🥰❤
I love your videos. I especially like your views on paint colors. I’m currently working on a refresh of my kitchen. New countertops and backsplash, new flooring
Kitchen walls are currently BM Ivory Porcelain, cabinets are BM Decorator White. New countertops are Quartz- Curava Sea Glass and Backsplash will be Subway Tile in Soft Sage. What do you think about new paint colors for the kitchen walls and Cabinets? Looking at SW Evergreen Fog or BM Saybrook Sage, or BM Horizon?
Time of day, synthetic lighting and the color of your furniture all alter the appearance of paint. Best to sample and record how it looks from day to night 👍
Your video is so helpful. I appreciate how clearly paint colors are grouped, and then you explain what we can expect from the individual categories. Since I know the affect I'm going for, choosing colors from a specific group is very helpful. Thank you!
Thank you!! I’ve been looking at whites for a new home build and have to choose one for the entire living area. This was so helpful! We are doing a like blue gray cabinet
That's the one that stood out to me too. I painted my kitchen cabinets October Mist by Brn Moore. They turned out lighter.than I had hoped but I still love them. Green kitchen cabinets are just so cool. Love them

Thank you for this great video, Julie! The colors you suggest and the images you present are amazing. To answer you question, the ground floor at my house (kitchen, dining room and living room) are painted in a lovely soft green.
Hi Julie I have had green in my home for years. I love green. The kitchen has bm nantucket grey which is green. The dining room has bm soft fern under the chair rail and the breakfast room is also Nantucket grey. It’s a darker color more like the lichen by f and b. I like the taupes but can’t go lavender or purple. It would clash with my decor. My hall bathroom has bm collingwood against the white subway tile. My first floor bath is bm cayman island. My master bath has wall paper to match navajo white in the bedroom. I only use bm. Stay pretty ! Margaret

Im in a new build and we’re repainting. My style leans traditional and I chose SW White Sesame in the Emerald designer series. I love it. It’s a light taupe (warm gray that doesn’t look gray) and it’s so soft. A beautiful choice in my home. We originally had the house painted Sherwin-Williams Alabaster, and the trim is High reflective white, well unbeknownst to me our painter went and painted our ceilings Extra white, which has a blue undertone. This let's me know I'm on the right track! 😊 I'm currently focusing on a library/dining room with a moody cigar/whisky room vibe. I'm leaning towards an olive or sage-sort of green for the bulilt-in cases. The room is quite small (~13'x13') with one moderatly large east window. I'm also trying to determine the walls and ceiling color. The floor is a Pergo white & gray stone-look laminate (as I initially aspired to decorate for all-white a few years ago). Of course, I'll still have to apply a rug. Should walls & ceiling be one color or the ceiling white? Should all be the same as the bookcase, or lighter? Or...what would you suggest??

Such a good one, so much information. Have to watch a few times😊. Can’t wait to see your green bathroom. Julie, can you please make some videos about how to match wooden furniture including floor with neural walls? Thank you!
depends on if you are trying to draw attention to your floor, or mask your floor. Either way, when picking neutrals, the undertones of the paint are what to pay attention to, and you pair those against your styling items and the ones that you want to pull focus towards --- sofa, area rug, drapery, cabinets etc. Because these items bank against the walls, and a wrongly paired neutral wall to a piece of furniture with a competing neutral/ one that doesn't match will look off. So once you find that undertone, you can work within the colour options with that undertone so that they relate to one another. --- if you look at the images shown throughout the video, the neutrals on the walls have a relationship to the furniture, area rugs and cabinets, ie they share the same undertone. If a yellow beige was paired with a green gray sofa, it would look off. Hope this helps 😃
@@JulieKhuu thank you I will watch that one again.Julie. In the future can you please make some videos about the design style of newer homes ( or mid century homes) which have more straight lines and big windows instead of transitional ones with lots of molding.
I did notice my TV has trouble with Black interior colors with 0 LRV. Also sitting in traffic in an all black car interior is depressing. I never heard of LRV before and learned a lot from this video. Your pictures were so bright, natural and cheerful. You used the perfect amount of dark colors. Good Job!
