Just watched this hike and saw you mention and film Morgenroth Lake. I went to grade school with a Tim Morgenroth in Seattle in the 60's. The lake was named after his grandfather way back in the 1920's when he was mapping the area for the park service. So cool to see it in your video.
So happy to see you with your niece, especially in bear country, she's more comfortable on camera then in the past, she's looking good. Tell her we love to see you two out there together. Great video, thanks as always..
The Olympics are amazing to hike into. I live near the southern end of the park and I never get tired of the hikes. Have a great time and I enjoy those videos and photos.
Absolutely stunning I can't believe she's your niece you don't look that old you're looking great some of those Meadows look like paintings and you're right too much Beauty for a one-day hike you make a lot of good decisions on your hiking I can tell you're experienced at it
Hello Catherine, Magnanimous! There are decades between the use of that word, but it has found a use here. Thank you for lifting me to the Olympics with you. I will share a short story of my first hike in Alaska some years ago... My Girlfriend and I arrived in Sitka in March for the first time and she began her new job as a trauma nurse for the local indian health services hospital. I am a carpenter and had to find work too. Well, our first weekend came and we decided to take a hike up to "Thimbleberry Lake", such a nice name it had to be a good place to hike up to. I had worked the day before baking and cooking for our hike... Southern fried chicken, biscuits, honey butter, brownies... the works. I packed a back pack with fishing gear, all the food and camera stuff. Saturday morning we drove a short way out of town and pulled over at the trail head. We climbed the steep path to a beautiful lake half covered in the previous winters ice. I had brought my fishing rod, and was so happy after crossing country all the way from North Carolina to Alaska, to be fishing in a high country lake ... we enjoyed the views, I enjoyed trying to catch something and eventually looked down to see what kind of tracks were in the mud around the lake... Brown Bear Tracks. Hungry , grumpy, huge Alaskan brown bears had been there so recently, the water in the tracks was still murky! I was standing there, with a backpack full of biscuits, honey butter and fried chicken! Catherine, the tracks were so big, I could put both of my size 12 boots in one track! We had our picknick in the car! Live and learn.... I love your adventures as you so nicely tell them. Smiling, George.
@@CatherineGregoryAdventures You are welcome Catherine, Perhaps one day, we will hear each others stories across a campfire . Its a wonderful life and such nice things are possible. Either way, know that I enjoy your stories too. Smiling, George.
Hi Catherine & Christine: Enjoyed hiking along vicariously on your backpacking adventure to 7 Lakes Basin Loop. Marvelous scenery, amazing footage of the mountain goats, Mule-tail deer, etc. I've lived in Seattle, WA almost 40 years, hiked and camped Rialto Beach, Cascades, Mt Rainier, Pasayten-Okanogan Wilderness Trail via llama packing. My favorite is Rialto Beach on the Olympic coast. Large silver driftwood, cobblestones, seastacks, Douglas fir, various wildlife. I'd highly recommended it. I've enjoyed your other adventures (just discovered you last night). I look forward to many more. Jenny :-)
Glad I found this video, as we have a panoramic view of the Olympics from our back yard. You went places we were not able to go, other than taking a flight over a few years back. Very impressive & beautiful. Love the scenery & wildlife of course. ♥
My 7 yr old Granddaughter is visiting us in CT this month and she was born in Washington (her dad is in the Army and they relocated to North Carolina when she was a baby). After seeing the video and squealing at the Mountain Goats, I had to promise to take her hiking there! Beautiful video!
So cool that you could hike with your niece. I find this hard to say, but this is one of my favorite videos so far. I’ve liked them all, but the huge trees and foliage are just so beautiful. Living though your lens. Thank you.
Doing this same loop with my wife in a week, although our trip is a bit more ambitious with a strait through one day to lunch lake and a four night stay in the basin. Beautiful area, last year I did a through trip from boulder hot springs to Appleton pass, Appleton to lunch lake, lunch lake to happy four and finished out through to the hoh station. That was a butt kicker. The seven lakes loop is a chill, beautiful trip. Thanks for the trip report.
Beautiful. Grew up in Seattle area although never hiked much.....Snoqualmie Falls and other more readily accessible stuff. Loved the Islands and Puget Sound area and spent a fair amount of my time as a child on a couple of them. Dearly miss the area. TY for taking us along.
Wow. The shot with the goats is absolutely amazing. To think that I used to chase them around with with a rifle. I hope that there is a place setting for redemption in middle age
I hiked here about 7 years ago with my Nephew. We stayed up above Round Lake near Lunch Lake also. Also camped a Heart and Deer Lake. We hiked opposite direction from you. Deer Lake, Lunch Lake and Heart Lake. We hiked to all the lakes in the basin. We watched a Bear down in the basin also.

Happy Birthday Cat Ballou!!!!! Nice to see your niece and also that she was with you on your birthday 🎂. I played golf yesterday and it was 🔥hot!!! Fairways were steaming hot lol. So for me to get up and see this refreshing hike in the cooler weather with rain just revived me somehow. Loved every bit of the video and I love the shorter hikes so you have time to enjoy yourself and new locations. When I saw that it was going to be a 3 day adventure I purposely made the Tj's instant coffee to drink while watching....it was a 2 cup video lol. Thanks Again.
I did some camping near Ho River and short hikes when I visited Olympic, the moss on the trees creates a sensation like no other, as you said enchanting. Really enjoyed this I know you loved having your niece to hike with. Love the easy trail days with excellent camps! And Happy Birthday to you.
Wow , it rains in the Olympics. Good to see you exploring in my neck of the woods. I have lived in WA. all my life and I have never backpacked in the Olympics. I do all my adventures in the Cascades.

Hi Cat, hi Christine👋 wow, you two took in the most breathtaking views😍. HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY Cat! Amazing, the greenery, the lakes, the rivers and the wild life, just beautiful!
This video brings back memories for me. I've hiked into the Olympics a number of times going in from the west, north and the east, including a climb of Mt Olympus and Mt. Anderson. They spent an hour walking around my camp site, That was really cool. The Olympic Mountains are really spectacular. Thanks for the video.

Ah... the skeeters! I did that loop a few years ago, staying my first night at Heart Lake. When I first walked into sight of the lake, I spotted two campers running fast across the hillside above the lake where the campsites are located. It turned out that they were sprinting back to their tents to escape the hordes of mosquitoes. I soon entered 'the cloud myself - unbelievable, even worse than those in the Beartooth or Yellowstone in mid-summer. I think that the most undesirable job in the National Park Service must fall to those poor souls that are tasked with carrying out the 'pyramids of doom', aka the boxes that serve as toilets at Heart Lake. I'd have to be paid an awful lot of sunsets to make up for doing that task :D

Great job of capturing the majesty of the park! Beautiful video and stills that are sure to inspire those viewing to strongly desire to experience the wonder themselves... Thanks for sharing. As well, kudos to your niece. :)
Thank you so much Coach! Hope you are doing well.
I can totally relate not having a better place to spend your bday than in the wilderness. And I'm a June baby also! Makes sense lol. June 1st that is. Happy Bday. Can't wait to see more adventures
Thank you John!
You ladies are amazing! I love this video.

Thank you both for taking me along this virtual journey in my "back yard". Excellent content and editing. A+
