Super impressed by Channing. Her spirit and refusal to let herself be limited by physical challenges gave me an appreciation and respect for her adaptability overcoming disability. Absolutely love her rig and the way she also uses a trike to get on trails! I'm not surprised that you two connected and maintained contact since the surfing program! Also glad you got the new truck break-in advice and are easing into towing; that should prolong the trans/engine life and hopefully delay any issues for years.

❤ GR8 VID ❤ LOVED IT ❤ I've blown by Alabama Hills hundreds of times but never stopped to enjoy that spot. I must stop one of these times while I'm strolling slowly north up the eastern Sierras. I'm usually strolling slowly up coast hwy from San Diego to Seattle because I love watching surfers, remembering the days I used to surf everyday myself. I loved this video especially since this past year it became too difficult to walk myself. I'm 73 and slowly over the past 3 or 4 years I lost the strength in my leg muscles. I've fabricated 5 electric eBikes over the years so I could zip around campsites & trails but recently switched to an electric power wheel chair .. so this video with your caravan'ing buddy sort of hit home. Us VanLife peeps are used to customizing our rigs & life so we can travel & enjoy the freedom & independence of living on the open road ❤ Loved this video ❤

Thank you for sharing info about the new truck break-in period. I've never heard of that and might have made a bad mistake if I'd not learned about it. Dealers no longer tell us what we really need to know, do they?
I love that you had formative experiences in the Eastern Sierra. Same here. We drove over Tioga Pass to Mammoth in 2006 and were gobsmacked. Instant love at the hugeness, the quietude. The steepness.
Mmmm... tacos... I will have to go camping there sometime. I lived in Tehachapi for about a year when I was a boy. Wasn't really mobile at the time, so exploring was limited. Then I moved to Colorado which changed the whole direction of my life.

I was hoping you’d take your maiden voyage in your new truck in the Alabama hills. It’s such a beautiful place! I love the sierras dusted in snow. Great thing about the Alabama hills is if it gets really icky, you can enjoy lone pine as well as the natural beauty. I have a friend who loves outdoors. He and his wife hit the trails whenever they can. He has spina bifida and since he got the free wheel on his chair he goes everywhere that is possible to go in it. It’s great to see how a little bit of technology and ingenuity can make so many things accessible snd available to people of all abilities. I have a friend who is now in her 70s who was until recently an avid surfer and skier. She was born with CP but she says on the snow and the water she feels she can move seamlessly. It’s just the regular ground that is troublesome for her. Thanks for introducing us to your friend. Glad you had a great time breaking in your new truck. Look forward to upcoming adventures.

I was more adventurous then, but felt used my age as an excuse. Years ago, while supervising a Therapy Gym I worked with our PTs, OTs and RTs assisting them with physically challenged kids. It was the most rewarding experience of my life. Seeing these kids have great fun was incredible. Summer camp in Kerrville, Texas, was the best vacation I've ever had.

The shells are great, they just take a long time for delivery...

Wow! I like that truck tent although it looks a bit challenging to put up. I never owned a truck and mainly did car camping in tents with my Toyota Tercel hatchback years ago. Your campsite is lovely with its sculptural rock formations and snow-covered mountains with the lenticular clouds overhead. Channing's camper is like glamping! I love the Christmas tree and lights. That's wonderful how she was introduced to surfing through the Life Goes On Surfing event where she met a lot of other cool people in WC's. Awesome that, instead of living vicariously through watching your adventures on RUclips, that she started to go camping, paddling, surfing, and enjoying nature firsthand by herself. Her travel stickers on the side of her camper attests to all of the places she's visited so far. Her tacos looked mighty tasty and made my mouth water! Happy Solstice and New Year to you both! 🌞🎇✨🎉

Awesome way to break in the new truck. It's great that you are involved with a group like Life Rolls On. And you're right. When you are around these people for a bit you have to take a second to thank the good Lord for your health and well being. We often did the same thing in the sport of Skydiving. We have a similar body style 2500HD to your old one it’s a 2007. We bought a similar truck tent several years back for it and we still love it when the truck camper isn’t on. I’m 6’2” and can pretty much stand up in ours. We also added the fitted air mattress. Anyways…Congrats on your new setup!

I'm glad you found out about the break-in period for your new truck. I would suggest also reading the owners manual front to back. There is lots of information and probably some "Easter Eggs" in there. Also, if you think you'll be keeping this truck for the long haul think about buying the official GM Service Manuals. Even if you don't intend to do any of your own work you'll find valuable trouble shooting information that may save some service bills and will almost certainly save you from a mechanic throwing parts at a repair.

A very inspiring video. I camp in a Kodiak canvas truck tent. Looks like a Conestoga wagon set up. It has steel poles. is waterproof and can handle a good snow load. It can be a pain to set up the first few times till you figure it out. Very tall and roomy. I'm upgrading this Spring to a shell. Not a typical shell but one the size of a pickup camper. But is just the shell.
“I don’t want to live the rest of my life creating debt, then pay the debt, then die.” Wow. Inspiration to not over stress and just go live. Go do the things that really matter. Thank you.

Truck tents are great! Just where I live, you don’t go out camping if the weather looks the least bit sketchy. Rain flies help, but the wind is a different story. Enjoy!

Channing is awesome! Glad she joined you on this shakedown camping adventure. I tried a truck bed tent once but discovered that you really can't easily leave your campsite in your vehicle without breaking down the tent and then setting it all back up again when you get back. That was a deal breaker for me as we like to explore the areas we camp at. It will be fun what you end up with for a camper. I'll stay tuned. :)

We have a similar body style 2500HD to your old one it’s a 2007. We bought a similar truck tent several years back for it and we still love it when the truck camper isn’t on. I’m 6’2” and can pretty much stand up in ours. We also added the fitted air mattress. Anyways…Congrats on your new setup!

I'm glad you found out about the break-in period for your new truck. I would suggest also reading the owners manual front to back. There is lots of information and probably some "Easter Eggs" in there. Also, if you think you'll be keeping this truck for the long haul think about buying the official GM Service Manuals. Even if you don't intend to do any of your own work you'll find valuable trouble shooting information that may save some service bills and will almost certainly save you from a mechanic throwing parts at a repair.

A very inspiring video. I camp in a Kodiak canvas truck tent. Looks like a Conestoga wagon set up. It has steel poles. is waterproof and can handle a good snow load. It can be a pain to set up the first few times till you figure it out. Very tall and roomy. I'm upgrading this Spring to a shell. Not a typical shell but one the size of a pickup camper. But is just the shell.

Yeah, the scenery bought me to tears, literally! I’ll probably have a big cry when I actual get to see some of this gorgeous country when I start my vanlife, hopefully in March…your friend is truly amazing and the life of adventure she’s living!! Happy New Year!!
Truck tents are great! Just where I live, you don’t go out camping if the weather looks the least bit sketchy. Rain flies help, but the wind is a different story. Enjoy!
Drive it like your going to use it. Just make sure you do the oil changes more often then recommended first few times.

Channing is awesome! Glad she joined you on this shakedown camping adventure. I tried a truck bed tent once but discovered that you really can't easily leave your campsite in your vehicle without breaking down the tent and then setting it all back up again when you get back. That was a deal breaker for me as we like to explore the areas we camp at. It will be fun what you end up with for a camper. I'll stay tuned. :)
