After moving out of apartment years ago i swore i would never have another white wall ... i've been true to my word!!!
Agree, nothing worse than bland white walls. Once I found out how impressive and dynamic color was on walls…. I never wanted to be without.
Just got new glasses and it seems all my walls need painting.
i still love my gray room with white trim...so calming and cool
Same!

Happy to see this start with Hague Blue-reinforcing that there are timeless colors that are not white or beige. If you have an ordinary house, yes, neutrals may be the best bet for a quick sale. Our experience has been, however, that boldly chosen accent colors draw buyers to a house. If carefully chosen, they attract people who like something different but don’t want to worry about choosing the right shade. For example our chartreuse colored kitchen island drew the buyers of our last house just because they wanted to see it in person. They ended up falling in love with the house, which got multiple offers in an area where that was quite rare. Sometimes going bold pays off. 💕
My house was white, beige, and shades of brown. I painted it light blues, neutral greens, and yellow and it looks 100x better. Bold is the way.
oh the relief I felt when you included Classic Gray....
How could I not!
I'm one for "playing it safe" when it comes to colors. I've always stuck with earth tones, like those James mentioned. But, I now see saturated colors such as Sherwin Williams' Naval as timeless. It's rich, luxurious, and stately. I'm using it on two accent walls in my family room and on all of my kitchen cabinets and Island against Chantilly lace on my walls. I think such a deep rich color has such appeal and class for the person who can see that.🤷🏽♂️
We just painted our kitchen cabinets a beautiful teal! It’s bold but so much fun, like our personalities!
Painted my garage a navy/habor/cobalt blue. And it looks spectacular. Navy blue is the move.
I’m thinking about Hague blue
I have hallways painted with SW Hint of Mist. Love it. Yes, it's a cool color tone.
If any of you are looking for good neutral grays for your insides, look to the warmer grays. 1464 light pewter through to 1466 smoke embers are my go to color strings. Also classic gray and balboa mist are monochromatic equivalents. They are oc23 and oc27 but they are also 1548 and 1549. Meaning they are different shades of the same tone. Great neutral grays. If you go too cool, they'll just look blue or green.
We are having our two-story foyer and family room painted with SW Agreeable Gray. We've debated other greige colors and that is the one we keep coming back to. I also like SW Alabaster however, my husband wants a neutral with a bit more color. Choosing the right color(s) can be overwhelming and your videos break it down so it doesn't seem like such an insurmountable task. I really appreciate that, thank you!
I PAINTED MY HOME HOT PINK! SO BEAUTIFUL. UNFORTUNATELY MY GUEST BEDROOM RENTER LEFT BECAUSE I DID. JUST LOVE PINK! CANT PLEASE EVERYONE
We painted several rooms with Agreeable Gray, it’s a very useable color.
I have dorian and repose gray. Love it and am never changing.
Love these blues and always love whites as they show off nuances according to light and always looks clean. Whites are always classic. The home should then have wonderful pops of color that are endless depending on your moods, or seasons. Always go classy
Love white kitchen cabinets. Timeless. ❤
Snowbound ❤❤❤❤. I painted my office with this and call it the happy room!
So happy to se Balboa Mist!! I’ve used it in my past 2 homes and was always happy with it; it was calm without being boring and imo changed through the day and through the seasons as the light changed outside. I don’t have it in my current house as it’s still painted the previous owner’s colours but am seriously considering it because I liked it so much before. (I’m only holding back because I feel as though I’m ‘supposed’ to be over greys?).
It’s crazy how this video popped up on my feed! I’m starting to get ideas on painting the interior of my home but haven’t done any research on paint yet. So far I’ve only watched a few videos on how to fix cracks in the walls. So I’m watching this video and you look very familiar. After looking at your channel, I come across the Royal Fragrance channel you follow and you’re the same guy! I knew you were that frag guy! Now I’m subscribing to this channel. I really like this channel and how you went over the colors. This channel will come in handy when I begin to paint my house this year!
Pro painter here. I bet I use snowbound more then any other color on your list. I’m doing a new custom home in it right now.
Right on!
Thank you for sharing!