Hi Julie, you mentioned that we need to be careful about which warm white we choose when there is a lot of greenery outside that reflects off the walls and makes the paint on the wall look green. Could you expand on this? Would you still recommend a warm white for such scenario, OR would you recommend going with a dark color for such walls, like taupe or gray?
I would still recommend a white, but choosing a white with a lower LRV can offset how external factors affect the color. Or a white that is tinted in color like brown or even pink
Nice! I chose Drift of Mist for a master bed and bath where I have to blend warm and cool tones together and there is a lot of beige tile that I don’t love. 🙄Fingers crossed!
I love your lists! I have my primary bath painted site white, and my cabinets are stained weathered oak. I added aqua and light teal artwork, and I love the balance and freshness the room has. Also can vouch for pure white and modern gray. They both look great with buidler grade light beige tiles. It blows my mind that people tear up the fixed element when paint and accessories can really update the room.
We are renovating an old house and your channel has been invaluable! What's the best way to pair a warm white wall with a (white) ceiling color? We have a small bedroom with a low ceiling and I want to brighten and it up but still keep it cozy. Should we match the two, go with a classic neutral ceiling white, or pick something more cool-toned for a bit of contrast?
Green is one of my current favorites. I painted my living room of the house we're selling in Behr's Dune Grass. I love the light sagey color and the soft grey undertones. I may use it again in my new house.
Thanks Julie! Your amazing . I need to pick a color to paint my small cottage bedroom. I have frette neutral tone down cover with matching pillowcases with a light beige and grey swirl perline, the floors are a dark hardwood . I’m not a white bedroom person but open to suggestions.
Hi Julie! Any suggestion as to what neutral color to use with a creamy peach floor tile. Can i use neutral green or… what do you think is best? Just don’t have the budget to change floor tile plus the mess😢 thank you very much❤
I would go for something devoid of color like warm/ off-white. Look for neutral undertones if you don’t want to bring out the orange in the creamy peach
I’m planning on having my mismatched color and style (no I’m not eclectic. I’m broke!), kitchen cabinets painted in a warm white. I have overhead lights going in soon, so before picking paint colors, I’ll now wait and see how warm the light bulbs I choose are! I’m in a small basement in-law apartment, with very limited natural light, and the kitchen is in the back, away from any sunlight
At 3:40, you hit on the very problem we have: a west facing window, one smallish bay window and an enormous tree shading the west side of the house. Ontario 🇨🇦 Traditional mahogany furniture. Edit(s): Sherwin Williams White Flour and Roman Column are lovely creams 💖 i like Benj Moore but they always seem to be greenish... Love the comparisons at 7:17
@@JulieKhuu thank you - such kind words. 💟 At that point I was obsessed with pale neutral colours - as we do - and seemed to be raiding the Benj Moore store every few days! 😊😍
@@lisacox5764 the jury is still out on that; we're waiting for the leaves to be off that maple so the living room has maximum light. I should explain the LR has a brown leather sofa, a red persian rug is coming, all the furniture is traditional mahogany with a few white painted bookcases. So the tests are all Benjamin Moore. We were advised warm undertones or neutrals because of the warm furnishings. Three warms: White Down (greenish), Cloud White & Marscapone. And 3 neutrals: Chantilly Lace, Simply White and White Dove (greyish). I think White Dove for the walls. We will see. It's a modern-ish condo, so nothing historical in trim, standard ceiling. Thanks for asking! 💕
Julie thank you again for your paint videos! Love your choices & room photos. Now….. FIREPLACES. 😊 I have a brick (red-brown-beige-black-gray-white “marble”) with black frame gas fireplace & red oak mantel. Wall is SW Natural Tan & trim is SW Westhighland White (love both colors) & facing south. Flanked by two large windows with view of greenery. Cannot afford a fireplace reno, so paint it is. Been thinking a green (like the SW Evergreen Fog) with Westhighland mantel. What do you think?
Julie did a video on fireplace and painting the red brick. She’s all in with that. In fact she goes all white for those bricks! So my guess is she will give you the green light! Good Luck🍀 it sounds terrific !
@@youbetcha108 Oh great, thank you. Yes, white bricks are pretty too. Wondering if anyone paints the grout lines a light gray for contrast, rather than spraying all brick & grout white.
I would go for a white that is similar or the exact same shade as your trim. I love painted brick and prefer to blast the entire elevation so there’s no busy line breaks
Thank you ....what color would you suggest for small room that has built in white cabinets that are yellowing...trying not to paint the cabinets due to expense. It's a sewing/guest room with shutters and west window giving pretty good light. There is never enough light for me! Wish I could afford your talents. Appreciate your help.
I never advise to design around a feature you don’t like. It’s like spending money on a loveseat trying to match an old sofa that was a hand-me-down you’re trying to replace. Either save the money to paint the cabinets yourself or use inexpensive peel-and-stick wallpaper/contact paper to cover the cabinet fronts. They have cute rolls at Dollar Tree! I just bought one to recover my daughter’s play kitchen 😂
Hi Julie, thanks for all your informative videos! I am trying to choose an exterior paint Color to go with white windows and white trim. I want a charming a muted look - but I don’t want white. I’m thinking Shale by Ben Moore, or Balboa mist - both with white dove or Chantilly lace trim. Do you have any videos on keeping a house light and bright but not white?! Any Colours you’d recommend? Thanks!
Evergreen Fog was way too dark for a south-southwest facing bedroom…it appears damp dark green 😏although I ended up picking BM mint chocolate chip, a tad brighter…painted Matte finish was so beautiful nighttime and more cheery to wake up to in the morning 😊 green is just so fussy 😅 we are in the northeast…north facing rooms are a nightmare for taupe and grey 😮
FYI a Farrow & Ball dealer told me that you can’t use any other brand primer besides their own since they have four tones of primer to bring out the quality of their paint. My walls were already primed by another brand since I didn’t know what color paint and brand I wanted to use at the time. So I’m going with Benjamin Moore.
Great video! Not sure if someone else has pointed it out already but the sound is difficult to get through...maybe the mic was too close 🙈 sorry for saying something negative I just really like your videos but I had to turn in mute for this one. It might put others off (unless I was the only one)
Love your videos! Do you prefer a bedroom wall color to be the same as the trim or should the trim color compliment? I'll be going with a very neutral beige-gray wall color.
painting the baseboards and trim the same as the wall colour creates a seamless look where your not accentuating the trim work. Just be careful here because you shouldn't be using the same sheen on trim, baseboards and doors as you would on a wall -- pearl, satin, or semi gloss for the trim items and eggshell to washable flat on the walls. These components take more beatings than your walls when cleaning and in daily life, so they need a higher sheen for durability. And the more pigment your neutral paint has (not an off white) the more the higher sheen will affect how the paint looks. So even the same colour in an eggshell vs. a satin won't look the same -- the satin will appear slightly darker. I recommend painting out the walls, trim and baseboards the same in rooms that have a lot of detailing, like wainscoting, box trim detailing, crown molding etc. and than opt for a really high grade eggshell or low sheen satin and paint them all out the same. In rooms without as much detailing, painting it all out the same can sometimes fall flat.
It depends on the space and my design intent. If you have low ceilings or want to visually raise the ceiling height, paint base + walls + trim + crown the same color. If you don’t have that condition, the sky’s the limit Robin!
Hi Julie, could please kindly advise a warm cozy modern colour from this video to match a dark brown hardwood floor in the living room, great room and dining room ? Thanks
Any and all! 😂 lol I know that’s not much help, but go warmer if your furniture is light, lighter if your furniture is dark. I love contrast so that’s always my preference
So informative and nice video👍 can I ask if my floor and island are concrete colour, (my house has enough of natural light ) what kind of white should I go for ? Thank you for sharing!
Hello! I have so many issues picking a paint pallet for my home. When I first moved in it chose eclectic colors not really thinking about lighting. My living room has one natural light element but the color I chose for one wall is a deep Mediterranean blue. I would like the room to reflect light and seek open with it's cathedral ceiling.