I prefer rich dark colors for my home. But there are a few on here that I do like. The Hague Blue has a lot of potential.
I did my entry hall and bathroom in Benjamin Moore's Newburyport blue which is very similar, it is beautiful.
This is a fantastic video! Thank you!
Yes I am here for these colors
I like all of these colors. Thanks
On different projects, I’ve used all those paint brands. I’ve also used Farrow & Ball, excellent paint.
My favorite neutral in Benjamin Moore’s Beach Glass (1564). About the same tone as Balboa Mist, but one is taupe, the other, blue. I’ve had BG on my main walls (including the kitchen!) since 2014, almost nine years, and still love it. It’s a warm, relaxing colour, kind of like a warm hug.
I love the Behr Swiss Coffee. My parents chose it after a roof getting blown off and repair of much of the house situation. It really classed up the joint! The rooms were already some shade of white or off white. This was just a much better shade.
I painted my home Stonington Gray. Its beautifully light and airy.
great video! thanks!
Skimming stone by Farrow & Ball...luxurious, classy and elegant!
Happy Thanksgiving James and family! Your first as husband and wife in your new home!
I painted my home with seashell gray. Nice neutral color.
Be so very careful when using balboa mist. It will read a lavender color in certain lighting.
I can confirm this! Been painting a lot of remodels and new construction. Stick with agreeable gray or another shade. Also alabaster can have like 20 different looks depending on what product is tinted to that color.. I've seen it insanely yellow in a few trim paints! I would avoid alabaster like the plague.
Love the Balboa Mist...so timeless. Greys are classic. Also love the saturated Hague Blue. Happy Thanksgiving!
I love it too! I’m building now and that’s what I plan to use. I’ll add my punches of color with my decor not my walls.
Paying attention to paint colors , because home shopping is in my future. For me, I want an ethereal look to my oasis. If I had to add a second descriptive word, it would be “ spa” style. I love white as a background, but I know there are many nuances to the right white.
A timeless color is Unbleached Muslin by Martin Senour. Found the color in an historic home in Statesboro , GA years ago and have used it in several homes during the years. Sort of an old ivory look that goes with everything.
My kitchen cabinets are painted in SW Alabaster, but I want to paint my lower cabinets a contrasting color. I have black granite counter tops that came with the house. I have been mulling it over for nearly a year. I've been wanting a blue, but now I'm thinking about Agreeable Gray, thanks to you.🤔
Our uppers are white and lowers are SW Distance. I love the combination. Unfortunately, with our darker floors and black counters, the overall look is too dark!
I painted my master bath White Duck from SW. Nice Color in the white family.
I love alabaster amd agreeable! Ams swiss coffee BM !
Love Behr Swiss Coffee and also their Hazelnut Cream.
My favorite is linen white
I used to live next door to an old-time painter- he said NEVER shake your paint tins, it will distribute air bubbles throughout which will transfer to your walls.
Their apprentices had to stir all the paints for at least 10 minutes in a figure eight pattern.
(He also said anyone caught sitting down while painting was instantly dismissed by the boss!)
Why sitting down? How else are you gonna paint the baseboards.
@@Anonymous-wn2wj in those days professional painters were expected to squat or bend over; definitely no sitting- it looked unprofessional and lazy.
@@andersdottir1111 As a short woman, I sit down to paint the baseboards or there are times I even laid down on the floor to paint them. 😂 Thank you for your knowledge.
I’m a painter and I shake and stir if they sat for while and never had a problem
20 Year Professional pointer here... You shake all your paints. And preferably strain it as well before each use. I prefer to use a stir stick drill attachment to ensure its perfectly mixed (does a better job than even the shakers at Sherwin or home depot).
No, you will not get air stirred into your paint. This is the most ridiculous concept I've ever heard of. Also in theory let's say it did, the process of actually using a roller will mash it on the surface and backrolling gives nice even stippling ontop of it. If you were to use an airless sprayer that would literally squeeze out every bit of air while it primes the hose. There is absolutely no need to even contemplate air being inside the paint. As a matter of fact both airless sprayers and especially hvlp sprayers incorporate air to achieve a smooth fan pattern. (in airless the pressure does most of this, but the design of the guard does control the surrounding air to help achieve the perfect spray fan).