Light and airy calls for brighter colors- perhaps pick up the Mediterranean blue with artwork, area rug, curtains or accessories and keep that focal wall the same as the rest of the walls. Check out my video on choosing a color palette for your home and accent wall dos and Don’ts for more inspiration
Hi Julie I used Benjamin Moore Swiss coffee in most of my house and I love it. I have a brick fireplace husband refuses to paint it but that’s fine she looks also great. I need help with a color palette for accent colors.. Hi Julie, PLEASE HELP! I have all my notes from your video and Maria Killiam's colour system. Together, this system and your two videos are providing me with wonderful guidance for choosing the paint colours for the inside of my home. I am really struggling to find a metallic paint that can work with my fiberglass front door. I can not find any vendor (Benjamin Moore or Sherwin Williams, among others) willing to mix the shiny jewel/green tone colour for my statement door. Thermatrue doors said I must prime it first and then paint with the colour of my choice. Any ideas on who sells metallic-looking paint for fiberglass doors?
I used to use Ralph Lauren, but now you can only get that metallic paint at specialty paint stores. Try Google or Yelp to find one closest to you Michelle!

Lighting and furniture will change how the color appears, let me know how it goes! 💖
🎉great you have it all
Thank you for watching Jose 🙏☺️
I love your lists! I have my primary bath painted site white, and my cabinets are stained weathered oak. I added aqua and light teal artwork, and I love the balance and freshness the room has. Also can vouch for pure white and modern gray. They both look great with buidler grade light beige tiles. It blows my mind that people tear up the fixed element when paint and accessories can really update the room.
Yes I agree about tearing up builder grade. I know someone who now regrets it and wishes she had modernized and refreshed instead.
Tear it up if you’re going to design something fabulous! Work with it if you have a budget or can’t make up your mind 👍
love the explanation on the neutrals. thanks.
Thank you for watching 💖🙏
We are renovating an old house and your channel has been invaluable! What's the best way to pair a warm white wall with a (white) ceiling color? We have a small bedroom with a low ceiling and I want to brighten and it up but still keep it cozy. Should we match the two, go with a classic neutral ceiling white, or pick something more cool-toned for a bit of contrast?
I would use the wall color as the base and go to the top of the paint deck. Let’s say your walls are the 4th/5th bottom chip, ceiling can be 1st/2nd
Green is one of my current favorites. I painted my living room of the house we're selling in Behr's Dune Grass. I love the light sagey color and the soft grey undertones. I may use it again in my new house.
Ooh I’ll have to save that, thank you for watching and sharing!
@@JulieKhuu you’re welcome! Do check out the color. It’s a beautiful neutral.
Thank you, I needed this video.
Thank you for watching Donna 🙏☺️
Really enjoyed and learned from your video! Which color is the one on the videos default picture?
Great pics! Thanks
Thank you for watching Lina! 🙏☺️
great video. paint is tricky for me. it's a huge decision that can really set off or screw up the room!
Sample sample sample! 🙌
Great Video!... Only a little note: min14'10'' Sherwin Williams color is SW 6029 White Truffle
Thank you for watching and correcting 🙏😊
Thanks Julie! Your amazing . I need to pick a color to paint my small cottage bedroom. I have frette neutral tone down cover with matching pillowcases with a light beige and grey swirl perline, the floors are a dark hardwood . I’m not a white bedroom person but open to suggestions.
Warm light-medium beige would be my suggestion. It would pop against the dark floors without reading too white Janis 👍
Leaving a comment here so I'll remember the ones that I liked: Benjamin Moore graytint 15:34 and Behr Nature's Gift 18:00
I love 3000k light bulbs, just enough warmth to feel cozy 💡
Loved this! 🙏🏼
Thank you for watching 🙏☺️
Awesome video🩷
Thank you for watching 🙏☺️
Another great video!
Thank you for watching Stephen 🙏☺️
This video helped me so much!
Yay! Thank you for watching Kathleen 🙏☺️
Thank you again, very useful
At 3:40, you hit on the very problem we have: a west facing window, one smallish bay window and an enormous tree shading the west side of the house. Ontario 🇨🇦 Traditional mahogany furniture.
Edit(s): Sherwin Williams White Flour and Roman Column are lovely creams 💖 i like Benj Moore but they always seem to be greenish... Love the comparisons at 7:17
Ooh thank you for watching and sharing your experience WITH colors called out! Invaluable info for the viewers out there Dyana, you rock!! 🙌☺️💖
@@JulieKhuu thank you - such kind words. 💟
At that point I was obsessed with pale neutral colours - as we do - and seemed to be raiding the Benj Moore store every few days! 😊😍
What color did you paint since you have the green issue?
@@JulieKhuu THANK YOU JULIE, for making the time to reply! Mantel red oak is same as flooring… keep same, or else I’d like a lighter bone stain?
I just painted over my gray walls with accessible beige by Sherwin-Williams 7036 ❤ did my laundry room cabinets in evergreen fog Sherwin-Williams 9130
Awesome!! I’m due for a paint refresh as well!
Hi I’m super late to the chat! What do you think of BM polished marble for an entire house?
So many beautiful colors.
I picked a cream for the exterior of my home and it came out yellow.
Sampling is so important- also the surroundings and time of day will affect how the color appears
Thanks!
Yes! Check out my video on best exterior paints colors for more inspiration. I have an entire section for colors to pair with white trim 🤍
My bedroom has floor to ceiling West facing windows, can’t wait to see how Lichen looks in here Betty! 💚😍
Thank you❤
Thank you for watching ☺️🙏
Like sage green with dark room and linen
The perfect combination! 😍
You can also use the F&B color swatch and get it matched in BM paint Peter
Yes. That's also what the F&B salesman told me.
Great video! Not sure if someone else has pointed it out already but the sound is difficult to get through...maybe the mic was too close 🙈 sorry for saying something negative I just really like your videos but I had to turn in mute for this one. It might put others off (unless I was the only one)
Thank you for watching and sharing feedback Sarah! Will let my team know so we correct this in future videos 🙏😊💖
The Evergreen Fog paint in your picture, I think a livingroom, what is the white color please paired with it
I like the best version of Valspar, eggshell finish.
Thank you for the tip! I’ve never used Valspar 👍
Off-white, warm ivory tones would be my pick
Green sheen paints are the best non toxic. I hate painted kitchen cabinets too trendy which doesn’t stay.
you are love❤
Thank you for watching 🙏😊
Now I have a better idea of repainting my home. We’re new homeowners and the previous owners painted the entire house in gray.
Gray can look dismal if too cool. On the other hand, I love a warm greige!
Hi Julie
I used Benjamin Moore Swiss coffee in most of my house and I love it.
I have a brick fireplace husband refuses to paint it but that’s fine she looks also great.
I need help with a color palette for accent colors.. I am looking at the color wheel and opposite to the brick color is greens and blue so besides all the neutrals I currently have, my floor is walnut.. I am most likely going with blues and greens. Can you make a video about color palettes pretty please
I have a few in the channel now. Check out best color palettes and the entire paint playlist Angela! A ton of tips for choosing best colors to pair with red brick and wood finishes!
I love warm colors
So cozy and inviting 🥰
Very good
Thank you for watching 🙏☺️
Is there any warm white you recommend to pair with cream tile floor around the house? In a west facing home?
West facing will receive a ton of afternoon sun, you might want to go neutral white or warm can read yellow Mariana
Hillo Po. Are you available. Sherwin Williams honied white color. For interior wall. Needed.
What color is at the 16:39 mark in neutral greens?
Great video! Btw what color appears on cabinets here at 2:57 thanks
Use my paint hack at the end of this video to upload your screenshot onto the paint vendor’s site for an exact match
?
..I want to paint my entire house..Do I use colors according to feng shui in that, or do I use white only to paint the walls of my house..?
You can do either or. All my common area walls are painted white and I use decor and accessories to ignite that element / sector
Julie I have medium cherry floors. What neutral whites will go best?
Watch my video on best paint colors to pair with wood Carolyn! I break down so many options and why to pair with cherry floors 👍☺️
What color for the baseboard usually used ?
That depends on your design intent. White is classic, beige is warm, high-contrast is beautiful against wallpaper Kim
@@JulieKhuu I meant the name of the most you have used and it usually in gloss or else ? My baseboards is gloss and old , I would like a change . Thank Julie