No part of your concerns make any sense whatsoever, not even on a theoretical level. Air is important, both in the delivery of paint and the drying process itself. Air is your friend, not some sort of contaminant.
Try litchfield grey- classic and neutral and goes well with jewel tones or teal. It’s really a neat color!
👍
Like your delivery.
I am painting my entire house with F&B Skimming Stone. It is very sophisticated and elegant.
Way to waste your money.
I liked all the colors, but I'm glad I don't plan on moving. I have quite a few neutrals in my house, but also some bold colors and I'm glad I'm not constantly considering resale value when making my choices. My house is better with the colors.
Hi! I love your channel! Do you have any videos for paint colors for homes that water side? Looking for a neutral color for my lake home. The water affects the color.
Crushed Ice by Sherwin Williams is soooo underrated! This one should of made the list
Can you tell me about SW Everyday White? Undertones, accent colors? Thanks and I enjoy your videos!
Best video ever!
I was soo close to using Agreeable Gray in my bedroom, but I just couldn't pull the trigger. I feel like even though it is really versatile greige neutral, I chose Accessible Beige, another SW greige paint color.. I felt like it was more timeless than a more grey tone. I actually love how it looks with lots of whites, my light greys, light blues, navy headboard, and a few yellows and pinks. I have a northwest fac ing bedroom and it is perfect for me.
So tired of grey!
Those greened blues at that LRV remind me of an older man's suite, in 1978. ehhh However, ...
💯 *"The Charcoals with Black or Brown directions are rich and allow Light to pop and colors to speak "*
Door Color Choice, Yes ! 🎯💯
New in here...interesting content &
Love to learn something.
I am buying a house that has cabinets and trim in BM Navajo White. I want to lighten up the walls and am looking for a “white” that will complement the cabinets. The rooms are 2-story with loads of windows and light, the floors are a warm medium dark wood. What would you suggest?
I thought for sure that you would include BM's Inukshuk!
Alabaster really is beautiful
Agreeable gray looks fabulous in our study. So happy with it.
We just painted our living room, dining room, and kitchen agreeable gray, love it!!
We painted our new home in Florida in Agreeable. We used Dorian which is a bit darker, on a few accent walls. I love it!
Behr perfect taupe is great. If you like a certain color, you can darken or lighten them.
Everyone one.these colors is beautiful!++!!
What would you suggest for. Zen bedroom?. I want a peaceful warm cool room.
Yes James...yes, yes, yes.
Awesome video, thanks a lot for sharing! What's your background color, BTW, please?
Revere Pewter and Edgecombe Gray are my go with everything colours
Yes, can't go wrong with those two.
Happy Thanksgiving, James! I’m thankful for your channel. p.s. Off white peas in a pod 😂 edit: added appreciation for peas humor, but now I have a craving for peas (fresh green peas please)
Will you do a video with brick and vinyl color combos
Do we know anything about the Magnolia paint line? It’s by kill, but has some beautiful colors that I haven’t found duplicated in other paint lines.
I am wanting to paint my small Bea house beadboard ceilings s color. I can’t get any positive info on this. . Any suggestions. ?? The walls are 9/ 1/2 high. The walls are decorator white with gray cashmere beadboard wainscote. Any ideas are appreciated.
I am very interested in the BEAUTIFUL rich dark grey behind this guy during his close ups in this video? I am opening a coffee / art gallery and I don't want a light color. what are your suggestions . Thank you, MacKenzie
I was hoping to see some green tones.
Love❤ Sherwin Williams ❤
What are the colors in the snowbound room - particularly on the panelling in the dinning room and on the fireplace
Swiss Coffee in Arizona where I live comes off dated in my opinion. It’s too warm. I need something fresh.
So many whites...
Grays remind me of battleship gray
In regards to the black going espresso or greeny, this is totally the case unless you go with Black Beauty from Benjamin Moore.
I’m watching your video in Australia.WE don’t have any of those four brands you have mentioned.
I was wondering if you have the HEX code or the RGB Codes is there a way to get that color when you go to order your paint with that info with out a name?
I’m a professional decorating and design consultant and NEVER just select a random colour! I work from an inspiration piece!
Love your videos, I wish you did consulting.
FYI, oc-65 Chantilly lace is our brightest white.
Greek villa from SW is the best. Better than Snowbound.
I used Greek Villa on my kitchen walls and upper cabinets with the lower cabinets in a medium wood tone. My kitchen has south and west facing windows.
Hague blue sounds a bit like Tardis Blue for those who know.
Started with great color and went down from there, sadly. I wish people would learn to love where they live and quit that, "what if I want to sell it" idea.
I agree with your opinion when it comes to something simple to change, like paint color choices! 🎉
I don't like dark colors. I do wish there were a few more light colors on this list, but I appreciate less of the really dark moody colors on this list
I love color & we painted every room a different color, but once we painted everything a neutral the house instantly became more bright & cheerful. I also found myself putting more colors into decor instead of the walls. Not everyone paints neutrals for resale.
I agree build what you got. It's like buying a new Vette rather than building the 67 in the garage.
@@YasuTaniinaTo me, the timeless colours are easy to find. Look at the colours used by Wedgwood Pottery on their Jasper Ware. Medium to light sage green, Wedgewood Pink is very pretty. Wedgwood black is a very clear black, almost charcoal. Wedgwood blue is always a classic. Ultra white Benjamin Moore Impervo Alkyd Enamel in a high gloss is lovely on trim, plus it is fully scrubbable.
I am like a lot of people who are not afraid of color. To me, your home should share who you are with the guests who visit. This white, gray and black theme is so sterile and cold. Lets see some colors that would appeal to people who truly want to live in a home that is colorful yet cozy.
Swiss coffee is the best!
So a fancy navy blue and off-black you have to special order. Followed by shades of eggshell and different takes on house flipper grey.
I'm gonna mix up my own color and call it 'Kitchen's painted yellow. Deal with it.'
That's a grat name.
I'm old. I remember when some of these colors, especially greys, were verboten.
Could you make one on silver sage BM? 😊
I am with your husband on the grey. I too find greys depressing but then I love colour and grey isn’t a colour to me. Still my sister loves grey colours. 😁
I think in SW- White Heron, BM-Dove white, Hague Blue- too much teal for me- , BM- Neutral Beige,
I need help, small house, flat roof? Any ideas
💚💚💚
Struggling to find colour ideas that aren't the typical mens bedroom types. Am not into blue, especially the light and pale type, I find them cold and hard. I find all grey shades too hard as well, and black is too depressing and dark for a bedroom. My current colour is a shade of lilac. This is far from a typical mans colour, but I want to change it up completely. I like the Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen styles, with traditional but want a mix of contemporary too. My bedroom furniture is dark antique woods, which I must admit make my bedroom appear smaller, but I love furniture like that. Am getting greens (not pastels or dull sages etc). Am not a white type (mothers keeness for white whilst growing up has had a negative effect on me) and so has the boring beige colours. Like the idea of a yellow maybe...even red....have bed covers of red and black flock, but like I said...need a change.
I would have chosen BM Revere Pewter as a go to colour. Never fails IMO.
I bought a house in August and it was completely painted in agreeable gray. It looked dingy, dark and suffocating. It was terrible. I repainted all the main areas dove wing and it really transformed it. For the bedrooms, I have Sherman Williams sea salt and I couldn’t get away from using agreeable gray which I wish I did take another color. Now I’m left with the master bedroom and laundry room and I’m definitely leaning to an off-white.
SW Greek Villa is gorgeous, I painted kitchen walls and upper cabinets with it, the lower cabinets are wood tone, the kitchen has south and west facing windows. I love the overall look.
Swiss coffee...makes me wanna wash the walls ALL the time
All these colors look exactly the same as each other!!!!
It's because you are a man and women are crazy. Trust me, I deal with this every day. You have no idea. If you ever wonder what your wife is spending all that money on, she's at my store buying 30 color testers because this one is a little too this or a little too that.
Gray is also silver
Agreeable gray...sorry not sorry... I agree. Lol
